Reggae and dancehall have always, and will always, give thanks and praise to Africa. But now that afrobeats are reclaiming a piece of the pie, dancehall needs to stay true and not flinch. But it's never had a challenger like afrobeats. Granddad showing junior he still got it, seen. Dancehall is facing a growth opportunity. In two years, will the world know dancehall like it now knows afrobeat? It's not a competition, there's room for all. But as a "reggae/dancehall" dj, my set's filling up quick with afrotunes. Positivity, seen. Afrotunes are like early 90s hip hop. Tribe, De la Soul. Only their optimism is out of reach of American music producers, so this is not only here to stay, but guide us, once again, compassionately. Dancehall has the opportunity to rise to this and contribute. Belive me, TOK singing "lickle, byoy shut your b++×÷= mouth, your lickle gun shots we ain't talk'n about" gets me as hype as the next man. But, the youth needs the positive more so.
