You should be able to, make sure you follow the instructions in the mechapwn installation on screen correctly. You’ll be replacing your SCPH for a DTL variant but be sure to keep the same model number. If you are confused, give this video a watch too. ua-cam.com/video/BzKVcpjugCE/v-deo.html My video was just showing an example of a US ps2 playing JP discs.

Can you guys help me out? I have a PS2 Slim NTSC 70012. I think my model might not be compatible with Mechapwn because I tried it and experienced issues. I launch Mechapwn and it makes a backup of my original bios. I flash a dex version of my model which is DTL-70012. Now I am able to play PS1 backups but I can not play ESR games or watch DVD movies. I revert back to stock NVM.bin and everything is fine again. Why does this happen? My model is on the Dex list. I even tried flashing DTL-70001 instead of DTL-70012 but no improvement.
MechaPwn breaks DVD playback functionality. This is outlined on the download page for the hack. It's working as intended on your PS2 and the DVD breaking is an unfortunate side effect of unlocking the Mechacon chip. Repeatedly flashing the console will destroy it though, and if you want to try one more time to MechaPwn it, I wouldn't recommend reverting back to stock afterward. Honestly at this point if you want to try again, buy another PS2 and do it on that to save the chip on your current PS2, or backup the ISO from your game disc (or wherever else you may have, ahem, "obtained" the ISO) and run it through SMB in OPL.
I have a collection of these 4 games in demo form complete with the demo sleeves all rated Teen that I’m willing to sell if you’re interested dot hack collector
You can use the FMCB memory card or the FreeDVDBoot disc; either option will work or you can use an alternate means of loading files from a USB such as OpenTuna and Fortuna.
@@dothacknetwork I don't think 🤔 mines compatible for mechapwn- I have a little 👁️ link on mine that you were talking about. So would you have Any other tricks up your sleeve I could try to bypass the regional codes on my PS2? I want to bypass & play PAL regional code 🎮 game.
Yea and no, check out the GitHub for MechaPwn, there are ways to make FMCB and your DVD player to still work normally and have the features of region free, you can even force all discs to be read as PS2 discs without ESR patching them but then you’ll loose everything else i.e. PS1 and DVD ability. Give the readme a good read over to know your options and which option suits your needs.
This is neat, but it'd honestly be much simpler to not even use any discs, get the ISO online for the correct region of your PS2 and load it off an HDD. Then again i play with PCSX2 as native PS2 games really don't look good at all unless on a good CRT with component.
@@supremeoverlordkrenner6160 Ugh so what about the legality of modifying Sony's console to even do this trick? I'm sure Sony doesn't like that. I'm of the opinion that if you bought it then its yours and you can do what you want with it, both the console and the games. It's actually perfectly legal to play through emulation provided you own the games yourself and rip the ISOs yourself through a DVD drive. I also dont frown upon people who get the games for "free" on the net if they cant afford them especially these games where part 4 is lately $400 for a NA version. As far as the PS2 is concerned developers aren't making any money on that console anymore as any game you buy is going to be from third parties. I could say buy it again on a newer console digitally but Sony doesn't give a flying fuck for backwards compatibility and there are barely any games from the PS2 era that can play on modern hardware.
You can load an ISO off a USB drive, attached HDD or from LAN over Samba, with just a FreeMCBoot card, but loading times may vary, and obviously you should probably use a legitimate ISO ripped from your own copy of the game
@@synthsynner USB interface is very slow on the ps2 so you either want to use LAN to stream the games from your PC or attach an HDD. Also USB drives aren't really meant for constant read access like SSDs or HDDs so I wouldn't recommend them for long term use to play games off of.
Should, just be sure to select the correct model during the installation. Also check the GitHub page to learn about the DVD firmware issue, you’ll most likely loose the ability to use your PS2 as a DVD movie player unless you update its firmware.
