    Three years ago I won a Fluval U4. I loved the workings of it and I made my own filter trays for it.
    I used it initially to help feed Flower Shrimp. Since then I have purchased a number of them, for general filtration. I really like the simplicity and I like to have current in my tanks, for the health of the fish and the plants. I find it creates a nice interactive environment Ben. Thank you! Great video!!!

    Looks like a brand new Xpertmatic 35 watt just showed up on Amazon. I haven't seen that one before. It has been redesigned and looks promising. I use the one you have in my 55 gallon community along with a cannister filter and it does a wonderful job. I started using Fritz products and Xpertmatic because of you! Appreciate the great advice and videos!

    Interesting timing of this video. I'm currently 3D printing a sponge filter holder to put 2 large sponge filters on the inlet of an FX6 that stacks the sponges kind of like these filters. I'm also going to set it up so it can hook up to a sun sun. I plan to get in touch with you through email once I get it working properly so I can send you one so you can try it out.

      Hey Josh, just make sure that the filament is water proof and safe for the fish or you are not going to like it when things go bad, I have experience with 3D printing parts and just be careful about what filament used, I have made pump holders that work excellent. Thanks for sharing with us. One fishy friend to another.

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart 2 роки тому +1

      What kind of canister? Do you intend to use it for just water polishing or for beneficial bacteria? Truth is that going with all sponges, from coarse to fine (in the direction of the canisters water flow) would be inexpensive and serve as both water polishing and BB.

      @@BenOchart it's an aquatop 500 UV exclusive. And it's running on a 75 gal cichlid tank with 2 of the new hyger double sponge filters that are rated for a 45gal each. And yes I'm using it for beneficial bacteria, and clearer water. I just happened to see a video where a guest was saying that you could buy what looked like an egg crate type filter material in 3 different densities that was better than what you get included when you purchase your canister. I've had fluval and others in the past but bought this one from my local fish store. Although outdated they're really all the same it's what is inside that matters. I've looked on Amazon but there's so much and I didn't see the egg crate looking stuff so thought you would know where to get the best stuff. Also this came with a bunch of useless plastic bio-balls and know there is an orange or Terra cotta composition that I also can't find. Hope you get what I mean. Thanks for answering. Liz

    Dear Ben Hoping you could tell me how to get rid of the very black is hard to get off Algae off the glass My aquariums hate using a razor blade, hard to get to the very bottom Any help you could give me would certainly be appreciated your rainbow Fish looks incredible like no water Love your videos

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart 2 роки тому

      Black algae is the worse. Decor and artificial plants have to be soaked in a 5 gallon bucket with a half cup of bleach in the full bucket of water, then rinsed and scrubbed.
      Sometimes you get lucky and a standard pleco will clean it up for you. The problem is they then get up to 20” long. I just take them back to the fish store.
      As for the glass, a slow careful scrape with a blade is best, staying away from the silicone. Then a scrub with a nonabrasive pad. Phosphate is another area to look into. Check out this article: www.fishzaking.com/blog/tips/how-to-get-rid-of-black-algae-in-a-fish-tank/#:~:text=Check%20Your%20Tap%20Water,-If%20you%20are&text=And%20because%20it%20is%20corrosion,get%20black%20algae%20in%20aquariums.

      @@BenOchart No Marineland is not the company that they used to be now they want do anything for you if you don't have a receipt to prove that you purchased any of there cheap brand products, my problem is all my back stock came from Foster and Smiths that was purchased by Petco, and they closed up the business in a week later, and deleted all customers accounts and, I can't get them to understand that part. So I have thousands of dollars of there pumps filters and other things that are just useless to me but Marineland just doesn't care.

      The two things that it could be (and I’m guessing without seeing the unit) are either the Venturi airline is submerged or the bottom has gotten plugged up.
