this song is about people who take advantage of you, and about the horrible feeling of being looked down on. metaphorical glimmering houses of gold and silver are fortresses that people build around themselves to appear cooler than you, smarter than you, stronger than you, always too busy to hang out. their houses are shiny as hell but there is usually not that much inside them. this is my first time fully embracing and exploring pop song structure and its sound, stretching my limbs inside of it and finding my favourite positions - in the way I wrote the lyrics, in the way I sing, in the way I play the harp and how I arranged the string section. Joel and I recorded my harp in many places and put various things inside it and on top of it to make it sound even more sparkly, and I asked Joe to mix it with a focus on shimmering high ends. I hope you like it and, more importantly, I hope it brings you as much solace as it brought me.
