The first time I heard Cover Me Up, it was sung by Morgan Wallen. No disrespect to Jason Isbell, but Morgan kills it and his voice sounds the most natural and not forced.
It’s a Spotify session so it’s typically exclusive to Spotify, Jason Isbell was the original singer-writer, but Morgan Wallan did the cover after zac brown band did. Personally I feel like Zac Brown takes it all, but to each their own ☺️
Why is everyone doing this cover all of a sudden? First it was ZBB, then Morgan Wallen, and now Rodney Atkins. I love ZBB but I personally think Wallen and Atkins have a better voice for it, I like the raspiness in their voices for a song like this.
The reason why everyone is doing a cover of it is because it’s a damn awesome song that pulls at your heartstrings. Best cover, imo, is Home Free. Chance really nailed it. However, it’ll be tough for someone to ever outdo Isbell
I mean he also wrote the masterpiece, and the part where he sings about sobering up is actually in regard to his struggle with being an alcoholic. I saw Isbell live and it was amazing, whole crowd started cheering him on when he sang that part. No one can beat the passion Jason Isbell portrays in this song because he wrote it from the heart, but that’s just my opinion!
Listened to many covers of this beautiful song but the original simply can't be beaten. Well done Jason Isbell.
