In Citizen Kane (1941), a scene is interrupted with the sudden appearance and loud screech of Answers with Joe Scott's intro. After much speculation from people on its symbolism, Orson Welles admitted that he put it in there to wake up any audience members who might be dozing off.

If you've heard about it on many other channels, I have to think you have very strange tastes. 😳 I agree it was enjoyable, but I understand that UA-cam algorithms are just unsustainable, I wonder if UA-cam has peaked and people will look at other platforms more, because it's really aggravating to have your own worst impulses (and everyone else's) directing entertainment choices and opportunities. When it comes to streaming video, I want someone with better taste to save me from myself!

This part is for both you and Joe... Eminem is known as one of the best rappers of our time and he treats working in the studio as a job. He starts at 9am and by 5pm he's done, no matter what he's in the middle of. He says it helps to keep him from being burnt out, which we could arguably say has helped his creative process. I'd say his approach had definitely worked for him.

I can say that having lived in the Seattle area for 35 years there is basically no worry from anyone. We have been hearing about the "big one" for so long and live next to a active volcano so that it's lost it's punch. We also happen to be a nuke target so really it's hard to be worked up

    • @JB-1138

We live on an active fault line with an active volcano and because we have some major military bases in the area we are a nuclear target. It's all true.

I grew up in Seattle and recently moved to Oklahoma City. I think part of it is the Pacific Northwest doesn't really endure significant weather events regularly. Here you get tornadoes nearby frequently and the spectre of doom is ever present as opposed to hypothetical. In 38 years, outside of the Nisqually earthquake, I never thought about disasters but I now side eye every menacing cloud here

I watched it because you usually have something new to add or a different twist on things. You also do a really complete look into your stories. Personally, I'm more into the science/tech side of things than historical mystery when it comes to individual cases (specially if it involves crimes), but if it's some kind of mystery on a more macro scale, like how X cultural legacy/technology/historical event was mysteriously lost to recorded history or what we know of it in the present doesn't make sense or smth like that, I'd be more curious about it. Doom and gloom videos are appealing as well but that's clear to see.

I live in Bellingham, north of Seattle and most people here have no idea why we even have tsunami sirens, let alone what is going to cause this eventual wave. The mega-thrust fault/subduction zone scares the 💩 out of me. This country and our planet is screwed in lots of ways but this one will be like Katrina but 20 times worse right here at my doorstep... Easily double that if it sets off the San Andreas fault at or near the same time. Ugh.

Great video Joe! Having been raised here in Seattle, it faces many natural risks. However, it is doomed for a different reason. As opposed to natural catastrophes, we are currently experience a cultural one. That's a different conversation though which I will not have on UA-cam.

The mountains around us here in Seattle are so mesmerizing that we’re lured into staying and hoping to buy a million dollar house or two! Lol
Tbh, the doom topic on my mind living in the greater Seattle area is the drug use/homelessness/ black crime rates shooting through the roof- these factors are more likely on the minds of Seattlelites than a volcano.

@Joe Scott, I never comment but always watch; this really got me at 00:03:50. I also have no clue how the popular actors are anymore, we gettin old bud, it happens. But about the convincing yourself of movies being part of work - that's because you have a solid work ethic, and that's also important. Many do not. IMO, to stop working and building and creating is to lose a very important part of yourself. Never stop sir, never stop. (but also yes, hobbies are important too, but they change over time)

That's a bummer about the Somerton video! That is one of my favorites you've done recently! It didn't tank in my heart, Joe!
So as someone who moved away from Washington this past year, I understand that it's quite possible that the Cascadian earthquake might not happen for hundreds of years. But that said, I am happier to be in Arizona where I can ignore a slow death by megadrought rather than a possible huge earthquake followed by a massive lahar flow from Mt. Rainier.

That "brick-breaker" game was in a beautiful, in video and sound game on the Commodore AMIGA, using colored bricks (shiny gold, for example) and ringing bell-like sounds then a brick was destroyed. One of the most easy on the eye and ear games I have ever played.

On the off chance you read this, I like you're history/mystery stuff way more because you're great at it. You have the perfect tone, you don't exaggerate, you know when to joke and when to be sensitive, you don't go for sensationalism and you deliver it in a matter of fact way and you actually present the less exciting but more probable theories on them. Those videos were the reason I subscribed and the ones I go back to and rewatch. Please do more of them.

Joe I love those mystery videos or new technology videos most of all. Everyone leans into worst case scenarios on most channels I watch and it’s a wonderful contrast because it always sparks curiosity instead of dread. Even if world ending scenarios are what get the views please don’t erase the others entirely.

I’m surprised the Somerton Man video didn’t do as well as the others! The bizarre and macabre ones are my favorite and i always assumed everyone else did - especially after your “beheading” video and its crazy popularity. Those videos are what i signed up for - i love the more “big picture” ones for sure but theres a certain charm in your matter-of-fact glib presentation of a subject that isn’t often found in videos on the more macabre topics. They’re my faves for sure.

I spend a lot of time on UA-cam and I'm subscribed to a lot of channels, however the only channel I watch religiously is this one. Mondays, in my life, are Joedays. I always look forward to Mondays. And if Joe posts a video on Thursdays, it's a bonus.
Anyways, when I saw the Somerton Man thumbnail I was like "meh, okay... I'll watch". But it was really interesting. That's the video I'll remember the most from all the videos Joe has posted so far this year. So I guess sometimes we don't know what we might find interesting or not. That's what so great about this channel. It's such a wide spectrum of topics to get you hooked on new ideas, technologies or history. You don't learn new things by watching the same themes over and over.
So Joe, please just continue to post videos on anything you find interesting.

I grew up on Vancouver Island and as a child was constantly told about "The big one". In elementary school, we had regular earthquake drills. As I grew up, I realised the stress about it wasn't quite worthwhile. It is definitely something good to be aware about. Not something worth stressing over. Just have a plan setup. Move on with the day.
