hello sir Lee. i'm Apollo and i would love to do those skills that you are performing. but the problem is i'm aleady 56 years old and have lost most of that "spark" in me to do those things decades sgo.😢 do you think there is still hope for me to do those skills at my age?😢
I'm not an acrobat or gymnast but I am a martial artist. I thought I might learn some new methods to improve mobility watching this video. I'm not disappointed or complaining that I didn't actually learn much of anything new but instead I'm pleased to see confirmation that I've been on the right track as I've already implemented most everything you've recommended here that can be done at home which is where I do the majority of my training. You're recommendations are all on point, for me I never focus on strength/weight training, I focus on speed, agility & mobility. Powerful strikes are not generated by big strong muscles they are generated by the kinetic chain. What it all boils down to IMHO is this: What good is power if you aren't fast enough to be the one to connect first? Focus on developing speed, balance & proper form and power will come as a biproduct of this, you never need to "muscle" a strike and doing so will only hold back your potential. For years now I have only used bodyweight, kettlebell & lighter weighted dumbbell exercises where I focus on moving through the entire range of motion possible to develop power in positions you normally wouldn't if you were focused on heavier weights in a strict range of motion and would also damage your joints if the weight was too heavy (basically just taking some fixed weight dumbbells and swinging them around like a madman, twisting my wrists, extending to different lengths etc. increase weight as you are able but only to a point). I'm 46 years old and hitting harder and faster than I ever have since implementing a lot of these strategies over the years. Good video, great recommendations I can attest to that! Gymnasts & acrobats in general are the most functionally strong people on the planet, there's a reason for that!
i was a martial artist and am a coach now! you said it better than i would! and mr Weiland decompose it and made it accessible to both beginners and confirmed athletes! Thanks
Gymnasts, acrobats and calisthenic athletes are definitely functionally strong....but it depends on the function! I am a martial artist too, and it is mind boggling to me how some of the above athletes are completely powerless in a ring. Not putting down, just observing. It depends on the function/world of their required strength.
The shoulder dowl stretches are really nice. My 81 year old aikido sensi introduced me. Fantastic for upper body mobility. We used full staffs though, a nice long closet rod is pretty perfect.
Thanks so much, I do feel inspired. I'm 70 years old and have been so stiff for decades. I don't want to join the wheelchair, cane parade. I will try to do basic squats and simple MOVE. Thanks so much.
It's cool and fun to see that I progressed naturally to doing these exercises daily without watching any videos but listening to my body and experimenting. Becoming older drops the mentality that I just want to look buff but gain the mentality that I want to be flexible, move well, and most importantly, be f*cking pain-free! Thanks for the videos!
Just found this video and I'm inspired!! I do monthly challenges in my gym and I'm adding your five stretches to my daily mobility routine to increase strength and work up to some of those amazing tricks you were doing!
I noticed when I did squat variations,I decided to go into the frog and I felt way more balanced, thanks for the knowledge,,I am gonna start using all this for my warmups like you said.
@@LeeWeilandhey hello mr. Lee. Ok I understand what you mean, but where do we get those correct instructions then. Do you provide online, so I can train in the comfort of my home, or can I find a class here in Belgium too ? And how this is called this type of sports ? Is it okay for a 56 years old lady too or just a joke ? I am in good shape, I mean lean, not very flexible, and a bit of a health freak 😊 But strenght and flexability is what I would like to build up in a responsible way. I thought about yoga, but there are such many types of yoga disciplines, but not so much good classes here, and I do not want to waist my time. Could you suggest ? Anyway thank you for the videos, they are encouraging and that's a start 😉🤗
I go in for knee surgery on the 16th to have my ACL rebuilt. They say with confidence that I'll have 100% use of it by this time next year, I look forward to incorporating all of this as I heal and restart my martial arts and bodybuilding journey
@lootom2673when i tore mine it was all about range of motion. The hardest thing is sitting on the floor and getting your leg all the way straight. The Navy was considered aggressive at the time we were doing physical therapy the day after surgery with heel slides. Now it's way more aggressive, we've seen NFL players back on the field in 6 months! 😮 they told me no running for 6 months.
Attack your PT and stretch on your own. No explosive movements. Get your range of motion back and you'll be fine. The stronger your leg muscles are before you get surgery, the better you'll come out of it
I had to sit out due to shoulder bursitis for six months but I’m very close to getting back into the gym and outside doing parkour again I’ve been doing parkour thirteen years and this video is awesome for me
So empowering , healing , motivating…. Beautiful mission and content Lee ! Thanks for all ! I am fortunate to be able to equip about a 2500 square foot functional space , where can I get a list of the flooring / boxes / bars , best functional devices to perform your functional activities?
First time watching and immediately left a sub! Your energy is amazing and it motivates me to get these exercises in every day from now on - and hopefully see some progress in the next 6-12 months 🤙
@@LeeWeilandwhat sort of coaching should I be looking at to improve in these areas? My strength is good but man I am tight. Adult gymnastics? Circus coaches? What’s the skill set of the teacher?

Awesome video, really enjoyed how you were demoing and explaining. Going to look to incorporate these daily rather than occasionally as I have been, seems like that frequency might be what I need.
Very informative video! I admire your performance and approach. I have a question: If I have no bar or hanging rings available, is there an alternative move? Thanks!
Bear in mind that more mobility = less stability. Stability is the bed rock of force production. Looks great for the general public who think it's cool, but why would athletes need hyper-mobility and wall jumps? Also, the angle of your knees when landing after some of your jumps shows valgus. (I've seen this in various of your videos) Why is this a good thing repeated over time?
This is really a different look at fitness. Somewhat interesting. What puzzles me is how he just casually acts as though someone should easily be able to jump right into this. Where is this being done?
Is this SAFE FOR SENIORS past age 50 yrs. Old ??? What if we have osteoarthritis in our spines. We need more flexibility to create better balance .😃😃😃😃😃🤩🤩🙂🤩🤩🤩😁😁😁😁❤❤❤

Comment continued - …I know the body is an amazing machine and capable of healing beyond what modern medicine says is possible. I’ve fired doctors and sought out alternative medicine which has gotten me this far. If I had listened to conventional wisdom, I would be on permanent disability and heavy duty pain meds right now. While I have come a long way, it seems I have reached my rehab limits and am still doing some daily pain management and chiropractic for continuing issues. The doctors I have kept working with have warned me against putting any more strain on my back hips, shoulders. And if I hadn’t mentioned it, I am 53. Hello Lee. I really enjoy watching your videos and would love to be able to even have a fraction of the strength and mobility of the people I see you working with. I’m just not sure that I am able to do much of any of even the basics you recommend, due to past injuries and limitations. I have bad shoulders from years of construction work. (Small tears of the labrum and a grade 2 collar bone separation) I also have had a major L5,S1 disc failure, which led to a fusion and S.I. joint damage. I do engage in light strength training, some stretching and keep active with mountain biking and my job, in which I put on a mile or so daily. Even with all that, it seems I will be limited in abilities and having to do pain management for the rest of my days Have you worked with many people with these types of injuries
If you look at their website, there is a gentleman (Matt) in his late forties that had a broken back and multiple other back injuries that has been through their program, so I'm guessing that they do! I have no experience with them, to add, I was just looking into it!

Yes, that's what I came here to say! I enjoyed the conversational, interview style approach, it was good.
