I was amazed when I went to Amsterdam a few weeks back. My wife thought I was nuts because I was so curious about this underground bike park, I just had to go in and get a photo lol 😂
The worst part of driving in an American city is finding parking. What the Dutch have constructed here is simply brilliant. It's close to one's destination, it's cheap, quick and easy. Love it. We need these in America.
I love the American people but unfortunately the bureaucrats have made the country dysfunctional... Infrastructure for cycling is useless so no one cycles...
@@alexmorgan3435 check his video about how we started all this. Once upon a time (1950s-1970s) there were cars everywhere. Then we did a very simple thing: we started to say no the the car. I once visited Indonesia and was in Jakarta as well. Beautiful country but I wouldn't risk my lungs and general health by cycling through Jakarta........
Parked here a few times, very handy spot and I thought it would take more time but it actually doesn't because before I'd be looking for a place where I could use my chain to secure my bike. Those spots weren't always easy to find.
Great, but I really hope they will make parking lots that you can drive in and out of. I have trouble pushing my bike up (I know, it isn't that hard, but I have a chronic disease) and I don't want to have to dismount just to go down a bit, we do it for tunnels etc. It makes no sense to make needlessly harder to get in and out of a parking lot.
You can cycle straight by constantly moving your weight back and forth, in order to balance the combination of bike & rider. We are in fact wobbling a bit to maintain balance. This gutter is so narrow and straight, that it leaves no room to wobble. You're bound to fall on such a long and steep stretch, as you can see in these kinds of tv-programs: Fiets 'm d'r in: ua-cam.com/video/Eghg7d4EV1M/v-deo.html and do watch the replay! He's got 30 cm / 1 foot to go straight, instead of a 7,5 cm / 3 inch gutter.
"This is the first underground bicycle parking garage" In Doetinchem we have one operated the same way. Only a bit more expensive. And I think there are more underground bicycle parking garages.
There are dozens of such underground bicycle parking garages near the railway stations mostly. But you left out an important addition "in the city centre of Amsterdam". This is the first completely separate underground parking garage not attached to a station or in the basement of a building (such as the city library). This is a completely separate facility just for parking bicycles. Such a facility is also under construction under Leidseplein now.
Eugene Balfour I totally agree. My point is that we can’t even get the government to recognize cycling as a mode of transportation therefore no infrastructure.

Nope, when there are enough cyclists, the street or square gets clogged up with parked bicycles. When you arrive at such a sea of parked bikes, it costs time to find a spot where you can chain your bike to street furniture. WIth the parking garage, you know where to go, don't have to think or search, so you save time, in other words: it's more convenient than the old situation. Pedestrians (like you when you've parked your bike) now have space to wander around, and not be afraid of bumping into a bicycle and flipping whole rows of bikes onto the ground.

Next time in NL visit the Dutch bicycle-city Utrecht: with over 350,000 inhabitants, a no noisy city center: ua-cam.com/video/QNmI_HBY6AY/v-deo.html

This city is a marvel.
We can only dream of something like this in the UK. It would never happen.
There's a few key-fob protected bike stores in Waltham Forest, London, but they're a very rare thing elsewhere
Don't worry, there's loads of red, blue and green paint, so we can make do with more narrow cycle lanes next to speeding traffic! 😃

Does it get congested at peak hours? Considering the bikes need to be tagged manually?
In Haarlem (20km from Amsterdam) there's an underground parking for 5500 bicycles, without any tagging. Just park the bike, lock it and go.
increible. no tengo mas palabras
Heel mooi en bedankt voor de informatie! De opening van deze stalling was mij ontgaan.
Why do they allow mopeds to travel with bicycles?
Great showcase.
What if someone is handicapped and can ride a bike but cannot get up and down the stairs
You obviously didn't watch the video he explained that disabled people can still park in the street wakey-wakey😋

Why isn't anyone cycling down the stairs?
You try it first and when you don't get hurt than maybe others will cycle down the stairs.

Where I live in the US we are trying to get them to paint bike lanes on roads to no avail. 😫
Paint is not enough. Someone here was recently killed by a driver who drove their car through the bike line

That would defeat the convenience of a bicycle.
