I had depression for a couple of years, it was circumstantial; an accumulation of stress and it chickened me out.
I haven’t felt such darkness ever.
I became afraid of myself, my own thoughts.
So, she’s a champ. Very strong woman.
What people without depression don't realize is that it takes great mental strength to take your life. It's not as cut and dry as most people think, nor is it selfish.
@@daisygirl1217 agreed, i used to be one of those ignorant, naïve people who saw it as a selfish act, until i suffered my own mental breakdown and battle with depression and anxiety…everyone’s reasons are personal, we will never know what it was like for her.. i don’t want to glorify it, but i do want to respect that whatever decision she chose, she really did try to fix herself for so long.

@@wonderwoman5528 Do you know that for sure? I mean, reading between the lines now of the statement put out by her daughters that is what it sounds like. And she always talked about her constant ideation when she felt very low about jumping off a bridge near her home. But usually when people are as deeply depressed as she seemed to be, they don't have the strength or energy to follow through. Whatever the case, it's desperately sad and I am so sorry. I will keep praying for her today.

I JUST watched a few interviews this past week including this 1 of Naomi talking about her battle with suicidal depression. Then to hear the tragic news of her death today a day before she was to be inducted into the Country music Hall of Fame. What a loss. @@lorimiller4301 I went back and watched the docuseries that was on the OWN network...and in the 3rd one Naomi said something profound...She said she longed to be acknowleged by her mother...and that no amount of therapy..love..or drugs could make that longing better. I wonder if that vast difference between fame and fortune...and that void...was the trigger. It probably was way more complex than that...but SHE SAID she had a desperate longing for that.💔

I to have had depression, anxiety, rls, situational circumstances I had absolutely no control about, and other issues that required medications.
But never, ever, ev-er, did I think about ending it.

I didn't know until just now. Even as a Lil black boy I loved all great music. My mom and I just watched them on the CMA while we talked about my mental health and now this. I never knew she even struggled. Age didn't help money success solid family....woooow. 😔

Yes unfortunately I know it's true. My two girls want me to see a therapist but I tell them, I refuse to bring up others in my life that caused destruction. I deal with it because how can someone help someone that's not been through it. This is why I'm so hurt for Naomi. God hold her children tight during all this.

Agreed. I battled suicidal depressions from 5 years old to my mid 30s. Other family members often exhorted me to take the step due to their narcissistic personality.

This is the only interview I've seen with Megyn that was tolerable. Most of the time she was a barely toned down version of her old Fox News self. She was the most incompatible person possible for a morning talk show. Dumbest decision NBC made outside of firing Ann Curry.
People like her, who are so kind and empathetic, understand how dark this world can be. Is it really a disease to feel the weight of the darkness? Especially because she experienced it first hand? I’ve never been suicidal, but I understand her perspective. An innocent child learned her lesson. She learned what this world is capable of and she carried that with her till the end.
Yes, it is a disease. It's genetic. I've been failing at suicide attempts since I was 16. My daughter died by suicide 7 yrs ago but depression and suicide attempts go back to my maternal great grandfather and paternal grandmother. It is a brain chemical imbalance.
I didn’t know anything about her book and these interviews until she passed. Makes me sad. She seemed so genuine and friendly; she was also trying to understand herself, her disease, and educate others. There’s a TV movie about the Judds where there’s a scene where her character says that award shows cause her to have panic attacks. Maybe the Hall of Fame awards were the final straw.
She hung on for so long.
I saw that movie and her horrible young life. So sad.
She is seemingly so warm and witty and an all around well intentioned person. The comments below are rather mind boggling and quite mean.

She left her husband and took the two girls away to build a career. Now all these things happen before they hit it big....and I feel sorry for her. But she’s an entertainer through and through, so I’d take her book as that. Entertainment. Everything ends with “read my book”.

It's good to read that people are not chastising her for being selfish for taking her own life. She was a strong, confident women who suffered for decades. Not many people can handle that for that long.
I hate when people say, "She seemed to have it all." Of course, they refer to material possessions. Money makes life easier, but not better. A person can be surrounded by others and stuff, but still be lonely.
Money also makes it easier to isolate and drop out of life....

I struggle with clinical depression. It upsets me when I see people like Naomi Judd, Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain take their own lives. They were so attractive, talented, and loved. It scares me. 😔
It’s just so debilitating. It is invisible to other people and so isolating.
This illness is terrifying!!..she had her faith, love, support, top doctors, psychiatrists, experts, every medicine, and supposed best treatments and still none of that helped...that dark place she talks about is like a demonic hold on your brain and soul, and it just tears at your heart to where you are so sad with no hope at all...unless you have it, you cannot understand it. Abuse just does something to psyche(human soul, mind and spirit)....but she is healed now, Praise Jesus!! He took her by the hand and led her to the promise land...what a day, glorious day that was for her...Prayers to all those who are mourning, and to all of us 43 million who are struggling everyday to keep our heads above water.

It is Demonic! That's why there's no medical cure. We have to face this if we ever want to end it. The Demon passes through the intimate act. Then the victim has to fend for themselves and either give in or fight against it.

I have what she had, and when I learned of how much love and support she had in her life to compare to mine where i pretty much have no one, made me feel as though I must be pretty strong to be still holding on,. Yet, I don't feel or think that she was not strong, not at all.. She held on as long as she could and I can imagine that by the time you hit 75 and you are still suffering so hard with this awful disease, it's time to go. I know that will be the same for me too.

I thank her for her braveness and willingness to speak on this subject publicly. I'm a 58 year old divorced woman who lives with mental illness. It's people like Naomi that help us to press on...and remember that where not alone in our struggles. To Ashley and Wynonna, so sorry for your loss but please know that your mother going public with her own illness was a true blessing for many if us

I am so proud of Naomi to come forth sharing this as it can be an incurable disease. There should not be a stigma around it as we all will be depressed at one time or another, whether you have lost a loved one, friend or family, a compassionate person, lost a job, career, disability, finding out you have an incurable disease, chronic pain, isolation which I believe social media adds to it especially in our youth, assaulted, environment etc. etc. very few people will go through life never feeling it, but with some it is chronic due to genetics and environment.
We should help those that are suffering, with this and stop being afraid or ashamed of it.
Losing Naomi is a great loss, but I have to say she was a strong woman to fight through this for so many years.

I had the wonderful opportunity to have met Naomi and Wynonna on more then a few occasions, the type of work I was involved with allowed it in addition to many other public figures. The Judds were very pleasant, accepting, warm, easy to speak with, after all people in public eye are human just like us, difference is their job entails performing, more well known due to the nature of the job. The performance permits to take us away but if just for a moment in time to another world of forgetting our troubles, it does the same for the performer as well. Music is an exchange of energy of emotions between artist and audience, a slice of heaven where everything in the outside world is forgotten, a moment of blissful opportunity for us to be in touch with our feelings, sometimes the song touches a spot where we release tears. Music is emotions applied to lyrics, tones and melody, it's birthed out of emotions. Everything we do and create is birthed out of emotions.
My greatest hopes is we never forget, we don't ever have amnesia from what she struggled immensely with like millions of people do. The stigma of mental health has to be stopped. The brain can become unwell just like any other organ in our body. When a person is born with a heart defect, their lifestyle has to be different then a person born with a healthy heart, if not their life expectancy is shorter. If a persons family has chronic mental health in their gene pool, if they're exposed to traumatic events or succumb to trauma, likelihood of triggering setting off imbalance of chemicals in the brain and effecting central nervous system is high, sometimes it can never rebalance, even through extensive treatments, they're resistant to treatment.
Just as with a family with inheritance of diabetes, a family member can carry the gene however if they live a healthy lifestyle, odds are greater in their favor for gene not triggering.
If we knew a person had diabetes, we're not going to oblige in asking them if they want a piece of cake, we'd know it's harmful. If we evolve to a place where we can speak openly about mental health, we can arrive to a place a person can freely mention they have temporary or chronic struggles therefore it will change the approach in how we speak to them. If the cake would effect the diabetic, the nature of words we use and our tone would be accommodating to the person struggling with mental health. The word mental is a variation of the mind, it does not mean crazy, health is to do with condition. There's physical and mental health.
What would happen if a person felt shameful sharing with anyone they had a broken bone, they felt so utterly shameful they kept it a secret, because of the shame they didn't want to visit a doctor? It goes untreated, means no healing. In able to freely share, they'll get advice from a family member, friend or even a stranger. They'll be concerned about how it happened, how much pain they're in, and advise to go to the ER or doctors. By not having "shame", they're freely able to share, therefore able to have support and treatment from a doctor. Family and friends will offer support to help with necessities if they're immobilized. As long as there's "shame"/a stigma around mental health, it means a person doesn't share the thoughts they struggle with, don't express their feelings, they either hide as much as they can, either behind a smile or behind closed doors, which follows not seeing a mental health doctor, equals no treatment, which could manifest into decline.
Addictions which is self medicating to numb and escape feeling certain emotions, is from burying trauma, in addition trying to cope with life stressors, "not in all cases", sometimes it's rooted in people that have a very sensitive disposition, they're sensitive to energy, they feel extremely deeply, it's the nature of whom they are. There's some coping tools they can adopt to help navigate in the unfortunate reality that our species can be harsh, but their personality won't alter, it's part of their gene pool. We wouldn't want to try and strip someone of who they are, it's like breaking into a persons house and stealing.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with being sensitive, as far as feeling deeply goes, there is a problem if our sensitivity is projected in a way it inflicts harm upon another person. Feeling deep in this world, having sensitivity is perceived as a weakness for most part, because our species is still operating from the survivalist mode, the mentality of the strong survive, survivalist perception is "strength" (most popular and powerful, wealth, status, most awards, most intelligent, talented, most attractive, biggest house, etc....), we should not ever have to prove we're worthy to be loved or to survive based on accolades, appearance, degrees, etc...., it's superficial, not genuine in any capacity, the survivalist paradigm BRINGS out the worse in our species, which in turn inflicts trauma on each other. We were raised more on how to survive rather then raised on how to love. We've been living on a stage for generations performing, scared to show reality of ourselves, out of fear survival. We're overly competitive against each other due to fear for survival. Until we evolve into freely accepting our "humnaness" completely = able to discuss our burdens, trauma, our struggles, our shadow side/our flaws, our insecurities birthed from wounds, etc...., we'll not be able to heal collectively, therefore not evolve. Healing is done when we share, when we heal or at least manage the wounds our wounds will not project onto others, if they do bleed, at least we'll have the tools to resolve issues or reconcile. I understand fully it's frightening sharing the most intricate and delicate parts of ourselves within a species that perceives sharing the most human aspects of ourselves as weak, fear being taken advantage of, or looked at strangely, fear of rejection or abandoned from family, friends or society, but if want a healthier and loving species we'll have to. Our forefathers and mothers took leaps of faith and big risks before us to get us where we are today, we're here because of them, and one day future generations we'll be thanking us for taking risks. I'm not implying for us just to share with anyone, we must not do anything we feel will put us in harm's way, it be mental or physical, and also certainly must not do it if we're not ready, but if ever ready and safe to do so would be wonderful, if not ever ready it's ok too, doesn't mean weakness whatsoever, it's a personal right and choice, there's reasons known to person they don't feel comfortable doing so.

Where there's love, we will survive. The old survivalist mode needs to be said goodbye to. When there's love it opens the door to our humnaness. It will provide to us the experience and emotions just like we do when surrounded together before the music.

I understand and believe now, the words "people don't pretend they have depression, they are depressed and pretend they are okay". So please remember that next time it feels like someone is just not themselves...they could be reaching out silently.
I had a patient once who was absolutely gorgeous, but because she was getting older, didn't feel it. Nothing I could say would change her mind. She went home that night and committed suicide. I noticed as time went along that more people (women mostly) who had once been beautiful had the most difficulty with aging. They seemed lost without their good looks to provide them with meaning.
Continued... appearance. I used to be disappointed that I was just average in the looks department. As I age, I am content. I don't have to busy myself with keeping up, with what wasn't there in the first place, lol

That can be true for some. Im 63, sometimes it is hard because I always had a nice face and skin. Not as many wrinkles as people my age, but age spots. Plus I weigh about 60 pounds more then I did just 10 yrs. ago.
@@sharoncrawford3042 Never having had the blessings of being born beautiful, I instead focused my attentions on education and career. Did that spare me the heartbreak of ageing? I'm afraid not. Losing one's looks or career can be equally devastating.
It was shocking and sad to hear of her death, and then to learn this beautiful talented woman was in so much pain, that the only way out was to take her own life. It's heart breaking. Rest peacefully Naomi. My condolences to the family for this tragic loss.

Yes depression is very real I have friends who have told me about but it destroys you to a point.

I seriously think most people have it a lit worse than her. I fail to see what she has to be so 'depressed ' about. She has gotten a lot of breaks mist people haven't. She is self-absorbed

I don't want to sound glib, but I used to have severe depression where I could not get out of bed and severe anxiety/paranoia where I would walk into a Mall food court and feel like everyone was watching me. I grew up with gender dysphoria in a Conservative home so I thought the past bullying and PTSD was the cause of my depression. But at the age of 36, I went to Vegas and ate Buffets for 4 days (Eggs, Prime Ribs, Crabs) and the depression lifted. I am turning 50 this year and it is difficult to tell Vegans that eating Meat saved my last 14yrs of my life. Pharma Drugs just made things far worse for me. Considering I already had body dysphoria and eating disorders, I am not sure how drugs that turn people bloated is going to cure my Depression. I am often times amazed that I can now speak in public or meet new people and not have that crippling anxiety.

@@laurenpaterson3475 I am implying that Anorexia and eating disorders is not always a mental vanity disorder and treating it as though there is a chemical imbalance in the brain with Pharma Drugs can be misguided for many people. Mental Health Doctors rarely will look at nutrition. And Doctors in general nowadays believe that Plant Based is the one and only prime diet for humans. They instantly demonize anyone (Tom Cruise for example) who implies that depression and other mental illness could be a physical and nutritional disorder. Many people are having success on Carnivore Diet, but people are still unsure if it is avoiding sugars or the processed oils or even plants in general that is healing them.

Speaking from experience: You don’t want to die. You want the mental pain inside to stop and it feels like death is the only way. I attempted several times until one day I asked God to remove it for me. I didn’t know He could but he did. I just cried out to God..”God I hurt, God I hurt.” Everyday until eventually one day I just stopped and one day I realize that constant mental emotional pain was gone! I’m glad I didn’t succeed in taking my life because I would’ve missed out on the love of my life that came 1 1/2 years later. I’m getting married in 2 months. Jesus can fix your heart and mind. Nothing is impossible for God.❤️

She was a music icon at one point and was sccessful, amassed great fortune from music, was so talented and beautiful. Its difficult to believe what she had gone thru in her life. Her suffering from hepatitis probably brought some stigma, but its a curable disease. But my god the things she had to go thru. I pray that both her girls will do alright thru all of this. RIP this is such a violent world for someone so beautiful.

Such a brave and strong woman. So are her daughters. The stigma of mental illness needs to stop. Hopefully people like Naomi and her legacy are helping with educating the public about it. Depression is definitely NOT feeling sorry for oneself or just about sadness. It's an imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain and therefore physical, just like any other illness. No one, NO ONE asks for it. Prayers are with Ashley, Wynnona and family ❤️

I’m going thru this now with my daughter, I’m so emotional and trying not to be fearful.
If you believe in God, pray for Him to heal them and memorize scripture and recommend they do the same. Prayer and God's word is very healing. Also getting them great counselors will help too. The more they talk about their pain/depression, the closer they'll get to healing. God bless!!
I have been through this and a ton more than anyone else knows bc of narcissistic abusers in my family and their associates. I feel incredibly bad for these ladies bc I know how they feel and I pray that they can heal.
After all Naomi went through I believe when you have time to think about everything you've gone through it makes you feel so deeply sad could a sadness that makes you loose the will to live so sad RIP beautiful lady 🙏 🌹 😭
