- Episode 3 of the Pilbara series - Chasing Adventure
We spend 3 weeks exploring, 4WD'ing and camping in remote areas of Western Australia's Pilbara region in search of true adventure.
In this episode we leave Carawine Gorge in the remote east Pilbara and start making our way to Marble Bar - Australia's Hottest Town!
We quickly discover how soft the dry river bed are in the region and explore an oasis in the desert.
We travel south into Corunna Downs Station, where the Secret World War II airbase was situated between 1942-1945. This air base, not so secret now is open to tourist and still holds many relics and memories of an era the once was.
This airbase housing numerous B-24 Liberator Aircraft designed for bombing missions abroad with their ability to carry out 14hr oversea's missions. The design and location of the airbase was strategic and carefully planned and successful in its covert operations.
After experiencing a magical golden sunset, we move into Karratha for a re-stock and make way for changing plans as weather fronts threaten to close roads.
Finally, we drive south into the renowned Millstream National Park where we experience spectacular 360 degree views at Mount Herbert and relaxing swimming at Python Pool.
Join us as we travel these remote lands and discover what this area has to offer.

W O W Nathan, Absolutely stunning episode mate, such lovely scenery and excellent effort on the camera. 100/100 dude 🤙🏼
Really enjoying this trip, could only enjoy it more if I was there in the 78 😂
Thanks mate 👍
It was an unbelievably awesome trip! Looking forward to seeing the finished 78 👍
As a currently serving full-time member of the ADF, I really appreciated this particular episode with you highlighting the significance of the old WWII facilities and mentioning the history behind them. I look forward to heading out there myself one day. Great series Nathan ... looks like you guys got a bit wet in the next episode 🙃
Thanks mate and thanks for your service. This place was very special. I am regretting not spending another night there now, just to allow us to explore a little more and really get the feel of the camp. Would have been a tough gig out there back in the day though. Very hot and very harsh country in the summer months!
Definitely make sure it's on your list to visit when you're in the area, I'm sure you would appreciate it!
Sure did, a lot of water in this series!
It's supposed to be a secret! Now you let the cat out of the bag!!
I used to love going to Pannawonica (my father was a removalist & I used to travel wotk with him on weekends & school holidays)
Haha 😆 good thing I was 80 years to late
There’s some awesome country up there, very underrated in my opinion!
Drone work grouse 👍
Cheers mate 👍

Thanks Simon!
Ah yes, the forever awaited van 😆 Yes, it is in production, still awaiting finalisation and delivery, but it is coming.... sometime....
@@XploringOz haha, fingers crossed it will be sooner than later 😁
Beautiful location and the history is amazing.
Your fridge slide with the slide out table underneath. Is that purchased from someone or did you make it.
It sure is mate. Absolutely awesome part of WA.
So yes, purchased like this. Bought it from a Perth based company, Custom Installations. Highly recommend their work, despite the long wait times 💪
i love the pilbara .....hope they dont mine the lot
For sure, mining is prevalent everywhere up there! Although it’s needed for our economy, hard to watch it happen to such a beautiful part of the world…
Hi Nathan.
Just got around to watch this series .
One question tho
I have seen other videos where a tarp is placed across the front of vehicles when doing water crossings.
Any particular reason you didnt use a tarp or similar ?
Hope your enjoying this series mate 👍
Yes, this is certainly a good idea. We could have done this in this instance, but given our very low speeds it wasn't really necessary. It mainly protects the fans from breaking and damaging the coolers, but our speeds should be causing this much pressure in the front end...
Hey mate, just wondering if you’ve done a video on brake upgrades for the 200 series? These stock rotors keep warping!
Hey mate, yes I have. Gone with the DBA T3 rotors and Extreme performance pads. Working quite well at the moment, definitely pulls up a little easier 👍
out of interest what does lowering the trailer 🤔 pressure do?
Similar effect as lowering the vehicles tyres. It just helps the trailer float over the top of the sand, rather than bog down with the weight. Definitely helps 👍
@@XploringOz People underestimate what a difference it can make to drop the trailer pressures. Hard tyres cut into deep soft sand as they are dragged & skewed into the sand. Airing down increases the ‘length’ of the contact patch of the tyre and does exactly what you said.
Sure, it won’t give you the same level of benefit as reducing the tugs wheels but in those situations every percentage of help counts.
Would think of lowing the tyres down that’s why as a stn care taker I would tell you to piss of go stuff someone else track
Wow mate, that is just rude…
We are talking about a sandy river bank, that is resurfaced after every wet season 🤦♂️
I hope you find happiness somewhere, because watching UA-cam and caretaking doesn’t seem to be doing it for you 🤷♂️
