He's the man! I read he was previously working a job in the white house, so with Tumps new Stargate program AGI tech oriented, I think there may be some reach definitely some influence there, maybe Flanagan inspired Trump in a one to one conversation giving Joe's passion for the Stargate Atlantis show, dnough to buy it outright! But was given a better option, to lease it out rights and all, that would essentially untie the hands of og producers, taking the show to another platform, expanding its reach and access to back the up and coming next gen cgi tech, like what is used in Disneys Star wars franchise, the mandalorian etc etc etc, no I'm not a millennial. I just forget the star wars series names and anyway, look at that setup! How realistic it is and anything can be done using StageCraft, a virtual production technology that creates virtual environments for actors to perform in front of. StageCraft uses LED screens to project 3D images that move with the actors and camera. Using powerful NVIDIA gpu's to generate images in real-time and with newer ai integrated igpu cpu apu and egpu ai will cut costs, so Stargate franchise it can still work today and WOW! I would love to see Stargate created in this way.
Syfy didn't lean into more fantasy and supernatural. What they did was raise a middle finger to the once loyal SciFi Network fanbase as the network shifted to more low cost production such as reality trash, wrestling, and anything else that made the network act as a window on a sewer pipe. It didn't matter what the fans wanted either. Anyone that publicly criticized them on their social media channels was banned. They even took down their forums to silence their critics.
Every time I fly to Japan (about every 6 months) I load 10 episodes on my iPad to watch.. last flight, the older man next to me said, “boy I miss that show, don’t make them like that anymore..”. We both agreed
I once spent a train journey ten years ago watching SG-1 through the gap in the seats as the girl in front was watching it on her laptop. Thankfully she had the subtitles on. One of the Anubis episodes I think.
ye all we get these days are bad tries at lord of the ring spinoffs lol. big money companies led by incompetent people who only care about their own wealth and power destroy creative and immersive world building within series sadly
Sci-fi made the careers of many actors and actresses heck Jessica alba started acting with the channel in dark angel. That put her on the radar for Hollywood
I was always sad that they canceled Atlantis when they did. I mean, that last season was some of the best stuff from the series and it introduced two new villain races into the show; the angry antagonistic Asgard and the one group of unnamed aliens from that one episode early in season 5 where they're jumping realities. I had high hopes for a season 6 before the cancellation announcement.
Joe Flanigan was very close to continuing it, but MGM was simply falling apart. Amazon bought them and reorganized how the studio was structured while setting up new physical studios to shoot in as MGM no longer directly owned any, they were renting studio space as needed. Amazon did not want to rent studio space for their productions. If any new stargate happens, it should be possible in the next year or two. MGM projects that were started before amazon bought them are reaching release, so amazon will now be able to focus on things MGM ignored.
@@solandri69 They should do what they did with sg-1. Launch a new show with a new cast. Flannigan can be higher ranking and in charge of a program with new sg teams with 20 years having gone by. Have it start with the return to having a base in pegasus or some other new thing that will have new people in a new location with new stuff to do.
@@MD2389 I kind of got the feeling that those aliens felt a lot like the Wraith but them and a cross with the Borg what with the tech built into them and all. Still it was pretty cool that they gave us pretty much two new possible villains that season.
I would recommend reading the Stargate Atlantis legacy books. They're not official however they pretty much stay in cannon when it comes to picking up where season 5 ended. If anything the books paint a much better alternate reality if you will, because reading the books is like an extra two or three seasons.
I always wondered if after Atlantis was on Earth if people dialing Earth from another planet would get the original Earth gate or the Atlantis gate instead. We never got to find out.
@@Archaeonauts I think McKay mentioned that in a few episodes. I think when it's close to Earth the Pegasus gate becomes primary indeed Milky Way gate is secondary or something to that nature. Don't quote me on that because it's been a minute since I binged watch the series
Yeah, hated SGU , the drama 'lovies' took over what was a fun franchise and destroyed it. Even the basics , that the humans had any right to affect the mission anoyed me.
@@tonyug113 I saw like dive minutes of SGU and noped out of it because of the exact reasons you mentioned. I was like this is a military operation right? Why is the civilian dictating things? And why do we have a military and civilian faction on the ship? Yeah nope I am done here.
They tried to do something different with SGU. Instead of the episodic format, they wanted a plot continuity between episodes. They wanted to shift the focus from exploration and discovery of new things to the characters and the drama. But that's not really what the fans wanted from a SG serie.
@viper2165 SGU has grown on me over the years but I did feel like you at first. For me I didn't originally like how it focused more on the people vs the sci-fi aspect
at least we have star wars.... i mean star gate... i mean star trek.... i mean lord of the rings... i mean wheel of time... i mean the nightly news... i mean uhhh... what do we still have? oh right, each other.
Probably because in my personal opinion none of the shows dragged on longer then they should have. Sg-1 may have introduced the Ori in the final two seasons but I think Unending is a wonderful finale. Atlantis, its was full circle, the first scene was of Atlantis leaving Earth and it returned in the final episode to save it. Universe, it didn't get a chance to stretch its legs but it managed to leave an impact with a story focused more on survival and characters then fighting the bad guy of the week.
The money that SGA raked in paid for a lot of other shows that were worthless, and money was sunk into the sinking ship of MGM - Joe Flanigan has publicly said exactly what happened - he was treated horribly, threatened, etc.
only 10 million? That's basically the same budget. Inflation so lets double that to 4.5 million, then cut episodes in half from 20 to 10 so double the budget again 9 mil an episode.
Joe Flanigan is up there with Richard Hatch in trying to revive their respective SciFi TV Series. Both iconic in their roles and loved/respected by fans. I caught Stargate once SGU was on weekly and then went and binged SG1 and SGA. I find I enjoy SGA the most and think the creators used the SG1 experience to make an even better show to follow-up and fit a modern audience that had the technology to see episodes week to week via DVR so created a better experience as we saw with later SG1 seasons.
SGA is definitely the peak for the franchise. The problem with SGU is it was designed for a totally different audience. They wanted to get bigger more teenage crowd on board and that changed the entire style of the show hence all the music montages and stuff like that which basically never happened in the original shows. Now that amazon holds the rights I really hope any future Stargate project has Joe Flanigan on board. It's exactly that kind of love and passion you need to make a great show.
The problem with Atlantis, which I loved, was its abrupt ending. It basically ended on a cliffhanger, leading me to believe that the cancellation was not planned but rather happened quite hastily. Universe thereafter was simply not a worthy successor. While they found the right mix of tension, drama, and humor in SG1 and Atlantis, Universe consisted mainly of drama, and for the most part, relationship drama. It was simply exhausting to watch; it was the first Stargate series where I fast-forwarded through large portions of episodes because I couldn't stand those endless "who's sleeping with whom" segments, and they didn't interest me. To this day, I am a big fan of SG1 and Atlantis, but Universe was, for me, a soap opera that just happened to be set in the Stargate universe. Even the general vibe that this series conveyed with its lighting and setting was simply depressing.
Disagree. I liked SGU best of all the shows. It was the only one that truly felt like it had real stakes. It was dark and gritty. And the entire show was a giant mystery... figuring out Destiny.
In addition to that: Universe was plain bad. The colonels would all have been court martialled ten times a day and the "master sergeant" would have had to enlist before he was born to have time in service to attain that rank (see Tim Walz on how to fail that) plus being a really bad soldier (would have had trouble to rise above Lance Corporal), Then the fraternisation, etc you mentioned and it was really bad.
I agree it's the weaker of the 3 shows, but I was intrigued for season 3.. who were those powerful god-like beings?, did destiny survive the hypersleep journey..what about poor eli who didn't have a sleep pod?
@@Archangelglenn Indeed, after seeing the castration of Trek, wars, GI Joe, Halo, and many others. I don't want Stargate to get corrupted with that kind of garbage.
Atlantis was my favorite out of 3. Then SG-1, then Universe, the most controversial to me, though I really liked the worldbuilding and expansion of what was before. Seeing real aliens such as Nakai was cool and refreshing... Anyway, after Origins released I`m really afraid to expect anything new from StarGate franchise😄 Another series I enjoyed was Dark Matter, which also was shut down by Syfy, if I`m not mistaken
@@Bobbydoesarchery Amazon had that awful LOTR show that they dumped a billion on. Imagine how many good shows could have been funded with that alone. Not to mention the other rubbish that amazon puts out.
@Adanu191 I wasn't a fan (probably more personal taste than anything), but it wasn't bad. Certainly not compared to the mess that was the Halo TV show. That one makes all other adaptations look good by comparison.
Every year i have a marathon, i watch everything Star Gate related. You could say it has a special place in my heart because i grew up with Star Gate. As sad it was when it ended at least i'm glad it wasn't some huge cliffhanger but instead they returned to Earth...
While it is a shock to discover just how much $$$ it cost to make even a single episode, Stargate still remains one of the most beloved and well known Sci-Fi franchises of all time. It still baffles me nothing has been announced for a revival of the series since Amazon acquired the right to it.
@Volfur2251 I agree though I think Babylon5 and the new startrek strange new worlds warrant consideration. Maybe I'm giving too much credit to strange new worlds because I watched it so recent, maybe world building and sci fi elements were better in next generation or even voyager
@@WaterspoutsOfTheDeep Strange New Worlds is one of the better new Treks for sure; coming off the coattails of Discovery I didn't pay much attention to its first season. It's got potential, it's just surrounded by so many other terrible Star Trek series lately.

I like all three Stargate iterations. SQ1 Atlantis and Stargate universe. It's the best sci-fi show that's ever been made in my mind. I hope they come out with something and do the original series justice!! Atlantis was hard to beat and sg1 just kind of ran its course
Lots of rumors that Amazon will bring it back for Prime. SciTrek has been doing some "reporting" on that. Problem is, I don't think Amazon realizes the property it has and what it could do for them. Instead, they are pouring hundreds of millions into the atrocious "Rings of Power".
Agreed, I feel the same about SG1 also. It's like everything was all revved up right at the end and then nothing lol. Ending with the Asgard drop out of nowhere is just nuts. They shouldn't have done it. There was zero reason to do so. Should have been something with the ancients getting involved for the last episode with the Asgard giving technology because they are going into hiding or finding a new home into another galaxy and will contact earth down the road. That way they could use the asgard tech for atlantis.
@ Yes glad we got that, it was like a whole tv season crammed into a movie lol. It's too bad the dvd movie "industry" can't think of the word bottomed out and we didn't get lots more one off dvd stargate releases. I could see us have getting easily 10+ of those type dvd movie releases otherwise lots of crossovers between all the shows and actors.
@@meganoobbg3387 How could you, wheel of time has so many girl bosses. lol being serious the last 3 seasons of expanse was decent. I think the issue is just who is chosen as show runner. If Amazon had any brains, they would create new stargate series based on the origins of the different aliens throughout the different shows. What they need to do is create a show that tells us the entire history between the Ori and the Ancients and then move on to the history of the G'ould, the Wraith, the travelers, origins and history of the Asgard and how many of them split off and went to the Pegasus galaxy and finally gives us a series actually showing who the Furlings are.
That sounds a lot expensive, just for a few minutes of "The expanse" space battles cost millions, so we can imagine how it would be in a show with so many special effects plus all the other costs Best case scenario you get 1 show with 2 seasons each with 10 episodes, then it ends because of costs. Worst case scenario you get some weird low cost stargate series that looks horrible. But we can dream about it of course :/
I was just thinking about that. I feel like such shows would work in this day in age. It would be similar in some aspects to Babylon 5, Earth Final Conflict and also Sanctuary, Yes completely different shows but a tone and look that could be comparable. The Stargate franchise has more potential then even Star Trek with its best days behind and it current days worse than Enterprise which was SGU of Star Trek. Scifi may have been a niche thing, and still is, but its niche with a large fanbase and even "normies" watch it. Scifi rebranding to Scyfy and going full fantasy and supernatural route was a bad idea. Scifi is short for Science fiction for a reason. Rebranding as Scyfy was a horrible idea for the them. Then even went back to science fiction later on with shows like Killjoy. To little to late though. Most people like myself checked out of it. I wonder how its doing now and what its showing now.
@ThrillJester I stopped watching that channel the moment they rebranded, and while killjoys was a decent show. It lacked in writing and story arc, although the ship(Lucy) was awsome
@fberdf If Amazon can pay for the final 3 seasons of CGI in the Expanse, they damn sure can spend that same amount of money and effort for Stargate. The problem is whether the new shows will go politically brainwashed with bullshit ideology in the same way Disney has done with Star Wars, Snow White, The Little Mermaid and so on.
Amazon bought MGM and have been sitting on Stargate for a very long time. Hopefully they will announce something before too long. I would rather have more of Stargate than the latest Rings of Power.
If you start the Stargate journey, you will probably have a full year episodes ahead of you. Enjoy! 10 Stargate SG-1 seasons, 5 Stargate Atlantis seasons, & 2 Stargate Universe seasons. Watch the shows in the order typed. It makes for a more cohesive storyline. As an aside, disregard the naysayers of Stargate Universe. Most the "naysayers" gave up during Season 1. Season 2 was incredible!

It was a great time for TV. Farscape, Firefly, Stargate Atlantis & Stargate, Star Trek Enterprise, and even other tv like Big Bang Theory knew it. And seeing actors on eachother's shows after they ended was a joy; like Ben Browder in SG1 and Jewel Staite in SG:A. They were all self-aware of the times and the tv production landscape.
Except Stargate on Scify channel ended Farscape in it's peak over SG1 which was past it's prime before it aired S7. SGA was good for 1 year, ST Enterprise was never that good. You knew Scifi as the Golden era ended at that time. Early/mid 90's to early 2000's were peak, farscape/Firefly were the end of that era.
Stargate Universe's new "grittier" style was not well received by everyone I know. I'm not sure why they decided to change the formula that worked and were then surprised with the new formula didn't work.
I think it was mainly two factors, first a lot of fans gave them negative feedback for resolving SGA's survival while "cut off from earth" aspect to quickly. SGU was a chance to retry that narrative device but on a more long term scale. 2nd the popularity of the dark gritty style from the BattleStar Galactica series was in vogue and the long distance nature of the lost in space plot that effectively disconnected it from both the other Star Gate series meant that they could play around with that darker more dramatic style within the same universe more easily.
Haven't seen Universe but sounds a lot like star trek Picard with it's dark and gritty atmosphere and a lot of F-bombs. Totally not star trek I know at all
they did what all the trekkers are (still) criticizing rick berman for NOT doing with all "his" shows over the years - evolving the franchise. as we say in german "wie man's macht, macht man's falsch" (means they faced a lose lose situation with SG-U)
I don't want Stargate to get the Rings Of Power treatment, which if revived now, it absolutely would. I'd rather it stay a fond memory then a tarnished reality.
@@donaldduck830 They have done great sci fi series before. Funnily enough, listing the names of those sci fis series triggered the algo here is some weird way that make them removes those post.
Star Gate Atlantis was amazing!!!! I loved it. Universe was a terrible teenage drama. I miss it so much but if it was made today it would be so woke and trendy which would kill it in the first season.
It is also the Sad reality that All good things must End. I fondly rewatch the show from time to time with my Mom, wich over the year became her favorite shows.
@@mattryan7124 Capcrica had really good charcters, Greystone was well played and Alessandra Toressani, I dont know any other role she played after that in a more popular scifi series?
As a hardcore Stargate fan. I was reasonably satisfied with how SG-1 and Atlantis ended. Shows can't go on too long or you lose the thing that makes them great. I was extremely hyped for Universe and much of it was great. However the "these are the wrong people" narrative left me quite unsatisfied. Them being cut off from home is fine, but there was no reason to have them be a improvised team. It should of been a proper team like Atlantis. The compelling narrative of an infinite universe with infinite cosmic wonders to see would be enough to bring in the audience. All the interpersonal relationships they where pushing was unnecessary and I believe a primary reason for the shows unpopularity. It's a science fiction show, not a soap opera. Universe had so much potential and they wasted it pushing a narrative that never really worked. They could of even corrected the mistake, opening the gate to earth and bringing "proper" people to the ship. But they chose to keep faking us out with empty BS about them returning to earth, that we knew was never going to happen. Such wasted potential.
they never had enough power for either way travel, that was why the 2 planets that blew up were so important, the whole thing of the wrong people was they were supposed to get the gate to work and then they were going to get the actual team and send them through but plot happened and Rush made them go through thinking they were going to earth lol
I watched one interview with Joe Flanigan and he talked about the end of SGA, it was mostly what you said but he also said that MGM had to make choice, since it was going bankrupt they wanted to look like active studio making new shows, so instead of going for Season 6 of SGA which would be safe bet they decided to do new different show - SGU, which unfortunately wasn't the big save they hoped for...
They cancelled it because they wanted to surf on the darker scifi wave of the mid 2000s that was first launched by Battlestar Galactica, so they put all of their resources into making Stargate Universe and it completely flopped because the tone was so different from the rest of the franchise, Stargate always had this campy feeling to it and it's what fans enjoyed about the show, it never took itself too seriously and the heroes would crack jokes at the villains, SGU throw all that away and gave it a super serious, no jokes allowed, "omg we're all going to die" tone. Most of the fanbase never forgave them for it.
SGU didn't kill the franchise. According to Joe Flannigan they were set to air the next season of Atlantis when their funding was cut at the last minute. In truth,, scify wanted to spend money on other projects which as we all know came and went faster than the water out of a firehose.
@@Predator42ID Lets not forget they also said on SG1 that the last season was the one season they DIDNT expect to be canceled and thought they would be renewed. We should have had at least one more SG1 season to wrap things up.
This just fed into one of the biggest debates in all of scifi. I was a big scifi channel fan in 2008, those other shows it was talking about were Battlestar Galactica and Caprica. The Stargate series, minus Universe always had better ratings than BSG. The BSG miniseries was of course the ratings pull for the channel, and it was a critical darling, but overall, the show was a flop. The reason they created Universe was a way to get the BSG like story telling on Stargate, which flopped. It was after this shows like Eureka and Warehouse 13 started, mainly to save money. Not bad shows, but they weren't Stargate.
They did the same thing to 'Eureka' that they did to the Stargate franchise. They also kind of did the same thing to 'BSG' and 'Caprica'. 'BSG' was meant to go seven seasons but they couldn't get any time of commitment so the creators/showrunners ended it after the fourth season. 'Eureka' was told they were going to have another season, crew and cast even arranged their lives around that fact and Universal pulled the offer. Universal was cutting costs across the board not just Stargate. In fact that's when the SyFy Channel had its extended low budget (lots of reality and poorly produced made for's aka TV movies) fare like 'Sharknado' and wrestling. And though those things did okay they made the channel less popular. Shows like 'Eureka' were popular and shows like 'BSG' garnered critical praise. Both shows performed very well on DVD (as did many of the shows of that era) however, that wasn't good enough for them to continue. CW and WGN are recent examples of networks making similar calculations to the detriment of the quality of scripted television shows.
SGA had a great run, five truly excellent seasons of classic sci fi television. That's something to be celebrated, almost as much as the iconic SG-1. The actors gave great performances, and Joe Flanigan was a solid competitor with RDA for standout main character. It would have taken a miracle to get more than five seasons. It was all about money, the economy, and MGM's pathetic descent into bankruptcy. More than five seasons for a cable tv production in those days was a big financial risk and very few shows were able to jump that barrier. Everyone involved knew that while the series was still in planning and before a single actor was hired.
I wish Amazon would let me buy SG-1 and Atlantis digitally instead of having them only available with Prime. I'm always worried Prime will lose them someday which wouldn't be an issue if I could just buy them. I hate this monthly rental service is better then selling products digitally idiocy which a lot of TV, movie, and game companies now support for some stupid reason.
SGU was not my cup of tea .. however .. both SG-1 and SGA were nothing short of legendary TV shows .. Hearing about Joe Flannigan's attempt to save it is really heartwarming, it's a damn shame it didn't work out. He was excellent and iconic as John Shepard, very close to legendary Richard Dean Anderson's Jack O'Neill .. and to be perfectly clear and fair .. both shows had excellent cast of main and side characters. And many people miss them to this day .. 🫡
@chrisk3127 rumor is they wanted to reboot Stargate instead of continuing the series. Brad Wright's script was a new show that would also answer the cliffhanger from SGU
It wasn't just the cancellation, it was the decision to green light Stargate Universe immediately following is cancelation. They ended the series in the middle of a strong run with an rushed ending that was empty.
One thing I always wondered about was why Stargate Universe did not have any puddle jumpers on the ship they could use to go to the different planets to gather the supplies they needed during the trip. Would have been a lot easier with the ships sensors and the ability to load a lot more stuff on the ship when returning to Destiny.
@@chrisk3127 And yet there is nothing in the shows that I heard that indicated that Destiny was launched before the city of Atlantis was built. Considering that Destiny had an advanced hyperspace drive that Atlantis and none of the Lantian ships that the humans in the Pegasus galaxy discovered had, I think it is clear that Atlantis already existed before Destiny was launched. And the war with the Wraiths afterward prevented them from upgrading the city's and the other ships' hyperdrives to the more advanced hyperdrive.
@@oldtimefarmboy617 Atlantis's hyperdrive was the most advanced they ever made, the reason they didn't put intergalactic drives on their warships was their warships weren't travelling between Earth and Atlantis they were only protecting planets from the wraith. I don't remember when they mentioned it but they mentioned the Destiny used a weird FTL tech (not hyperspace) and that it wasn't as fast and needed to cool down between jumps. atlantis went from earth to pegasus about 20 million BC meanwhile the destiny was launched about 50 million BC. they mention the destiny was sent out shortly after the seed ships which were literally building the stargate network meanwhile atlantis had a state of the art startgate, not to mention destiny would've had drone launchers if it was finished anywhere near atlantis
It feels like peak enshittification where the actors in the show with some investors were willing to buy the IP rights but the studio tells them that the studio can't afford lawyers to authorize the sale of the IP.
Atlantis and SG-1 were both good. Universe didn't feel like a Stargate show, and I couldn't get into it. I wish Atlantis had been given another season, but in a few years you will probably be able to just feed the episode titles to an AI model and have it output the episodes for you.

What really hurt Syfy channel was they started to broadcast non sci-fi shows. NBC Universal owned several other networks but decided to replace several good shows with things like wrestling. That drove a lot of viewers away to other networks.
I've been watching season six of Stargate sg-1 and man it still hilds up so well even today. It's just a fun and clean show. The best of Science fiction imo.
Here's an idea that I have thrown out into the internet any time new Stargate shows are discussed. Have it set in a future where stargate travel is no longer a secret. The show would focus on a search and rescue team not unlike the Coast Guard's Air Sea Rescue. The newly formed group's first big mission, rescue the people stranded on the Destiny.
This was my favourite Stargate series. I just didn't vibe much with sg-1 as much but when I saw this, I was soo into it. It was similar but like the vibe was so different and just Atlantis itself was just so cool. And another stranded crew thing like Voyager?! Sign me up! I also enjoyed Universe as well but it was slacking a bit and I still think it could have benefitted from getting past the growing pains.
Wait so the parent company didn't go to any bank anywhere and ask for a Derivative against the Canadian Dollar? That is a massive oversight by MGM for what should have been an easily avoided issue regardless of the economic circumstances at the time. This would have avoided the currency change issue completely.
People are doing good CGI in their basements now. It's gotta be cheaper. There's a whole fanbase that's been waiting almost 20 years, what are they waiting for? The Expanse wasn't a well known IP as this and they went all in.

@@_PatrickO Pray they don't reboot it using "younger, edgier versions of the team" like in 200. 🤣
@@solandri69 They should do what they did with sg-1. Launch a new show with a new cast. Flannigan can be higher ranking and in charge of a program with new sg teams with 20 years having gone by. When Atlantis landed in the Pacific Ocean, the ideas for the next season were endless!
I would recommend reading the Stargate Atlantis legacy books. They're not official however they pretty much stay in cannon when it comes to picking up where season 5 ended. If anything the books paint a much better alternate reality if you will, because reading the books is like an extra two or three seasons.

SGA was very good show and i was very sad when they cancelled it.
I preferred SG1 and Atlantis over SGU. SGU had its moments though.
imo when sgu was getting good it was almost over lol
too many "teenagers" and too much cabin fewer for my liking
Im still pissed off because of cancellation of SGA and SGU :/

Going to start my annual rewatch of SG1 tonight
at least we have star wars.... i mean star gate... i mean star trek.... i mean lord of the rings... i mean wheel of time... i mean the nightly news... i mean uhhh... what do we still have? oh right, each other.
I wish amazon would continue the stargates we love
The money that SGA raked in paid for a lot of other shows that were worthless, and money was sunk into the sinking ship of MGM - Joe Flanigan has publicly said exactly what happened - he was treated horribly, threatened, etc.
"2.2 million dollars per episode ".... and then I look at what Amazon got for dropping 10 million dollars an episode for their shows 😂😂😂
only 10 million? That's basically the same budget. Inflation so lets double that to 4.5 million, then cut episodes in half from 20 to 10 so double the budget again 9 mil an episode.
@WaterspoutsOfTheDeep the episodes are about the same length, so the 4.5 million would be the number to use.
We need more Stargate…
Joe Flanigan is up there with Richard Hatch in trying to revive their respective SciFi TV Series. Both iconic in their roles and loved/respected by fans.
I caught Stargate once SGU was on weekly and then went and binged SG1 and SGA. I find I enjoy SGA the most and think the creators used the SG1 experience to make an even better show to follow-up and fit a modern audience that had the technology to see episodes week to week via DVR so created a better experience as we saw with later SG1 seasons.
I complelety agree. Sgu.just coudnlt compare to what came before
SGA is definitely the peak for the franchise.
Thankfully, the star of Lucifer did find a way to save his show when it was about to be cancelled.
And yet 20 years later Stargate is more popular than ever
Even the general vibe that this series conveyed with its lighting and setting was simply depressing.
they were told they were doing a movie after s5 ended and made a season 6 script just in case it came back
Agreed
I agree it's the weaker of the 3 shows, but I was intrigued for season 3.. who were those powerful god-like beings?, did destiny survive the hypersleep journey..what about poor eli who didn't have a sleep pod?
How has this franchise not made a comeback yet

They shouldn't have done it. There was zero reason to do so. Should have been something with the ancients getting involved for the last episode with the Asgard giving technology because they are going into hiding or finding a new home into another galaxy and will contact earth down the road. Battlestar Galactica.
Babylon 5
Farscape should be in there as well!
If Amazon had any brains, they would create new stargate series based on the origins of the different aliens throughout the different shows. What they need to do is create a show that tells us the entire history between the Ori and the Ancients and then move on to the history of the G'ould, the Wraith, the travelers, origins and history of the Asgard and how many of them split off and went to the Pegasus galaxy and finally gives us a series actually showing who the Furlings are.
maybe a series of the 4 races alliance coming together and doing stuff (ancients, asgard, nox and furlings iirc)
That sounds a lot expensive, just for a few minutes of "The expanse" space battles cost millions, so we can imagine how it would be in a show with so many special effects plus all the other costs
Best case scenario you get 1 show with 2 seasons each with 10 episodes, then it ends because of costs.
Unless they give RoP treatment.
honestly now they have things like fallout to make their money in i doubt they will even consider it
I somehow skipped SG and need to watch it now. It's on Prime. Finally, a good reason to have Prime.

At that time I had stopped caring, tbh.
Atlantis was the crazy cliffhanger already.
Great job with the voice over work Dexter
Stargate SG1 was magic. Stargate Atlantis was a return to a beautiful dream. Stargate Universe was puke.
One of the things I most hated with the SyFY rebrand were those stupid fantasy/supernatural TV shows. That crap *_is not_* "sci-fi".
I bought the entire series, SG1 and SGA, through Vudu, which is fandango at home.

I’d have traded both seasons of SGU for one more season of SGA.

Hopefully, Amazon greenlight Brad Wright's new Stargate script
I thought they told him they didn't want it
@chrisk3127 rumor is they wanted to reboot Stargate instead of continuing the series. Brad Wright's script was a new show that would also answer the cliffhanger from SGU
I'm sure he publicly stated that they declined him and his script
It wasn't just the cancellation, it was the decision to green light Stargate Universe immediately following is cancelation.
They ended the series in the middle of a strong run with an rushed ending that was empty.
One thing I always wondered about was why Stargate Universe did not have any puddle jumpers on the ship they could use to go to the different planets to gather the supplies they needed during the trip. Would have been a lot easier with the ships sensors and the ability to load a lot more stuff on the ship when returning to Destiny.
destiny was way older than atlantis, they hadn't designed them yet which is why they had the ancient shuttles
@@chrisk3127
And yet there is nothing in the shows that I heard that indicated that Destiny was launched before the city of Atlantis was built.
Stargate Atlantis was soooo good, I wish it never ended.
If you could get hold onto the planed scripts for each episodes then yeah sure.
They never should have made Universe, it was just a rip off of Battlestar Galactica not Stargate.
I used to call SGU "Stargate: Voyager"
the time segment that stargate and atlantis filled on syfy was replaced by wrestling as well... that was the day i never watched directtv again, imagine replacing one of your most beloved shows with WWE
Axing Universe was the biggest mistake ever inflicted on this franchise.
SGU was my favorite
@@jessem8928 Es gibt halt leute mit geschmack und leute ohne
oder auch leute die keine ahnung haben was geschmack ist vor allem wenn man SGU möchte da kann man sich auch GSZS mit Cobra 11 angucken
I loved this show!!! It was my favorite out of all the Stargate shows.. it should have run at least two more seasons
It's such a tragedy. Great shows, bunch of viewer support, but both Atlantis and Universe got canceled on such infuriating cliffhangers. Disgusting
Of course now CAD is down to 70 cents US
At the rate it's dropping, they'll be filming after Xmas
I loved the Stargate movie and Atlantis and Universe. But no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get in the the Stargate SG-1 series.
It's a shame that one of the biggest sci-fi franchises now owned by Amazon is dead with no signs of life. I hope it'll return. After all those years we deserve it!
What really hurt Syfy channel was they started to broadcast non sci-fi shows. NBC Universal owned several other networks but decided to replace several good shows with things like wrestling. That drove a lot of viewers away to other networks.
Meh... Atlantis wasn't the same without Wier. I missed discount Sigourney Weaver when she was gone.
Absolutely loved this series. I was very disappointed it was canceled.
MGM wasted their money on other series.
Stargate Atlantis: The show from 20 years ago back when Jason Momoa was just "The new Teal'c" instead of Khal Drogo and Aquaman.
I'm just finished rewatching and man I miss Stargate
2.2 million per episode sounds so quaint compared to Rings of Power almost half a billion for season 1 shite.
SG1, SGA & SGU all need to come back!
im have been waiting for more stargate
I've been watching season six of Stargate sg-1 and man it still hilds up so well even today. It's just a fun and clean show. The best of Science fiction imo.
Here's an idea that I have thrown out into the internet any time new Stargate shows are discussed. Have it set in a future where stargate travel is no longer a secret. The show would focus on a search and rescue team not unlike the Coast Guard's Air Sea Rescue. The newly formed group's first big mission, rescue the people stranded on the Destiny.
The more popular a show becomes the more money the actors require... that usually kills every show.
this made me sad...i want sg to continue...FOREVER
As someone who pirated it with my roommates, I understand it.
Underrated that stargate was in the prime of pirating. In Europe you couldnt even watch it at all when it released.
That’s the other thing . Sometimes all these studios and corporations make it harder to watch something so people will illegally stream / pirate .
I have been a big fan of Stargate Atlantis even though the series felt like it was getting a little stale during the fourth season.
Loved Atlantis, but loved SG-1 more, but Universe was absolutely one of the best sci-fi series ever made and its cancellation was a travesty.
Es war eine Frace überhaupt son kack wie Universum zu machen
Atlantis was an epic show. Sadly the show still hasn’t been aired due to Amazon being a little slow
Atlantis was great. Really enjoyed it. Wish they continued.
I finished binging this a few months ago. I have it on Blu-ray and digital so I could watch at work.
That Homecoming book is quite a good read if you need another Stargate Atlantis fix.
