The Yamaha ethic is exemplified in their motorcycle racing history: For a long run of years, they won a huge number of the long races they entered. Their bikes finished the high mileage races without mechanical breakdowns at a much higher rate than any other manufacturer. They of course also had the speed, handling, athletes and crew to make this happen. Just a great team, as is Yamaha itself.

Yamaha was the first company to make a drum kit with piano lacquer finish shells as they have had decades of experience with their world class pianos. Prior to that, drums were covered in a vinyl wrap or simply painted.
The cymbals stands were developed in their motorcycle plants where they made the mufflers and forks.

One of the most underrated, but I like the acoustics more than the electrIcs. I love their basses, but have yet to play any modern Yamaha 6 string electrics I love. 70s Yamahas. Yes. Incredible. But the acoustics. Phenomenal, and thankfully not well known, despite essentially populating the planet. I need to snap a few 80s - 90s FGs before it's too late. Yes. They were great even then. I think the new inexpensive ones are good too. And I would lay money that they will age and break in well, unlike most factory guitars, which seem to get worse and become useless in a short amount of time.
I took my new FG5X to a friend's house. He was sure nothing, especially at a sub $1500, could compete with "any Martin". Lol. This guitar blows most straight out of the factory Martin guitars out of the water. Even my 90s FG 441-s shocks people with its power and evenness. It's my baby. I paid ~$300 in 96. I had 10x that in my pocket when I went into the vintage guitar shop. The luthier there had just finished setting it up and he was swearing up and down it was the best guitar they had in the shop. I played it and bought it. He was right. Int got better over the years too. Some of their acoustics, even the factory built acoustics, if you find the right one, give any handmade guitar a run for their money. Sounds crazy, but it's true. I'm not even including their fancy guitars. Yamaha also has finely appointed showpieces. I'm just thrilled that I can get a handmade in Japan, Yamaha acoustic for around $1300 that can put a $5k Martin in it's place.

My Aunt, Sally C. Hughes, started working in the Yamaha musical instruments department in the mid-60s...she eventually became head of the musical instruments division by the late 70s in Buena Park, CA....she remained there until she retired about 20 years ago.....
My aunt and many of my family were and still are the staff at the Yamaha Conventions. I was not permitted to be involved.
About the time my aunt retired,
My cousin, Jennifer (Babbitt) Halon, is running things these days....last I heard.....
Suffice to say, my 1st & 2nd guitars were Yamaha.
    1st was an acoustic FG-410B in 1993.
    2nd was a Pacifica electric in 1994.

I’ve had 6 Pacifica’s. I absolutely love them. The high end models have a fabulous tone. I use a couple of 112 Strat types as my working guitars. I’ve modded a couple over the years but the wood is good. Not a bad word to say about them.

My first electric guitar was one I got in 1995. It’s a Pacifica PAC102S(S for singlecut). I still have it and play it regularly. It’s just a monster of a guitar with a tele type setup, and I just gave it its first truss adjustment ever about 8 months ago and restrung/reintonated it. I then didn’t touch it for six months. I pulled it back out and it was still in tune. I learned every type of music I’ve played in my life on it, and it’ll always be mine.
I also have a Yamaha RGX420S in a metallic green and I play that guitar almost every time I play. I upgraded it with EMG81/85 after ten years, but the Floyd on it is still good.

The OEM P90s Yamaha use are really great, tonally and output wise. OEM for YGD is G&B Korea. I have an OEM G&B P90n in my PAC311H. High output, and tonally, to my ear it is pragmatically indiscernible from the much more expensive Seymour Duncan P90-1n in the 611H. I have a double alnico V YGD (OEM G&B) humbucker Revstar among an inventory of guitars befitting everything I need & want to do. I don't really want any more guitars if I (need) can avoid it. The exception and only guitar I definitely plan on adding to my inventory at some future point now is that double P90 RS502T.

Great review of the whole Yamaha shebang. I’ve had Yamaha mini bikes to motocross bikes, my youngest has a PW80 as we speak. They are built with such attention to detail and reliability. Same with guitars, in my opinion. I’ve still got my first guitar-a 1989 RGZ211M. The frets are worn and I’ve replaced a push-push pot (coil split) but the guitar is as good as new. I hated on it a bit as I wanted a BC Rich, Jackson or Ibanez. Now I’m marginally more mature and relatively free to buy whatever I want, I’ve got some nice guitars. The old Yamaha still cranks out metal/loud rock with the hot HB pickup, but does an awesome impression of a Tele with split bridge and single coil neck. Combined with solid build that put up with lots of abuse as a teenager and mostly-drunk Uni student, it’s something I’ll hand to my kids as my most treasured axe. Humble Yamaha FTMFW!

Hey, thanks for giving Yamaha some love! I really feel like they often get overlooked, and that's a shame, because they really deserve more attention.
Our first piano (an upright) was a Yamaha. I always loved playing on that. I like their baby grand as well. They are high quality for a really decent price. Yamaha were also one of the first brands of digital piano with actual hammer-simulation (Clavinova) and high quality sound samples for simulating various pianos in various settings.
I've never ridden on a Yamaha motorcycle, though a girlfriend of mine had one. She loved it!
And of course, I love Yamaha guitars! I own a Pacifica and a Revstar. They are well built, sound great, and of course you get a lot of bang for your buck! I particularly like that the Revstar is a model in its own league, not a copy of a Strat, Tele, Les Paul, nor SG. The acoustics are solid workhorses with innovative features, but I prefer other brands.

Bought new one, back in 2011 for 300 eur!!! Hollow body, AES 620HB. Absolutely beautiful instrument. Still one of my favorite guitar. Playing it is like putting fingers in warm butter. Unlike my tele, which fights me back while playing :)
It is a shame that Yamaha guitars are so underestimated . Looks that with Revstar models they are finally getting the respect they have long deserved😊

Yamaha is great. First cheap acoustic I bought for 279 about 14 years ago and sounds pretty much as good as my £2K Gibson and Martin’s. Their APX and CPX range a great too. So musically I think they’re a great company. Maybe why I have an R1 and use their AV Amps too

I have an apx 900 from around 2008/2009 I guess. They were brand new out and I brought the first one in the shop on offer almost half the price they went up to a month later.
I still play the apx most days… it’s my go to guitar and last night after some new strings and a polish I was talking to it telling it how epic it looked.
Well on its way to needing its 3rd set of frets!
And I agree as to value… I played every guitar (up to 2.5k) in that shop at the time but that one was the one I went for on sale at £900.
It plays great acoustic and just as well plugged in either live or in a studio.
Better had go play it now.

Yamaha co developed the Lexus LFA engine and exhaust and that car is well known for being one the best sounding production cars ever made. Yamaha are top tier when it comes to sonics. The quality has always been really good in my experience. Started playing a year ago and knowing very little about guitars but having had Yamaha bikes I was confident a Pacifica would be a safe bet. It’s been a brilliant guitar for me.

No I’m not familiar mate. Yamaha engine was it?

    • @TavisAllen
      @TavisAllen 2 роки тому

@@matthewcates38 Yeah. Ford asked Yamaha for a V6, which they put into the 1989 Taurus sedan. In 1996, the engine was a V8, and only Yamaha heads were used. Anyway, if memory serves, it was a 'sleeper hit', subdued, but powerful for its time.

@@TavisAllen I just checked out this car and the history from the v6 through to the v8. Awesome stuff. I read they used Cosworth blueprints too. Car and guitars and I could go on for days I think 😆.

@@matthewcates38 Yeah, I gave you a sketch, so I'm glad you searched for more. I'm not now, but was an above-average petrolhead growing up. It's interesting how "set in amber" younger memories can be. I (we?) grew up with such iconic cars as: Ferrari 288 GTO, Porsche 959, Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo, and Mazda Miata.

Had my Revstar 502T since they released it. Also have a Pacifica 511v. Both are fantastic and would not swap them out for anything else. Bought the THR30II when they realised that. Best purchase I have made in a while. Way better than the Spart by a country mile. Yamaha fan boy you could say. Still like my Gibsons and Fenders but value for money is with the Yamaha for me..👍🇦🇺

My mother, back in the day, bought a pre-1966 "Dynamic Guitar." It's what I taught myself on, and is still at her home. Here in Japan, I bought a RGX A2, specifically for its unique construction. Growing up, I took classical piano lessons, first on a Yamaha upright, and later a baby grand. I played a Yamaha tenor sax from grade 7 -12.

Please do a review of the Yamaha Pacifica PAC611VFMX Limited Edition. It has a Seymour Duncan Custom 5 TB-14 Trembucker humbucking pickup in the bridge position in a mounting ring and a Seymour Duncan Vintage SP90-1n Alnico 5 neck single-coil pickup is direct-mounted to the body. It’s the same as the standard 611 with the Wilkinson tremelo with Grover locking tuners and Graph Tech nut and string trees except that it has a satin finish body and neck as well as an aluminum pick guard!

the reason why Pacifica is 'THE' beginner guitar: Simply because it's so versatile, it helps beginners find their sound and style. Also, they look cool.

That "dry switch" on the Rev Star seems to be nothing more than a treble bleed switch, like Fender has been doing on Jaguars since 1962. I'd be curious to see if Yamaha is also using a .003uF cap in theirs too.

The dry switch is a bass cut ☺️ if you have a 3 knob guitar I recommend trying it. For 2 knobs you can get a push pull pot that lets you switch between a treble cut vs bass cut.

I started noticing that yamaha made guitars. When i saw the guitarists of 3 Inches of Blood using Yamaha SGs.
I also saw some videos, of Chris Poland using an old Yamaha SG.
So i though, these guitars have to be great, then saw how much they cost.
So, i found out very quickly about the revstar.
But, i didn't got myself one yet.

I find myself in the extremely unusual position of having a lemon from Yamaha. First thing that happened was the tone knob fell off immediately. Easy fix no problem. Then the bridge pickup wiring was sticking out from the cavity, and the worst thing, it looks like the router that took out the back cavity caught the back of the body and left a big indentation on the back. It's gone back to the shop and I'm waiting on the replacement now.

I recently pas icked up a couple Yamaha's, a Rgz212m and a ssc 2500 both have push/pull knobs but the Yamaha's are actually push/push which is cool as shit ! The ssc has three blade pickups with three mini toggles instead of a switch ... which is cool as shit ! I'm definitely getting a revstar 🎸🤟🍻
