Laid eyes on a MiG-21 and MiG-23 this week. The -21 is tiny in comparison to the -23. It was also small in comparison to the F-86 and most other American jets of the era.
Maybe? I actually argue the Drakken might be better. The thing about Mig-21 vs Crusader however is also.. training. You can have a great fighter and still get shot down because you are not as good of a pilot.
@@captainseyepatch3879 mmmmm....the Draken never shot down shit in real life plus it had limited air to ground capability...the F8E or F8J could effectively be employed in both air to air [(19/21 air to air victories during the Vietnam war at the cost of only three crusaders lost)Moreover AIM 9Ds were the most lethal sidewinder variant of its times ]and air to ground (it could employ Bullpupps/2000lb bombs and rockets)....I Bet the only thing the Draken might be better to the crusader is in turnings and turn rate?! But again the crusader is deatdlt at transonic speed and can turn on a dime and in vertical should be no match
LOL Short range. 2 cannon (decreased fuel capacity), 2 missiles (Red Top and Firestreak - obsolete, compared to AIM Sidewinder) Leaking fuel from upper engine always caused a fire hazard. Short range Radar; no track while scanning.
Mig21 still operational, no say more. I know its impossible to be in 1rst place a soviet/russian harware in western top (never objective) but was the king of those.
the mirage 3 is also still in service m8 ......ur point is void the mig 21 had its heyday in early 60s to late 70s....after which it became obsolescent...and is currently reaching obsolete state even with the best upgrades money can buy the only time the USSR was ahead of the western fighters was with the mig 19
@@3migsu you look at the accidents happening in India with Mig 21s and you'd know how obsolete they are. The number of accidents is high enough to show its not the pilots, its the aircraft (lack of parts leads to lack of maintenance). Also lacking behind in electronics, it barely keeps up even with the later updates. It's a thing of the past, amazing machine but not fit for today's wars. The Mirage 3 also getting old by the day, just nudges over but still becoming old and obsolete by the day.
How on Earth could you take the Lightning before the Mirage 3? Must be British Bias! The Mirage 3 was obviously the more successful Fighter of that time, only matched by the Mig-21 and F-4! No question the Lightning was fast, but turnfighting or multirole? Why do you think Britain bought the F-4's? Even in Israel the Mirage 3 and Kfir was working alongside F-4's for a long time while the Lightning only found a niece use before the Tornado was introduced. Even the Germans preferred to use the F-4 in the interceptor role and did not introduce Fighter Variants of the Tornado. That say's alot! Want to talk about fair British Bias? How about the amazing Harrier!
It wasn't! Because you didn't read, listen or understand? "Honourable Mentions" (correct spelling) is not in any order and that's why both were in far less detail. BTW. F4's in the British forces were initially for the FAA (Navy) only and then as a stop gap due to various cancellations and failures like the TSR2 and F111's. I know this because I was there and you were not! I even worked on German F4 fighter-bombers at Rheine as part of an RAF cross servicing team, so I also saw things from the Luftwaffe perspective. Phantoms were also well liked amongst RAF Aircrew, they were just a pain to work on as an Engineer.
@@johnp8131 Honorable Mentions, LOL! The Lightning would fit in there, but the Mirage 3 in the "Best Fighters", as number 2 between the Phantom and the Mig-21! At least they did not only serve in the Makers Country and had Wartime Experience with actual Dogfights and Air to Air Kills! The Lightning was nothing other than a english counterpart to the F-106! Not to mention that the F-106 could turn way better! Good Interceptor due to it's fast climb but way too clumsy for anything else! I'd even compare it with the Starfighter! However the Starfighter had again more Fights and more Brothers! Not to say it was the better design, far from it! You know, there is a difference between a High Altitude Bomber Interceptor and a Multirole Fighter - Both are called Fighter but only generally!

The Draken.. The jet that UNINTENTIONALLY invented the cobra manouver
When you're out of Crusaders, you're out of fighters...
My cousin flew the Crusader. Commanded a squadron of them on Yankee Station. He called the Phantom a "bomb truck"......
Really good videos, why such low subs?!
Thank you I’m really glad you enjoy them! I’m not too sure, but as long as people enjoy them though it’s all worth it!

yes u back :)
The MiG-21 is definitely deserving of this list still in active service and highly capable fuck the thing can carry nukes lol it can do it all
For the algorithm!
Crusader is best..combat proven in Vietnam...killed MiG 17/19/21..6:1 kill ratio...21 air to air kills... Crusader best 2 generation fighter no doubt

I mean speed wise no question yes
Probably the worst

It doesn't matter a BIT. It is the pilot who matters the most. Without a good pilot, it is a Masterpiece of metal.
