I’m not gonna lie I use to be one of these right wing, prepper type people. And honestly I really feel sorry for these people! This isn’t just a hobby, this turns into a whole lifestyle that robs you from living in and enjoying the present moment.
I was radicalized through UA-cam. It started off with watching sermons, then to prophecy interpretations, and because I was always really into “gear” (military surplus stuff) I got into the whole prepping lifestyle.
This whole thing is a racket that starts off preying on people’s genuine beliefs and fears and fleeces them out of all of their money! And when you look at the actual theology it’s completely inconsistent (if you’re a believer and going to be raptured before all these events take place, then why are you worried about it?)
Thank God I was also brought back to reality by UA-cam as well! I would watch a lot of really heavy and emotionally/mentally taxing video. And one day a “last week tonight” video showed up in my feed and I laughed my ass off! It was a nice change from everything that I was watching.
The thing that totally changed my view on everything was the emergence of Qanon.
When he posted that Hillary Clinton was about to be arrested in October of 2017 and it didn’t happen I knew it was BS. (I never discounted anything that had a specific date right away until the date had passed) I was also so saturated in this theory and that theory, and I was going through some personal struggles too at the time that I just had to walk away from it all to catch my breath.
I became totally apolitical and honestly didn’t care what happened. My marriage was falling apart and I was distracting myself with work and other activities that kept me out of the house so I didn’t have to deal with the fact that my life was not how I envisioned it would be.
Then Covid hit and my dad died in the first wave of it in April of 2020. It through me in a tailspin that I’m only starting to pull myself out of.
I’m still a Christian although I don’t know how well I’d be welcomed into the community. And I still have family members that are completely wrapped up in all this nonsense. I wish I was able to reach them but after feeling like I’ve been dooped I have no patience for the lies anymore. I’m also seen as a traitor and that I’m destined for hell.
But I know that it is possible to come out of this worldview. To those of you who have family wrapped up in this belief I wish I could give you some pointers, but I can’t. All that I can say is that there is hope.
If you’ve read this far, thank you for listening to me and my ramblings. I guess I just wanted someone to talk to…And I hope that I was able to at least provide a bit of hope.

I still have yet to see any so truly corrupt, fear spreading, judgemental, and money loving as the American super church and anything similar. The conspiracy is that they are slowly creating a genocidal army of true believers to peel the skin off of America and devour her soul. The ideas of religious freedom, judicial equality that represents unilaterally, and politically united in not neccesarily everything, but important issues like freedom of speech and appreciation for the fact that we ARE ALL AMERICANS and that it is our country as long as we all hold it equally. Maybe sprinkle in some healthy transparency of our politicians deliberately destroying any and all bipartisanship. And maybe these millionaires in the Senate ( the VAST MAJORITY) kinda seem like they are actually only out for personal power and ability to skirt any true responsibility.
Its all a conspiracy theory because anyone that isnt drinking their koolaid of choice (Ultra conservative ideals that dont REALLY look like freedom or Liberal inclusivity that really IS about only making it better for the people that will for sure vote for them) you should be able to see this strategy of divide and conquer by racial and class divides. Convince both sides that we are SO CLOSE TO ABSOLUTE ANARCHY AND TOTAL DESTRUCTION and you can watch them literally put themselves into a tyrannical system. They will both say its the other. And they will both be right. In the meantime the ones that want more power will get away scott free.

This is fabulous! I have an ex-husband who was losing his mind and after we divorced in 1997 he started prepping for the end of the world to be in Y2K-year 2000. He scared our teenage children so badly. He had a plan to take them out to his mother's 5 acres and live in the woods. He buried water, rice, beans, set out various motion cameras in and outside his house....he is still crazy.

This is a decidedly upper middle class phenomenon, in most cases. Hard to be a prepper if you live in an apartment with no disposable income. The prepper anxiety is very tied up with a sense of economic tension... if the social order falls you want insurance that you'll get to keep the stuff you've "won" under capitalism.
Don't forget the outcast loners of *all classes* : the disenfranchised souls with barely any real friends. Societal dystopia is their utopia, as they believe that in 'Cataclysm World' people will be forced to hang out with them to trade petrol or learn tactical knots - and in this dream world they will get their long-denied relevance and comeuppance.
Preppers now days are smart. Our economy cant stand after the trillions they printed out, they're want it to fail so they can push socialism. Any world in which these people re-emerge after a cataclysmic event would be unlike anything a human in the year 2021 would be prepared to live in, and few except the hardest would be able to accommodate. The trappings of a McMansion bunker will be the last vestige of a world long gone.

My prep is simply self reliance, I learn science and learn wilderness camp techniques, scrap technology and flora. Nothing too crazy, if there's no surface then there's gonna be no life anyway.
But on the other hand a bunker just sounds like a savage man cave.
Honestly, the idea of having an underground bunker just for the sake of having one is kind of appealing. It would probably be an amazing place to have a party.
Prepping is not necessarily bad... my parents and grandparents were raised in the depression era... we lived on a few acres with a huge garden, apple trees, pear trees, cherry trees, etc. My father even hunted and fished. I was very fortunate to grow up in a very stable middle class life, but with the foundation of that mindset of when your kids are hungry, you need to do whatever you need to do to feed them, save for a rainy day, etc. The greatest benefit of this mindset is that I was raised eating good food and passing on the importance of healthy eating to the next generation.
Sure but these paranoid morons are building underground bunkers and stocking up on guns and dogfood. Imagine if they put this much energy into something that really matters, such as fighting global warming

I think of this as The Time of Reckoning. It's when humanity is finally forced to acknowledge all the sh*t we've mindlessly done to the world and ourselves when it comes to slap us in our collective faces. How we ultimately deal with it is anyone's guess. I get the feeling even prepping might not be enough for some.

Prepping for bad scenarios is not such a ridiculous ideas. After my family lost power for 2 weeks from a hurricane we bought a generator and started keeping general long term supplies and it has come in handy many times
So you obviously don't even need the generator or the supplies, do you? I mean, you didn't have them when the hurricane struck and you survived.

Honestly, I don't fear being unprepared in the event of a global collapse nearly as much as being overprepared in the event of one never occurring.
"Why be prepared?" has got to be the absolute worst thinking ever, yet so reflective of society today.

If doctors can refuse the unvaccinated, then emergency service workers should be able to de-prioritize the unprepared.

Words cannot express how happy I am that Vice brought Vic on board to bless the world with his masterpieces. This one did not disappoint.
I can tell you I was in the hurricane on Long Island and it was like the apocalypse. We didn’t have power for 16 days. People walked around in blankets with gas cans. One guy was almost shot by police as he was cheating at the gas station and filling up barrels of gas and moving them to a truck next door. The cop made him bring them all back except for two and people siphoned gas out of them. He lost the money. The cop wasn’t joking he had his gun drawn at one point. It was really bad. We lived out of my SUV the entire two weeks for heat and recharging our devices. I was already on vacation from work, a hospital, but we’d go there to shower and get a meal here and there. Our refrigerator became a science experiment lol. 7/11 was still open and got their atm working so we ate mainly at 7/11 and the hospital for the two weeks. I learned to prep after this. I got a generator. I got prepped. I said it would never happen again.

Do you guys not remember Hurricane Katrina where people ran out of food within 3 days and were looting basic supplies? Those unprepared people sure were "fixing" the problem. I guess the government stockpiling resources in anticipation of disaster (ie: prepping) was them fleeing the problem too.
prepping is seeing the problem as a solution that puts the prepper on top. when you talk to these people, there is a strong current of being held down by lesser people, and the belief that some kind of mass event will remove the things that limit them. they see the end of civilization as an opportunity, and the problems as things that bring them close to their dream. they have zero interest in 'fixing' them.

Real prepping takes time. It takes a lot of effort, not just a $500 'end of the world food bucket' kit from ben shapiro. Real preppers and homesteaders are out there learning how to live sustainably off the land and off the grid. People like Joe and Jamie from Guildbrook farm (though I believe their new house is on grid).
Being scared to die is no way to live.

History would disagree with you. During Katrina, there were a lot of people looting food and water while waiting for FEMA's response. I'd bet dollars to donuts the ones looting stores were not the preppers who already had supplies on hand.
