I used to hang out with Fats and Okie Al,,,Al was a walkking talking encyclopedia of the Blues and a real nice guy. at The Ashgrove.I saw Fats literally grew up in front of me as I was there most every Friday Saturday and Sunday night.I saw anybody worthwhile play there Taj Majal ,Jesse Ed, Albert Collins Albert king Freddy KIng you name em ,Ed Pearl would book em..Fats was always good ,but I never dreamed hed be as good as he got at his prime.I never understood the hard drug thing with Fats and to me that came completely pout of left field .I was totally shocked and blown out of the water with the news of his passing..He always seemed to be such a happy go lucky guy and completely into his music.Fats was for the music and of the music. We miss you Fats,,,,DD in L.A.
The Hollywood Fats Band 1975-1981-took blues,boogie-woogie,swing,early black rock n roll and jazz, combined these elements with an exciting in " in the moment " modern edge to create some of the all time best and most visionary music of it's kind.
That's Al Blake singing, I've seen them dozens of times. Mike (Fats) grew up in my town. Hearing them in the early 70's or Fats sitting in with Albert King at Ash Grove, you knew, "this is the real deal", for me it was preferred to SRV. Less physical, just about perfect. Like BB, Magic Sam, Freddie King it just bowls you over and you can't wipe the smile off your face.
The greatest revivalist blues band of them all. Fats and band stand up there with any of the greats in any time period. Micheal "Hollywood Fats" Mann -guitar, Al Blake -Vocals & Harp, Fred Kaplan -piano, Larry "The Mole" Taylor -bass, & Richard Innes -drums. No Rod.
Fats is sooooooooo good! He is able to sound even better because of the band mates he’s playing with in one of the best bands of ALL TIME! Blake singing and playing harp, the Mole and Innes for rhythm section, and Kaplan on the 88s…. SUPERB!!!!

I remember seeing Fats play with Albert King at the Ash Grove. If I remember correctly, it was a Sunday night. 👍😎

Absolutely one of the BEST guitar players EVER. He died way too young.
I discover 'Hollywood' late in life. I dodge the bullets and this greatness is the payoff.

Larry Taylor gave me this CD, which he signed. Larry was amazing…
