It may be doable, but I think there's a total of 6 inches less legroom front & rear combined. I just went out and sat in my 2018 double cab after watching this video. I'm the same height as you and there's room even without pushing the front seat all the way forward. It still baffles me that Toyota would go backwards on things like that.
I own a 07 Double Cab Limited and I absolutely love the truck. I Cannot understand for the life of me why Toyota made the new redesign Tundra smaller in the back seat than the last generation Tundra🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤦🏻♂️
@@ronsteitz4535can’t imagine why someone would buy this with intended use of child seat. That’s what the crew cab is for. The back seat probably not intended to be a daily. Still miles better than what use to pass as backseat in pickup. Lots of cars with pretty useless back seat.
@@fritty9927 that's all true however the prior gen the double cab back seats were usable they lost six inches in the redesign that's the big issue here it got smaller and the price went up
Growing up we had extended cab trucks which were far worse than a double cab tundra and we survived. Next truck I get will be a crewmax because more space is never bad, but until then my double cab gets the job done.
I got to say it is a disaster. This is no more a 5 seat passenger truck. To tell the truth middle back seat was always a joke so that even kids do not wanna seat on that one. But behind the driver seat is a total disaster. Passenger side back seat is pretty bad as well as the front seat passenger has to sit pretty close to the dash in order to make rear passenger to fit in otherwise it will be the same story like with driver's side. This is bad design and everyone must admit it. Would I call it non practical, hell yeah!. I have SR5 double cab 2021 and when I have driver’s seat all the way back, anybody who is not super big up to 245 lbs and 5'11" can seat properly behind the driver, it is enough space actually. In this new gen Tundra nobody can seat behind the driver when his seat is all the way back. And behind the passenger seat it also bad if you have a decent passenger on the front seat. The only practical scenarioI see is just carrying kids on the back seat or very tiny adults. Obviously you can try to fit somehow 5 adults for a short trip from home to local grocery store or restaurant. But for decent trips I would rent some normal car or truck. There are lots of sedans that offer much more space for both front and rear passengers. On more reason to keep and older gen Tundra in your garage. Carry on Toyota!
I myself am impressed that you can seat comfortable in the back seat . Your bigger than the average man so it's not as tight as I thought it would be .
Seems like Toyota could have shortened the depth of the back seats in the Double Cab at least, possibly making the seats at least look a bit more proportional - especially the middle seat. Clearly this would add manufacturing cost, and thus taking the seats out of the crewmax was the move. I think possibly even getting rid of the middle seat or the middle back seat cupholders would have made more sense. It is hard to make sense of the set up, outside of reusability from crewmax interior parts.
The interior packaging of TNGA platforms is the biggest drawback compared to Toyota’s previous platforms. You also see a regression in interior space in other TNGA-F trucks like the new Land Cruiser and Lexus LX. Other TNGA products like the Lexus LS 500 also suffers from a smaller backseat compared to the previous gen LS 460. One of the least affected new platforms is TNGA-K.
Mark, nice vid. One thing i have noticed about new gen…why wont that steering wheel move up more? They really limited the range the steering wheel will move. Its far les than old gen.
Thanks for telling us your height for scale. Too many reviewers fail to say, making me guess how I will fit. Also thanks for bringing the wife to also see what it’s like with a smaller person. The double cab would be doable for me, but I would only snag one if I got a better deal on it.
Nice set up Mark!, nice truck! If I was in charge of the double cab design for the current gen I would’ve made the under seat storage optional/removable to maximize floor space when needed and then went with a thinner seat bottom cushion that folds up into the seat back a little more out of the way. It’s almost like they went with cross country comfort cushion but not the space to go cross country. I would’ve did something more similar to the honda ridgeline. Give me options for that space, make it a Swiss Army knife of half ton trucks. Just my opinion. Great video and review of the back seat 👍.
Well done! You have to admit, though; the pillar less clamshell doors on an F150 super cab, or Titan King Cab make getting cargo in the back easier than small conventional doors.
Not comfortable, but doable. Not functional, but optional. At least people are trying to justify the space. Regrets would be setting in for me on the trade in when i sleep….. js
Yes the back door opening is small. I remember trying to get my 100 lbs German shepherd inn so I can take him to the vet. Let me tell you ...He was not happy. I still don't get why Toyota made the back so small compare to the older generation d/c.
Yikes that looks tight. The under seat storage is nice but that back seat leg room is bad. If four adults are going very far that would be doable but very uncomfortable. It all depends on your needs.
This would work fine for me. Ive had my 21 crewmax for almost three years and have had backseat passengers twice. Im holding out til the 24’s to see what colors will be on them but will likely go double cab
^This. I'm still trying to understand why the CM is so popular even with those who rarely have back seat passengers. If the kids won't fit in the back of the DC, you need to stop taking them to Micky D's drive through.
Man, that's a big no for me. I'm not a big guy by any means, but I wouldn't want to squeeze anyone between the front and back seats. I'll keep my 2007 DC!

I owned a 2005 Tundra Double Cab Limited and the back seat was more spacious than this New Gen👎 Also I had a large Moon Roof and Full Rear Window Up/Down. which is a trade off I won’t give up. Try talking yourself into this crumpled up space. You will save gas as your friends will always be driving their vehicles on W/E trips or evenings out 😀 The New Gen also has limited visibility with lower roofline.👎 I will keep my 2016 Limited with my V8 with TRD Exhaust .👍😀 I will be surprised if you keep this SR5 for a full year. 🤔
I guess you haven’t flown in coach lately. There is much more room in the back of this truck then being crammed along with 200 passengers in a 737 max 200.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q So, Toyota’s goal was to make the back seat more comfortable than a coach airline seat 8:15 ? 😂. Kidding aside, there are a few suggestions here that would have made for a better back seat experience, even if the new platform couldn’t accommodate a larger rear area.
@@Drohead20As a driver I’m not too concerned about passenger comfort in the back. The pax can deal with it or find alternate transport. I’d rather have a longer hood for safety.
This double just completely eliminates possibility of a 5 person family using. It also hurts competitiveness vs fords super cab. That’s why my order is for Crewmax long bed. I’ll need to be a bit pickier with parking but I get the best of both capabilities
Mark I love your channel but total BS on the new DC room. I have owned 2 DC's and its way bigger than the 2022. There is no room on the floor for your feet and very small leg room. It's not even enough room for a dog to get in there on the floor. Biggest reason I haven't got the new Tundra, even my local dealer advised me not to order the DC due to it's size.
Def I can say from what I seen at the dealership the last generation tundra trd pro double cab has way more room don’t know y the didn’t bring it to the new tundra….I’m sure they will change that soon on the new tundra from complaints of the customers….just like the Silverado owners they bitched at GM about how cheap and crappy the interior was. 2019-2022 that’s y they did an interior refresh and was alot better and more luxury with the big screen
so annoying that there is not a flat floor for tools. Toyota messed this up on the tacoma and the tundra. I might just rip out the entire back seat and "storage" area. They should offer a back seat delete
It’s so funny that no matter what you say and show us, so many people find away to be so negative towards the new gen Tundra. People that buy the extended cab, don’t value back seat room. If they did would just buy the crew max and now have the option for a bigger bed. There are so many things that people add to their trucks (not for free) and Toyota has addressed it all. So yes obviously the truck is more expensive than it used to be, but these are all things most people asked for. Current Tundra owners will keep complaining, until they actually own one.

Agreed, that and the pricing will keep me from this new gen
I have the double cab last gen. The back seat works fine for passengers. I am 6 feet tall too.

I still like my 2017 double cab with the capability of up to six people. It has plenty of room in the back seat and all the back seat storage as well.
Not a chance anyone could sit behind your driver's seating position though. This is a fail by Toyota no matter how hard you're trying to justify it.
