    I am wondering about other water soluble crayons now, mainly because I don’t have Stabilos. I have Neocolor II, Gelato, Inktense, Marabu, probably others. But it’s worth trying to see what happens.
    I know you can sandwich watercolor paints and colored pencils between acrylic mediums by starting your gel print with clear gesso.
    I’m also wondering about fabric prints. I’m a bit obsessed with getting watercolor effects on fabric. Dye and watercolor do not wick the same way. And of course substrate matters. There’s the beginning of an idea here. Watercolor effect gel prints on fabric. Something to noodle around with.
    I have successfully achieved a watercolor effect on fabric with Neocolor II and acrylic fabric medium. Color was true for years. Really impressive. But it isn’t suitable for yardage, more like tshirts and pillows.
    Gel plates are limited in size but printing onto a roll of fabric like Elizabeth does with the rolls of rice paper should be doable. I wonder if you can do a pickup print with fabric medium. Fabric medium tends to be thin. Regular acrylic paint tends to chip off fabric especially with repeated washing. Gosh my mind is swirling with the variables of fabric weave and fiber type. I’m really just thinking out loud.
    I glue examples of my prints in my journal and make notes on my technique. One thing I have learned for sure with gel printing is I have to document my techniques. Otherwise I’ll look at prints months later and wonder how I did it.

      I have no experience with fabric as that is not my medium. I am sure you can find some info online about it however. There is a fabric medium made by Golden that you can mix into ANY acrylic paint to make ti more suitable for fabric.

    This is such a cool idea! I will definitely have to try this. I don't have any woodys, but I do have other brands of watercolor pencils. Lets see how well they work too.

    I bought the Woodies after watching Elizabeth use them on her foam stencils. Thanks for more ideas. Love you two (from a former Rhode Islander).

    You two are such fun!!! I bought a set of Woodies and was unimpressed, I almost gave them away. This technique is a whole new game! I tried the dry pick up method with printer paper. But I do have the rice paper to try the wet method next. Thank you!

      My pleasure! I like them a lot, I use them for Mark , making on top of my collages, I use them on the gel plate, and I use them on foam stamps. I love the fact that they will write on any surface and that they are opaque, yet you can wipe them off, if you are not happy with the results.

    Is it possible that Elizabeth did not use heat to dry her print and that is why they look so different?

    • @ElizabethStHilaire
      @ElizabethStHilaire  8 місяців тому +1

      Anytime you try to repeat a technique you’re going to get different results. Being that we’re human beings and not machines that’s just what happens in both cases the ghost print on the gel plate was completely dry.

    I wonder if you put a little less water on the gel plate, put the woodies on the plate and then used that as a “stamp pad” for your flower foamies if it would look like a Monet painting?

    It’s unclear to me what is already on the plate at time marker 10:57. Can you please be more specific on the creation of the existing design you started adding Woodys to?
