If you look up “Badass” in the dictionary, they’ll be a picture of Alanna in her Skull T-shirt showing off her new ink, whilst chewing on a Camel Bollock at 10am!!!
In Australia we used to have a lollie called ‘Fags’ which were the long white sweet with one end coloured red to simulate a lit cigarette. They were changed to’Fads’ and lost the red end colouring.
There used to be a brand of drink called Top Deck, which was a low alcohol mixer drink, Beer Shandy, Lager & Limeade, Cider Shandy, these were available to buy at corner stores, newsagents etc with a 2% alcohol content, it was marketed primarily to children 😁 And the cans even carried the Royal Warrant of Appointment of the Queen, like Twinings Tea or Cadburys.
@@EaterOfBaconSandwiches I believe they were 0.5% because they were sold as a soft drink to kids. However things may have been different back then (less strict regulations) so I wouldn't fully rule it out. I'm going to investigate this because I used to love them.

Those candy sticks that Canadian bairns pretended were cigarettes? When I was a wee laddie, many, many years ago in Scotland they were actually marketed as 'sweet cigarettes'! They even had one end dyed red for the full effect. It seemed perfectly normal at the time... Edited just to say that I literally burst out laughing when you discovered the liquid in the camel bollock. Always worth watching an Adventures and Naps video right to the end- that's where the good tuff is!
Love the video. There's nothing I love more than when a content creator shows their appreciation to their audience, and as a viewer it makes me feel so happy to feel valued just for watching your videos.
They used to have one end coloured red to look like it was alight. I also remember minty chewy sticks that were covered in paper printed to look _exactly_ like cigarettes with the brown filter on one end.
Haha brilliant Alanna, the facial expressions say it all. I remember the video with the scampi and lemon Nik Naks and how much you liked them despite the smell from the packet being like "a dirty fish shop"! I've been a follower of your channel ever since...
When I was young (1960) they actually had a thing called "Candy Cigarettes". They were in a cigarette type packet and one end of the white stick was coloured red I guess to simulate the lit cigarette. This was in BC Canada. Cheers ~ulrich

I remember 'Lucky Bags' back in the 50s and 60s, They were full of stuff like that - plus a toy! - The toy was usually rubbish, but once I got a pack of miniature playing cards. Me and my mates played card games with them for several years, in our dinner time breaks at school.

Hi Alanna, that was so funny , Camel Balls 😅 I remember watching that early video when you tried Scampi & Lemon Nik Naks btw. Those white candy sticks , used to be "candy cigarettes" with a red tip ,flip top box and a small card of a cartoon character (real cigarettes often came with a card featuring wildlife or vintage cars etc). Hi Alana, Thanks for another entertaining video. The blue raspberry rip roll reminds me of a candy I had when I was a kid called Fruit by the Foot. But if I remember correctly, I think it came in a plastic tape dispenser so it wouldn’t accidentally unroll into a big mess. I also ate Fruit Roll Ups as well. They unrolled into a sheet with perforated shapes like stars on it, that you would pull out from the sheet and eat, then you would be left with a stencil that you could use to draw shapes with, or just eat it. I always just ate it and I didn’t know anyone who actually used it as a stencil even though it was advertised on tv for that use.
I remember thinking in that video that I was sad for you that you tried the other two flavours but didn't try the rib n saucy cos you thought it wouldn't taste good. It's the best flavour and so I am glad that you finally got around to trying it!
I always enjoyed a nice bubblegum cigar when I was a kid. It was cigar shaped bubblegum jsyk. Our local grocery used to have them. You can find them on Amazon and some candy shops have them.
I remember that too. Really strange marketing that wouldn't happen these days but they were nice. I tried some a few years back and they tasted terrible.
I luv all Nik Naks, but my fave has to be nice n spicy. With the Bobbys crisps, I usually luv anything bbq flavour, but those sticky bbq ones I am not a big fan of. The bbq mix ones Bobbys do which have different type of shapes in them are amazing though. Also luv the Bobbys prawn cocktail twists.
You are very young but, when I was a kid the candy sticks were actually called sweet cigarettes and had a red colour on the end to show it was lit. I bought them for the free picture cards inside, usually of footballers.
I actually once used those candy sticks as prop cigarettes in a school drama lesson 😆 Also, don't know if they still exist, but we used to have Fruit Winders. They had a cartoon strip on the paper, so you'd have to eat the sweet to read the comic. I think there were double flavour ones too (2 half width strips on the same roll).
I hope your dentist appointment is slightly cheaper than your last one! (I rewatched that video only yesterday!) I also love your accidentally brilliant comic timing! Love this vid! PS: I immediately went and checked your knick knack video, and to my relief saw I had previously liked it, so I know I've been around awhile lol. And you tried the Rib and Saucy back in 2018, right after the fish ones XD
That was a fun video. When I was young a long long time ago, the candy sticks had red end so it looked like the cigarette was alight. We also had sweet tobacco, shreds of coconut covered in a brown sugary coating to make it look like rolling tobacco.
2:45 We used to have a genuine cigarette lookalike that even had a pink colour on the end to simulate being lit ! Busybodies put paid to those. I also seem to recall a chocolate cigarette that had paper wrapped around it like a 'roll up'. God the Seventies were fun.
Just I’d like to say we had those sweets in the late 50s when I was a young lad so there’s nothing new I thought they had gone out of business by now but obviously not
Hey Alanna, I drank a lot of shandyade as a kid a few decades ago. I think it was the fact it made me feel grown up and felt like drinking beer! lol Hopefully you got to taste a wham bar? They were big in my secondary school in the 80's! Yes old fart I am!! 😁 The candy sticks I ate as a kid were rolled up chocolate.
Bobby's do some nice stuff. Salt and vinegar twists, and a lattice patterned, double sided puffed crisp (best way I can describe it sorry) that comes in Curry or BBQ flavour. They also used to fo a chocolate covered chew bar that kind of reminded me of Texan bars.
In my day those candy sticks were called Sweet Cigarettes and the end was coloured red. You could also get Sweet Tobacco, Chocolate Cigars and Liquorice Pipes.
Was I the only one that used to try to eat the fruit roll type things without using my hands? Pretty sure it's the childhood equivalent of trying to peel an egg in one piece 🥚
Rocking those tattoo's Alanna ! 😁 Looks like you had a once in a lifetime experience with the Camel balls 😂. I used to like candy sticks, but haven't had them for years - some could be real tooth breakers - Have to hunt them out again
Nice vid. Camel ball sweets!!! Never seen those, I'll have to keep an eye out for them 🙂 And the way you switched between 'shop', and 'store', I thought you were going through a nationality crisis, haha.
You should try the Malt beer/Malt drinks that are available. The sweet black drink that despite the name is alcohol free, that you usually can only get in corner shops or minimarts. Usually they are in little bottles, but sometimes also in cans. And Malt Loaf, Soreen or another brand. That's a taste experience. Quite nice sliced with butter, and alarmingly cheap for the calorie content.
we had a school blazer as part of the uniform, and we used to put salted peanuts (from the school vending machine) it the inside pocket to eat in class!! we'd even ask to go to the loo (bathroom to you lol) to get more! Where did the node 'stud' go to btw?
Drinking shandy eating nik naks, and enjoying it you’ve been here too long. you used to be able to get canned shandy (shandy bass) with a the smallest alcohol content possible but as kids you felt so cool!!
Apart from the Nik Naks (used to really like 'em) I really hadn't heard of any of the others, although you're right about Barrs drinks. I bet if you went back in 3-6 months to the same corner store 90% of the snacky things would have changed, and that's the beauty of it. Thanks again Alanna, top video.
Don't you just love our girl, tries something weird...pulls the same face you pull when you find something unspeakable on the sole of your shoe, then takes another bite! 🤣 Alanna now knows what 'indelible' means in relation to stick on tatts..arrggghh...they won't wash off! 🤣🤣🤣🤣...I sooo look forwards to these posts. 🥰
I keep imagining the marketing meeting. They’re all sitting around the boardroom table and the Marketing Director says “we need a new product for next March’s pre-Spring sales push. Who’s got ideas.” Everyone tosses in boring safe thoughts that don’t get anyone excited but no one gets sacked either. Then Damien, who joined the company only 5 months ago says “what about small brown wrinkled ball-shaped things with a disgusting tasting liquid inside a hard outer shell that you only get once you’ve been sucking them for 3 minutes. Let’s call them Camel Balls and shape them like they are camel testicles and have two in a pack”. Can you imagine the stunned silence then? Then everyone starts saying what a good idea and the idea takes off.
@@shirleyz7400 there’s another marketing meeting I always chuckle when I imagine it. Drummers will know the stuff. It’s a sticky substance they put on their hands so in the heat of a fast song and the humidity of a crowded club their drumsticks don’t fly from their hand, zoom across the crowded dance floor and take someone’s eye out So the team are trying to develop a marketing plan for this substance. They are suggesting names for this stuff There are half a dozen bottles on the table and again everyone is suggesting boring but safe names that don’t excite anyone Suddenly, out of the blue, young Damien comes up with the name that’s now world famous in the music business. This is absolutely true folks, it’s an essential part of a rock”n”roll drummer’s equipment. Damien says “I know! Let’s call it ‘Gorilla Snot’!”
Oh my! I'm crying laughing at your "Camel Balls" reaction! I could think of a number of highly inappropriate comments here, but it's probably best if I don't! Love your unique style - I've been here since the Scampi & Lemon NikNaks episode. Bit surprised that you haven't reprised the Double Decker taste test from back in the day. We used to get a shandy drink called Shandy Bass as kids. I was surprised on my last visit that Shandy was still for sale at the local Chip Shop. I had to get one of course. I also tried the bitter shandy version but didn't enjoy that one at all.
Bass Shandy? That's rolling back the years Thess days in the Pub I drink either Lager Shandy or Bitter Shandy Both do look like real Pints with a head on them. My other Tipple is Mild never heard of that being a shandy .When I visited Ireland The bar staff had never heard of "Mild" But were Ok with Shandy 😕 Barrs most famous big selling Soft drinks both do not have the Barrs Tradename and Alanna ? Apologies if you have already featured any of these on your videos already, but I for 1 would love to see your reaction to a few of our other wierd, though perhaps slightly more well known snacks- Dandelion and Burdock flavoured drink, Rhubarb and Custard or Blackcurrant and Liquorice flavoured boiled hard candies, Sherbert Fountains/ Lemons, Catherine Wheels...
I think Nik Naks are a bit like Marmite, even within their own flavours. You either love them or hate them. I love those Rib 'n' Saucy ones. I have eaten far too many over the years. Scampi and Lemon on the other hand, is like they just put a used nappy in the bag and said, 'That'll do'. ;)
Great video, but the blue raz roll...closer to a fruit by the foot and not a fruit roll up. Roll ups were like a rolled up paper looking thing made of fruit puree with shapes kinda cut into it. God...why do I remember this, lol.

You put the dabbity on! Sheer class. Thanks for the laugh.
Lost for words! Just brilliant! Thanks
Always loved Scampi & Lemon Nik Naks... I've forgotten about those (into Walkers Prawn Cocktail atm!) ...I will hunt some out tomorrow.
Loved seeing the various treats/snacks. BTW when I was a kid the candy sticks were actually called Popeye Candy Cigarettes
Thanks so much! I remember Popeye sticks being a thing in Ontario, too!
Speaking of vintage A+N I remember the one with the Moose Juice, now you've moved up to camel ball liquid. God bless Alanna's taste tests 😁
2:45 We used to have a genuine cigarette lookalike that even had a pink colour on the end to simulate being lit ! Busybodies put paid to those. I also seem to recall a chocolate cigarette that had paper wrapped around it like a 'roll up'. God the Seventies were fun.
Just I’d like to say we had those sweets in the late 50s when I was a young lad so there’s nothing new I thought they had gone out of business by now but obviously not
I remember the chocolate ciggies in the 90s. 5 year old me felt like such a badass in my tiny dungarees, sunglasses, nibbling on a choccy cig
😎
The chocolate ones came in a paper packet, just like a real cigarette packet
Of COURSE there's liquid inside! They're Camel Balls!
I was wondering if the packet would say "may contain nuts"...
The ends used to be red for the popey's sticks...then they took that away. Ahh the goodies from the dépanneur. 🍬
Hey Alanna,
I drank a lot of shandyade as a kid a few decades ago. I think it was the fact it made me feel grown up and felt like drinking beer! lol
Hopefully you got to taste a wham bar? They were big in my secondary school in the 80's! Yes old fart I am!! 😁
The candy sticks I ate as a kid were rolled up chocolate.
"Lemonade" in Britain is not lemon juice and sugar but a fizzy lemon-flavoured soda!
For the USA/CANADA: British "lemonade" is closer to SPRITE or 7-UP
I do love these sort of videos. Great content Alanna.
The candy sticks I too remember pretending they were cigarettes. Some brands were even called candy cigarettes when I was a kid.
In my day those candy sticks were called Sweet Cigarettes and the end was coloured red. You could also get Sweet Tobacco, Chocolate Cigars and Liquorice Pipes.
Crazy!
Was I the only one that used to try to eat the fruit roll type things without using my hands?
Pretty sure it's the childhood equivalent of trying to peel an egg in one piece 🥚
Oh my god 😂
7:10 that seamless edit when you noticed you had a traffic cone on your head. Too much Alcohol makes Allanahanahnahnabanana a burpy girl.
Rocking those tattoo's Alanna ! 😁 Looks like you had a once in a lifetime experience with the Camel balls 😂. I used to like candy sticks, but haven't had them for years - some could be real tooth breakers - Have to hunt them out again
Thanks so much for watching!!
Another great session, oh the agony what memories!
When you said, while shovelling Nik Naks, "I've grown a lot since then", I thought "you'll grow a lot more if you keep eating them!"
My wife got a gift from a Canadian friend, it was soap-flavoured gum. That's right, soap-flavoured. Strangely, it wasn't bad.
we had a school blazer as part of the uniform, and we used to put salted peanuts (from the school vending machine) it the inside pocket to eat in class!! we'd even ask to go to the loo (bathroom to you lol) to get more!
Hiya. Well, that's the Gluten Allergy excuse out the window! Stay safe. All the best to you.
I do remember that early taste test episode! You and A&N have come along way in relatively short period of time...🇬🇧🇨🇦
Thanks so much Steve!!
OMG, and I didn’t think A+N taste tests could get any better 😂🤣
Thank you!!
The camel balls are hilarious! This is a must to give to your friends.🤣🤣🤣
@@afpwebworks I love your imagination! 👍🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@afpwebworks 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Alana, the corner shop packed with kids, get yerself up north east, only two kids at a time allowed in shops (kids tend to shoplift up this way)
Haha, this really cracked me up! I have never seen those camel balls before. Think I'll give them a miss though!
That's a particular favourite of mine! 🙂
My other Tipple is Mild never heard of that being a shandy .When I visited Ireland The bar staff had never heard of "Mild" But were Ok with Shandy 😕
Barrs most famous big selling Soft drinks both do not have the Barrs Tradename and Alanna ? I think you'll enjoy both
They are Tizer en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tizer (ex North west England recipe 1924 )
And the legendary Iron-Bru ex 1901 (Motto Made in Scotland from Girders) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irn-Bru
Nooo you also need to try space raiders/skips/frazzles/wheat crunchies - all crisps! 💜💜
Scampi and Lemon on the other hand, is like they just put a used nappy in the bag and said, 'That'll do'. ;)
Respect to an avowed savoury snack kind of person for taste testing sugary snacks.
🙏🏻
lmao @ the bbq thing... never saw them, will look for them :P
Great video, but the blue raz roll...closer to a fruit by the foot and not a fruit roll up. Roll ups were like a rolled up paper looking thing made of fruit puree with shapes kinda cut into it. God...why do I remember this, lol.
Barr makes not only Shandyade, but also your "favorite" Scottish drink Irn-Bru
