      @hannahebeling  6 місяців тому +6

      Yes! If you really do have $0 to start, you can try your hand at a place like Redbubble or teepublic, but to really be profitable on Etsy you need to have a small cushion to start.

      @@xaivang9106I’ve attempted selling on Etsy for years (handmade crafts, before. I’m only now starting POD). I never had any capital to start. I would say that any amount, even $20, will be helpful. To get started, Etsy charges 20 cents per listing, and they must be renewed regularly. I’ve not made any sales, so I don’t know how that goes. I’ve merely paid Etsy repeatedly for the privilege of listing my items on their site.

    100% agree with the upfront costs! I found myself in a bind when, unexpectedly, I got a custom t-shirt order for a large group (they wanted 75 shirts) and I didn’t have enough to front the production cost. Had to wait a couple days til payday. Kind of embarrassing, but a good lesson learned.

      @@hannahebeling This is one of the first things I thought about, and that is why I chose not to start my biz at the most lucrative time of the year, Q4. I was terrified of the amount of sales I could potentially get as my available credit card balance is quite low, under $1000. I wanted to target personalized Christmas group shirts, but this would add up quickly if I were to start selling. So, reluctantly, I decided I was better off growing into it as my credit card balance would allow, which is to start in Q1. And if Etsy held funds or even shut the shop down after the orders went through Printify, that would be very bad too, but in Q1 it would be doable. A lot to consider.

      Dang so, add my Platinum Card to Printify and Etsy? To both site or just Printify?

    • @just__dave
      @just__dave 3 місяці тому

      @@JonnyTec You'll need a payment method on both ends. For Printify you'll just need a debit or credit card. For Etsy, you'll need a credit or debit card for fees and other charges, but you will also need an actual bank account for them to deposit funds into. I opened a free checking account with Intuit Quickbooks for this purpose, which also gives you a debit Visa. I use the same account for both Etsy and Printify.

    Great video, Hannah! Your cross-niching idea is awesome and I am definitely going to utilize that! That's also good to know about not worrying about people copying your designs. I have had that in a product I sell on a shop that is not POD, and that is custom mailbox decals. Someone has exactly copied a couple of my good sellers and I was so upset, but I can see what you're saying. I didn't see theirs until like the 6th or 7th page and mine are on the 1st page. Hey Hannah! I'm experiencing my first proper Christmas season with regular sales between 7-20 per day and OMG the customer service aspect is intense: out-of-stock items, missing tracking numbers, late items, lost items, orders by mistake, Printify Live Chat marathons (+ a few personalized orders)🤯I spend all day reacting and talking to customers or Printify Live Agents and trouble-shooting. How do high-volume sellers even handle 40-100 daily sales without burnout? How do you take a day/weekend off or manage your shop when you get sick. Is it possible to make this sustainable and scale-able without becoming exhausting? Grateful for any advice❤

      Not that I am a participant-expert, but it seems to me that, unless you have a name associated with a specific topic/niche, no one is looking for you. They are looking for a product. Realizing that was like getting rescued from a collapsed building. After that, ten minutes of perusing Esty store names, and I decided on positive concept, easy to pronounce and spell, and no hipster A&B names. However, the last one works well for Harry & David and a whole lot of other stores. It's just not for everybody.

      It is my understanding that uploading the same design to different platforms MAY cause some issues with some of those platforms. I've seen that some sellers had their sales on Etsy tank when they uploaded their designs to their own Shopify store. Etsy really wants their listings to be unique to Etsy and may think you are copying others when their bots find the same design elsewhere. I don't how other platforms deal with this. It may also be a little unpredictable how your google search results work if you are on multiple platforms. What you want to rank on top may not rank on top.
      That being said it may work great, but being aware of the possible issues is probably a good thing to help eliminate pain points if it doesn't work out.
