The Terminator is a 1984 American science fiction action thriller film directed by James Cameron. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator, a cyborg assassin sent back in time from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), whose unborn son will one day save mankind from extinction by a hostile artificial intelligence in a post-apocalyptic future. Michael Biehn plays Kyle Reese, a soldier sent back in time to protect Sarah. The screenplay is credited to Cameron and producer Gale Anne Hurd, while co-writer William Wisher Jr. received a credit for additional dialogue.
Cameron devised the premise of the film from a fever dream he experienced during the release of his first film, Piranha II: The Spawning (1982), in Rome, and developed the concept in collaboration with Wisher. He sold the rights to the project to fellow New World Pictures alumna Hurd on the condition that she would produce the film only if he were to direct it; Hurd eventually secured a distribution deal with Orion Pictures, while executive producers John Daly and Derek Gibson of Hemdale Film Corporation were instrumental in setting up the film's financing and production. Originally approached by Orion for the role of Reese, Schwarzenegger agreed to play the title character after befriending Cameron. Filming, which took place mostly at night on location in Los Angeles, was delayed because of Schwarzenegger's commitments to Conan the Destroyer (1984), during which Cameron found time to work on the scripts for Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) and Aliens (1986). The film's special effects, which included miniatures and stop-motion animation, were created by a team of artists led by Stan Winston and Gene Warren Jr.
Defying low pre-release expectations, The Terminator topped the United States box office for two weeks, eventually grossing $78.3 million against a modest $6.4 million budget. It is credited with launching Cameron's film career and solidifying Schwarzenegger's status as a leading man. The film's success led to a franchise consisting of several sequels, a television series, comic books, novels and video games. In 2008, The Terminator was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

The Terminator franchise ended with Terminator 2 Judgment Day, one of the most epic movies in history.
Yeah, maybe they could cheat and tell you the order you're supposed to watch them in.
They could just do what the MCU did and have a release order and a timeline order, Considering this whole franchise is based around time travelling cyborgs, they might just get away with it😏
And it really established for the first time that you could do a sequel that took a different approach, that would hold up to the original. Doing that with both the Alien & Terminator franchises rightly cemented Cameron's reputation.
Salvation was really good. Still haven't seen the last one.

For me, the true trilogy ends with The Sarah Connor Chronicals. But I did find plenty un the last 4 that I enjoyed.
And you just pointed out why the others didn't match that success. What I loveis hiw so many, We've Seen This Before, stop Copying, peoplegive T2 a pass on its repetition of somany things from film 1.
Skin torn off the T800's face, 2 sent back, for the same missions, terminator on motorcycle, big truck, little truck chase, police chase or response, come back naked, need clothes, Sarah with yet another puncture wound to the left thigh, left shoulder contact by said machine, both fions have a Connor owning a GSD, the target trying to talk the protector into trying to stop J Day, and Arnold showing up at the worst choice locations, to acquire a wardrobe, without having to hospitalize or kill a few people.
Or the, the trailer spoils the surprise, he's good/bad reveal, in 3 to 6, but nevsr bring up that T2 beat them to the punch.
Because, if you're into action flicks, it's awesome, and I don't disagree. But I, God forbid, like 1 better, because it was unique, essentially creating it's own genre. No. Not bashing everyone's Precious obsession, just pointing out that it has the same elements, including T 800 surgery, that one, and 3 through 6, with tye exception of time travel in 4, that is still pretty close, as Marcus almost qualifies, being 14 years removed from his time.
Compared to T2, everything afteris crap. Almost EVERY film ever made Also falls into that category.
And, We've Seen That Before, usually gets this reply from me,

They killed off John Connor who is the main person besides his mother Sarah. Terminator is built on both of them. Instead they replaced them with shitty characters who don't have a real reason for being there.
Actually I call Bullshit on that. Terminator is built on Politics. It's the story of the dangers of over militarization of a country. Of letting the military dictate our policies. To the point that they created a giant death machine under the noses of their own citizens and no one noticed it. It's also about how these insane "East vs West" Cold Wars will bring more danger to the human race than any ideological differences or differences in culture.
Both are very relevant to us now. Between the crazy over hyped Russophobia of the Democrats who want WWIII with Russia. And are looking for any excuse possible to do it. And the insane military budget we have while these bastards are cutting food stamps and programs for those in need. Terminator is also a warning about what happens when technology advances faster than the wisdom to properly use it.
I'd like to see Norman Reedus as an older John Connor if they ever revisit that character.

If there's going to be a another Terminator movie, it needs to be a prequel about the future war that ends with John Connor sending Kyle Reese back in time to protect Sarah Connor in 1984. Take Reese's flashback moments from the original Terminator and make the entire movie based on that. Make a trilogy of it if you have to. Nothing else will be necessary.
Except we already saw them send Reese back in the beginning of T5

It showed us some of the machines. And then went right back through 1 and 2.
We need to stop focusing on the iconic characters and get an original story ABOUT the surviving and the fighting in the world of terminator.
Kyle Reese explains it so well in the first one.
How humans would do the work to carry bodies of the remains.

I wanted to see what it showed. From company command to becoming the John Kyle tells Sarah about in the first film. Next one could have centered around him and Kyle escaping a work camp, third, the battle to take down Sktne, and finding the TDE.
Perfect causal loop, back to the original. And it even would have worked with T3.
Also. My wife and I found plenty to enjoy in each of the films we got.
Salvation was alright and terminator resistance left me feeling like the story was done. Honestly dont need anymore movies

The only terminator movies I wanted to see were the cancelled sequels to salvation. Yes , the plot got screwy towards the end but was underrated as a movie. Was also supposed to be a trilogy with skynet and resistance using more plasma weapons as the tech progressed.

As a matter of fact, the opening scene flashback from Dark Fate looks a lot closer to what we should have gotten. The cinematography, the weapon design e.t.c.

Considering the quality level of today's blockbusters, their budgets and their status in comparison to the original movies, I assume people in Hollywood use 100$ notes for toilet paper and don't care about spending at all. A group of human resistance fighters huddle around a large holographic table. Among them is an older Sarah Connor, now battle-hardened and leading the charge. A holographic display shows a schematic of a new line of highly advanced Terminators known as the TX Series.
SARAH CONNOR
We've intercepted intelligence that Skynet has developed a new breed of Terminators. They're faster, stronger, and more intelligent than anything we've ever seen before.
The room is filled with tense murmurs.
KYLE REESE, a young and resilient soldier, steps forward.

We need to find a way to stop them, Sarah. If we don't act now, Skynet will decimate what's left of humanity.

Not calling T2 crap, it's an excellent film, and worthy of most of the praise it gets. But the original, with prqctical effects, a more stripped down, horror amd romance subplots, is the better film.
By contrast, T2 is an overhyped action flick. One that stops for exposition, and it had to retcon the first film, for the plot to work. I love the movie, but the world building is far better in one, with more complex characters.

They could easily revive this by simply just saying everything after t2 was non cannon or in a Different time line rendering them not important, they then take the books by s. M. Stirling (I think that was the authors name) starting with t2 infiltrator (witch continues on from where the t2 movie ended) they then make the next book in his collection rising storm and end off with his last book the future war, they can then continue on from that with some new movies set in the future witch lead to them finding the time machine and then sending kyle back (connecting the cycle back to t1) they could then make a second future movie where they capture Arnold and send him back (connecting back to t2) and then even a 3rd future movie in witch Arnold kills conner and conner wife takes over capturing the one that killed conner then sending him back in time also as that is pretty much already confirm to be cannon, they can then make yet another movie in future where we see one side winning the war or even 2 movies 1 showing what happens if skynet wins and 1 showing what happens if the resistance win
There are legit 7 or 8 more movies they could make out of this witch would save the franchise and do so many of the fans justice yet instead they continue to pump out bs movies that no one asked for running the franchise as a whole in to the ground

We need a Terminator movie that takes place shortly after Terminator 2 and tell the story on the Future War. Focusing on John Connor and how he became the leader of the resistance.
We had that in Terminator 3, Rise Of The Machines. Skynet became self aware. John and Catherine Brewster began the human resistance bunkered down at the military fortress Crystal Peak. I just wish Terminator 4 was more comparable to the future we saw in short clips during the first Terminator movie. Hunter Killers just looking to waste any humans they come across.

Robert Patrick did it better. Arnold's Terminator was a destroyer and a killer, but Robert Patrick's Terminator was genuinely terrifying. Notice that he murdered almost everyone within his reach, and he never touched John Connor. That establishes the feeling of danger, that as soon as he reaches you, you're dead.
@@kamchatmonk Robert Patrick did a fantastic job as the T1000 but the whole liquid metal thing stretched my suspension of disbelief too far. T2 is absolutely the better movie, but nothing beats the T800 in cool factor imo.
@@suspiciouscheese4518 t1 was a true slasher tense horror movie. they gave the victims character and then arnie slaughtered them giving you emotion, like when he took out the room mate and the mother and the police squad. T2 was a big pg action movie with big explosions and only "bad guys" got hurt.
T2 was better in some ways, just like Aliens was better than Alien in some ways, but I still prefer the first in both franchises.
@@madpuppet666 I never really thought of T1 as a slasher, but I suppose I can see it. I’ve never really liked slashers though, so your interpretation lines up pretty well with my conclusion. I haven’t seen Aliens yet but I’m excited to watch it when I find the time. That said, I also preferred T1 to Alien so it’ll be interesting to see how Aliens stacks up against T2.

Wtf, Dark Fate was damn good, I'm still watching it to this day. Each Terminator movie has merit, if you are a true fan instead of a talking head you can appreciate the differences of each and how it ties back to the original. For the love of God don't let them sign Sylvester Stallone, but you can't have #7 without Linda Hamilton, I loved her arc in "Fate", badass!
