  • This is a really charming example of highly angular wind writing which uses disjunct contours to build calm rather than anxiety! Hope you enjoy it!
Recorded by Peter Anthony Smith on a Buffet Festival Clarinet, Vandoren BD5 mouthpiece, BG L4SR ligature, and a Vandoren V12 Strength 3.5 reed.

Thank You for playing my duo so sensitively. The title, "Ogmology," is a word I invented that is the study of things with 0 grams of an ingredient (such as 0 gm cholesterol in bottled water, which of course is an absurdity). Ogmol was also a character in in s Julian May novel (and the name of our cat at the time) so take your pick as to which you prefer

Thank you for writing such a lovely work, and for the explanation of the title! I'm very glad to hear my rendition has met with your approval :)

I’m playing this for my senior recital. Can I ask what the composition date was?

So many things I want to add to it. Fermatas, cresendos, diminuendos. I might make the tempo a bit slower, as well.

Yeah man, if I was shopping it up a bit more seriously there's lots I could add to it - but regarding the tempo, I'm going off the precise metronome mark on the page!

I wish you reuploaded this or the link would work 😢 I like making duets with myself and this would’ve been really pretty

I just updated the link - The Clarinet Institute changed their website a few years back. You should definitely have a look at their online library; there's lots of neat stuff in there! Most of these resources haven't disappeared, and google searches will get you around most dead links :)

Does anybody know the class that this peice is registered under?

What do you mean by 'class'? If you're talking about style, then I don't really know how to summarise it further than saying it's a modal, modern classical work. Tricky question.

Class is to identify how hard the piece of music is. For example if the piece of music is registered to be a very difficult piece is would be class a. If the peice is hard but bot challenging it would be class b. If the music is simple and easy yet beautiful it would be class c. There are three classes in music.

Huh, I haven't heard that of that system before. What grading system uses it? You're probably a better judge of its class than I am!

I want to know the meaning of the name. What is ogmology?

    • @soundole2701
      @soundole2701  5 років тому

Wish I could tell you! It's not a real word...

Then is it a compound? Of what?

Can I find this piece in a clarinet duet book? I have two students that would like to play it for solo & ensemble, but I cannot find an original piece of music to use.

It's available to download from the Clarinet Institute of Los Angeles website. Have fun!

It is free at the clarinet Institute web site or you can buy it (with 6 other duos) at sheetmusicplus.com, in which I get $3.

I know what you mean, open voicings and some similarly shaped melodic lines :)
