  • A large part of our caseload at the centre is made up of pets suffering from Osteoarthritis. Arthritis is a painful condition and unfortunately can have a huge impact on a dogs quality of life.
This video gives an insight into Joby’s initial physiotherapy consult along with my functional assessment of his movement patterns. I also point out some early signs of arthritis which you can look for in your dog and I explain the effect they have on Jobys muscle system and mobility. If you see these signs, please raise them with your vet as its better to be more proactive than reactive with this condition.
Finally we look at some exercises to preserve muscle strength, reduce pain and maintain mobility.
I hope you find it helpful!

Thanks for the video..I found that interesting and helpful. I found it easy to see this dog’s issues (on a video) and then could use this to compare with my labradors! Those exercises look fab!

This looks so good! I wish I could afford to do this for my dogs. Or myself for that matter. I'm going to look into the specialist near me. There's almost no chance that I can swing it, but definitely no chance if I don't try at all.

We totally understand, life is expensive :'( That's why we try and put out as much free information for owners to follow along at home. We have a bunch of info on our instagram too if you wanted to check that out @thedogwellnesscentre

Do you have any videos to help do this type of stuff at home? My dog is only 6 and he already has pretty bad arthritis. He is on glucosamine stage 3 and he is only 6 years old.

Hi there, a good place to start with arthritis care is a good quality joint supplement and a gentle strength building programme to strengthen the muscles around the joint for support. The strength program would be dependant on the dogs condition and you should have your dog checked by a canine physio for a strengthening programme

The title of the video suggested you’d be telling us what to do at home. This isn’t helpful at all.

Understanding the changes in a dogs body as a result of arthritis is an important part of learning how to successfully manage the condition. Also, from 2:48 mins to 3.23 there are examples of exercises to do at home which others have found helpful, hence why I’ve shared them here 🐶🏡

Your intro was not actually what the video ended being about...this was more of an advertisement and didn't help dog owners at home at all, who have been given the usual "take this pill" by their vet as a solution.

Yes I guess it is an advertisement….for what strengthening exercises can do to help manage the condition & how the condition negatively affects a dogs body. I highlight the signs that are often not spoken about in a typical vet exam.
I am not advertising any services or products to sell. Instead using real life cases to help other others on a similar journey with their pet & potentially give them some ideas from afar.
You tube is a new platform for me & I’m still working my way around it trying to help owners & their dogs with what I’ve learned in my professional career ❤️🐾

@@thedogwellnesscentre Sure, but your intro made out that it was going to educate us and not just advertise to us. So do what you say, so we are not left disappointed after investing our time in watching. Life is short, we only have so many minutes to give in a day, to try to help our dogs that are in pain and suffering. That's the point, the video did not meet the expectations of your introduction. Do what you say you are going to do and you won't have unhappy viewers.
