What was the Rakhmabai Case of 1884?
Early in 1884, one of India's most influential and publicized trials began. After Rakhmabai refused to stay with her husband, the court gave her two options - to either comply or face imprisonment. Rakhmabai told the court that she would rather go to jail than live with Dadaji.
This case revolves around :
1)age of consent.
2) Restitution of conjugal rights.
Rukhmabai (1864-1955) was the first practising female doctor in colonial India. She was involved in the legal case that contributed to the enactment of the Age of Consent Act, 1891.
