I don't understand why there have been a number of negative comments made about Lee in recent videos. He's a great player and very knowledgable on a variety of different brands. I can understand why some might be bothered by his over use of "yeah" but I think it's a simple case of Lee not being used to presenting and is something that will improve with time as he becomes more comfortable in front of the camera
They both do a good job. They guy on the right is pretty funky. I wish Fender wasn't so "vintage incorrect" with the spagetti logo on the jazz bass. They never existed.
Lee is awesome man. Bugger the people lol... But if James Hetfield says "yeah" it is just so cool. Lee is a great bassist and he knows his onions. Keep up the fingers Lee and stuff the people.
He said "just shy of 600lbs" and I was like "Damn, that's a heavy bass!" Then realized I'm an idiot.
crunchb3rry no, you’re just American😂
@@doesntmatter6734 Believe it or not, we're not all idiots. (I guess there is that Trump thing)
@@hot88s23 idiot detected
As the saying goes the U.S. & the UK 2 countries separated by one common language
Very seldom have I heard two bass players playing simultaneously that I didn't wish would stop. Killer grooves and feels.
Mex 7:57
Pro 12:12
Elite 18:38
Thank you sir you saved me plenty of time 🙂
I'm really digging this double bass/double bassist's review! Keep it up!
Guys - Totally wrong on the the Elite's PassiveTone control.
You've got stacked knobs, the lowest, big knob is your classic passive tone control and does nothing in active mode. Similarly the other tone controls (stacked high/bass, mid on top of the passive tone) only work on the active.
Cheers!
So there is a passive tone knob on the elite!!??
@@bassimprovjams3772 yes. It's the same set up as the model when it was called the “Deluxe”. I’ve heard a few reviewers make this mistake - it might be the case on the American Special, but not the Elite
I always love the part where they fiddle each other's knobs
You have to buy me a drink first before you can fiddle my knobs.
Yes its very sensual!
Lol this sounds wrong.
They mass debated.
Yep, a little bit fine act... :DDD
I like these bass videos! Thanks for giving bass players some content!
What a fantastic players you guys are!! Very very cool!
these 2 presenters work so well together! keep up the great videos, big fan
Damn fellas, you guys are really great players. I could listen to you two for days. So nice to stick a good bass into your hands and just let you go. Thank you!
Far more satisfying than even the most badass guitar solo. I love it when funky basslines come with bite and sharp mids.
Appreciate the review. The comparison was quite useful. I hadn't noticed that the Pro was string through body. They all sound great. But I have options budget wise.
It would be interesting to throw in the Squier vintage modified 70s for comparison
nice review guys the vmod pickups sound really nice the neck is a nice feature too
The shootout I have always dreamed of.
Great demo guys!! The “fiddling” with the controls in real-time playing really makes a diff in hearing the tone control sweeps, especially noticeable on the Elite (passive to active). Bravo, and thank you.
I'd love to see a challenge video with either these guys or the Chappers and Capt pair where they try to put together a gigging bass rig on the cheap (say 500 or 1000?). The high wattage requirements in bass gear could definitely make it interesting.
This is a great review. Love to see if you can add Fender MM, American Deluxe and compare the sound and options with these three!
izziOnBass A few days ago I played the 5 string Elite, Deluxe, and Professional basses back to back, maple and rosewood. I loved the Deluxe and Professional. I felt overwhelmed by the Elite. It's obviously a great bass, but the Deluxe was more comfortable with just as many options. The professional was comfortable and honestly I couldn't tell the difference between the neck profiles or the radiuses (radii for the Latin people). I'm going back for the Professional 5 in a few days.
What a great intro Jam!
What a jam Nathan and Lee awesome stuff
nice demo! I enjoyed it!
these guys have really great chemistry together
You guys play so well together.
You can alter the tone when in passive mode. It's the bottom dial on the tone stack control.
Great show..thanx guys!....
(The guy below who pointed out the 'yeah' stuff just spoilt it a bit..but no worries..)
Sounds nice, I think that all these basses sounded very good. What I can't get over with is how a typical Fender jazz bass looks. The colours, the tuners - too vintage for me, definitely
The tone does work in passive mode, when the active circuit is switched on the passive tone becomes dormant and you have bass, mid and treble.
Yes I was going to say the same thing. I think he's confused because the Bass, Midrange and Treble knobs don't work in passive mode. But bottom ring of the stacked midrange knob is actually the passive tone control. This ring has no function in the active mode, but works like the normal tone knob on a standard Jazz bass.
Guy in green sweater had a few drinks for sure - haha. Makes for quality content. Great videos
I love your videos guys! But on the installation of sound swapped. Bass with which on the left side plays in the right ear, and vice versa. I had to turn my headphones on my head :)
Just to let you know, when the bass is in passive the last knob becomes a tone knob, good review.
23:09 that's not true, the passive tone control is right there under the mid control, same as all previous Dlx models (as far as I know anyway).
Previous Deluxe Models that are MIM are almost the same except they dont have Active/Passive switching which means the Passive tone knob is absent. Cheers!
Absolutely love you guy's show but only one request here! please do a bit of rock and metal demos in between as well with pick and overdrive just to here how the basses compare to one style only. Would have loved to here how the Elite sounded with an overdrive and some aggressive playing a bit. Thanks guy's. Love your show. Greetings out of South Africa.
Uhm, not to in any way malign the fantastic Pete, but could it be the left and right audio are swapped for the initial jam?
..pretty creepy ^^
Course, the balance is also funky ... which made (makes?) me wonder if I was (am?) imagining it.
Doesn´t matter in the end. Great Jam anyway.
I just put my headphones on backwards :)
Hah, glad to see I'm not the only one whose brain was freaked out by this.
The Elite, for me. Great review, cool jam.
Nice bass muck about, f*king lovely playing, all good fun, you got the tones out and had a right laugh, good job guys.
The "feel" is the thing most precious.
Nice!! Whats the amp and mic setup for the recording?
Thanks
When will the video about mass debate be released?
And, actually there is a tone knob in passive: it's the bottom nearest the input jack. Only works in passive mode.
that mex bass just killed it!
Could you guys do an all about the bass on custom shop basses if you have some in stock?
What amps are they using here? Some really sweet tones in that opening jam.
Nathan looks to have the Darkglass Microtubes 900, whilst Lee looks to have a Gallien-Krueger MB 200.
When it is in Passive Mode you DO have a tone control. Nathan got that wrong. The lower part of the 4th stacked knob is that control...
Thank you!
Know one guy ex pit and recording player who has just ordered a couple of Harley-Benton basses out of curiosity to see what he got for 60 quid apiece with free return for a fretless and a fretted jazz bass, he is now gigging them with a local band and pleased as punch, says at that price he can write one off after a few gigs and they play great.
Man I've been flip flopping between the idea of getting a P bass or at least a P-style, or a J-bass for my next instrument, but damn dude. I think I'm fully on the jazz side now, these things sound incredible. Just a much more versatile range of tones than the P bass.
ABSOLUTELY - HAVE A LOOK AT YOU TUBE AND SEE THE PROFESSIONAL PEOPLE- WHAT ARE THE VAST MAJORITY OF THEM PLAYING - THE JAZZ BASS -IT'S A NO BRAINER!!!!!!
Wil the tone work in passive mode in a Jazz bass deluxe (usa)?
wish they had done each demo through Nathan's amp. in that initial jam I preferred his sound
Giuys the Fender elite does have a tone control when in passive mode - Its controlled by the bottom control of the bottom pot - The eq i.e treble mid and bass controls work in active mode - you don’t want to put people off buying these quality basses with your duff info - Great vids though
Don't play bass much. My Squier VM Jazz Bass does the job. Good vid.
If you look up Bass Groove in the dictionary, or for the young folk, Google, you get a photo of Lee with 2 thumbs up and a fantastic grin that says “You know it!” Outstanding.
is the guy on the right must really like Toejam and Earl
You guys should demo the new Active Deluxe Line, those are the in between for the Standard and Pro.
Wouldn’t call new line, just change in factory from USA to Mexico. Deluxe line always has been active.
Romeo Urias ah yes, I should have said new models from the Deluxe line. Good catch
That Elite jazz bassss..whoa!
I've got an elite and you can alter tone in passive
Please review the ultra line up...
I have both the pro and mex, and the pro feels better. The neck profile is just so much better in my hands, and the vibration feels better against your body. Im not sure if thats the wood and hardware. The tuning pegs is also better. The frets is also just a tad better. The sound is about the same. I am wondering about upgrading the pickups, but im not sure yet.
I have a great American fender elite Jass bass black
I don't see a Fender Elite Bass line in the U.S. but I do see a Fender Ultra Jazz bass. Are they the same thing?
All 3 sound great.
Surprised , no talking ? !!
Don't know how it'll last but THANK U
4:13 Great intro
Always up for a mass debate!
Here's a question for everyone. What is the purpose of a skunk stripe on a neck with a rosewood fretboard? I understand the point on a neck with a maple freboard.
do this again with the jazz 5 strings.
All sound great. To me, this is more maple vs rosewood.
The Pro sounds better than the Elite to my ears, but I am wondering if they are using the same strings.
You guys need to write a bass album together.
NIce playing boys
awesome players
Hell, I was IN THE MIDDLE of pricing out J basses when I saw this. Cap, would it be too much to get some of the custom companies like Warmoth and USACG to test out?
At the end of the day, Anderton's aren't truly "testing", rather demoing stuff they sell so people buy them. That's why even their "test" videos basically have no negative comments. You'll only see Warmoth and USACG stuff on their videos if they ever decide to start selling them or a guest comes on with one.
what a good jam
The tone nob works in passive mode and does nothing in active. Although I don’t find the tone nob doing all that much in passive. With an 3-band eq not much reason to also have a tone nob in active.
You guys should do rickenbacker 4003's
besides the point! no one cares.
Macreviewz requesting a specific model and brand of bass for the guys at andertons to review which they do in fact stock is a quite on point thing to ask, so I don't see what point your trying to come across
Yep Nice job Folks F MIM excelente!!!
Love my Standard
I think we forget how good these guys are on the bass.
The Elite sounds absolutely fantastic! Much better than my American Deluxe. I would love to know what amp they are using with that Bass; Anybody?
GK MB200 is what it looks like.
I played it yesterday and it was just that nice. I compared it pretty extensively against the professional which was also nice but I wished I hadn't felt the difference.
I play a 5 String 2014 American Standard Jazz
TnT1857 nice man.
I hate to say it, but the MIM Standard sounds the best of these three to my ears.
If nothing else it sounds better than the pro. Idk what that's about. All the pros I've heard consistently sounds a little thin.
Agreed
I think you’re just hearing the effects of the eq at the beginning of the American pro clip. It gets fatter. Also the MIM typically have more gain but much less defined/more muddy tone I’ve found compared to any of the American stock pups. Whether you prefer that is personal taste, but I guarantee you will hear the difference in a live setting.
I've been playing one for 15 years. Never played an american one that sounds or feels as good.
CLEAN YOUR EARS OUT, MATE. THIS ELITE IS AWESOME - I KNOW BECAUSE I GOT ONE.
Nathan sounds hella nice on a jbass
Love the video but he’s actually WRONG about the tone ring knob not working in passive mode. It’s actually the opposite it only works in passive mode and it does nothing in the active mode. In active mode you get the stacked mid range knob and the stacked treble and bass EQs working plus the pickup selector. I own an Elite V bass myself. Great video though.
YOU SAID THE TONE ONLY COMES IN WHEN THE ACTIVE KICKS IN - RUBBISH - THE LAST KNOB UNDERNEATH THE SMALL ONE ON THE END IS THE TONE FOR THE PASSIVE MODE OF THE BASS. HOW DO I KNOW? I JUST BOUGHT ONE, SO DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE YOU START PUTTING YOURSELF UP THERE AS AN EXPERT.
mexican wins just for the price, change the bridge and a good set up and you have a nicee bass for $700
How come they're not looking at the Mexican deluxe stuff? The specs were updated in 2016? Is the Mexican deluxe range the bastard child of the Fender family?
Good
Two good players
Please do a video on the ampeg portaflex series or on the ba v2 combo's
The Pro sounds the sweetest, doesn't have any of the rattles that the MIM and Elite have for some reason. FML I need to win a lottery to get that Pro.
YEAH!
The j-basses with the black printed points or blocks on the maple fingerboard looking really cheap..
Sire!
I have the Mexican built Jazz and I think the neck is too slim , anyhow its okay.
the elite feels immediately better in my ears.
More music should be made like this, two basses nothing else....
Mexican sounds better than Pro to my ears!
Victor Scherman the same for me
Same for me as well.
I love mine
I own both and I can assure you the pro is a much better instrument, even in terms of the pickups, despite how it sounds in this video
@@johnr374 But it also depends on each single instrument how it sounds - of course not pickup wise but the wood
bring back lee to this series
Now you're talking my language...
Fender Jazz bass pro has best sound
Great on the players part, but the guy fiddling the knobs .... wtf!
wrong demo for the elite
No more government subsidies for active pickups
Ugh, those inlays on the elite look like black masking tape. The pearloid inlays look much better IMO. Anyways, nice jam.
