I’m so glad I decided to clean mine this year!! It’s been several years and the wax never really came off, so I googled it and found your video. The oven method worked like a charm, thank you.
I just did my 3 ceramic Hanukkiyot (each member of the family has their own personalized) in the oven and they all turned out fantastic! Thank you so much for this. Chag Sameach!
Omg. We just had a Hanukkah celebration for 28 of our favorite friends. OK. Now for the clean up. I love the oven idea. I have 5 needing this cleaning. Years and years of use. They look amazing super easy. They look brand new. Thank you....
Thank you, this is just what I was looking for. I used the oven method and it was SO easy. I bent a paperclip and cleaned out the candle holders very easily. It looks better than it has in years.
The oven method was so great. My Menorah had YEARS of wax on it and it is intricate in its design. The oven heat just got everything off, or a gentle wipe clean. I was so impressed. Thank you!
Thank you for posting multiple options. I love real candles at CMAS & this will help me to enjoy the season even more. May Adonai bless you, keep you & watch over you, now & forever. AMEN
I LOVE this video! The science project style of your tests and comparisons was just fab! I have 2 children's hanukiyot to tend to this year, so I'll be taking extra care with them, but my metal ones will certainly benefit from these tips. Thanks so much!
Thank you SO much for this video!! I just saw it and put my Menorah in the oven for 15 minutes at 175 cause I was a little nervous about setting it an 200. It totally worked, just as you said! Perfect and super easy!! Thanks so much again. Frelichen Chanuka!!
If I have a wax spill in hard to reach places I use a hair dryer and paper towel, I find it's much easier to get the job done! Love all of the ideas though, I never would have thought to use the freezer! 💕🤯💯
Just found this video in searching for way to clean my wax covered metal menorah and tried your suggested oven approach with stellar results!! Worked like a charm. Thanks.
I tried to clean the wax off my menorah with scraping it with a knife, not a good idea. I found your post and I tried the oven method a it works great my menorah is beautiful again. Thank you so much for sharing this video!
Great video, thank you. I cleaned a clear acrylic Hanukiah using the hairdryer because the other solutions would not work. Hair dryer and soft cloth did the trick! Thank you!
The toaster oven also worked great for me and then I cleaned out each of the candle holders with a Q-tip which was wonderful. Thank you and Happy Chanukah~
I have tried the freezer, it is quite good. But I had to take off a lot of wax remaining with a knife. The two other methods are really good. Thank you so much for the tips.
I used my small blow dryer on my plastic menorah, and it worked very nicely. Mostly, I could wipe it off and in certain areas I used my fingernail and it just came right off. Thanks so much for the tips!
@@EverydayJewishMom Love it! I’ve struggled for years, trying to get the wax off and you came up with this very effective and easy way. Thanks again! 🙏
A much easier way that I just attempted, take a sewing needle or a safety pin, heat the sharp point for one and a half seconds, slide it into slightly one side or another from the middle, so that the hot wax lets it slide in, let it sit for five seconds, then slowly pull out the wax. you may have to turn the pin or needle on an angle as you come up out, but I cleaned out the entire wax holder in less than 30 seconds. I will say there was not wax buildup on the top of the candles just inside the candleholders. Happy Hanukkah and you’re welcome.
Thumbs up on the oven at 200F for 15 minutes! I then used a Q-Tip to clean the inside of each candle holder. Our menorah hasn't looked this good in years.
I want to celebrate Hanukkah with a Hanukkiah this year but my mom is super stressed out about all of the details I think especially about the wax candles but at least there is a way to clean it. I've seen that you can also use hot water to melt the wax off in the sink. Just have been praying for my mom to be less stressed out about the details of it.
I've been putting mine in a stock pot of boiling water (which, if you put it in cold and let it come up to temp slowly should be safe for glass and harder plastics). But it's slow. I will try the oven method.
Nice tips! I'm gonna try than hair dryer one, because my metal Chanukah menorah has some piece of velvet on the bottom of the lamp stand. Last year I used boiled water and finished cleaning with essential oil, any one will do, eucalyptus, orange, mint or lavender - anything! The oil will make the menorah shiny with nice scent and it will clean all the remainings of the candle wax away. Chag Chanukah Sameach 5784 for everyone
Essential oils, interesting. Do the oils make the menorah smell nice like lavender or orange? I have those oils. But I’ve never used them to clean anything. I DO have a cleaning essential oil (eucaptus oil,) that is meant 2 mix with water to clean. Which type are you referring to? It wd be comforting to have menorah smell like lavender🤗
I’m not jewish, but just purchased some used brass candelabras and they have a ton of wax build up! I love the idea of the oven! What a great idea! Will definitely try! Thanks for sharing! Just a question - can you use the candle drip plates on the menorahs? This would definitely cut your work in half! Thanks!
I don’t see why you couldn’t use drip plates. Hanukkah candles tend to be fairly small and thin and not super drippy. The tradition is that you’re supposed light them after the sun goes down and let them burn all the way out.
I have a rather intricate menorah. I’m using the oven method now. It’s quite even so I added a loaf pan to raise the bottom so it drains. Fingers crossed (9 years worth of wax lol)!!!
I want to try the oven one by my menorah has a stone on it and I don’t know what the heat could do to it? If anyone has advice if I should do it. I would appreciate it. Happy Hanukkah! 🕎
May have already been posted, but only problem with the oven method as described here is that paper towels in the oven is generally considered not a great idea, regardless of the temperature.
I got my mother the most beautiful menorah. It's tiny and made of sterling silver filigree -- really one of a kind (like my mother). The only candles small enough are birthday candles and naturally, they don't last very long. But the wax after just this one Channukah is formidable and I can't find anywhere on the net how to get wax off of silver filigree. The problem is that it's so delicate. I'd be scared to put it in the oven. The freezer method would require me to chip away at it vigorously, so that's out. The hair dryer method might work, but even when the wax melts in the heat, it leaves a film that's hard to deal with. Any ideas?
I've read on another site (specific to sterling silver elaborate candle stick cleaning, which is a walk in the park compared to a Channukiah) that very hot water is harmful to sterling silver, and don't do it. On the other hand, they also said don't you dare use paper towels because they're rough and can damage the very delicate sensibilities of silver. If you want to find it (and often even if you don't) you can find anything and everything on the net. I think I'm in bind with this miniature menorah. It really is tiny. Maybe three inches or less wide. The hair dryer method might work if I'm careful not to soften the metal. I don't think I have the, "just let it build up it's beautiful," option because any amount of build up with this little jewel and we won't even be able to see it. But I'm going to go through very carefully monitored attempts at all methods you mentioned. You provide a special gift of information (AKA: a mitzvah). Thanks
Yes, the oven method worked perfectly. One thing NOT to do (which I did): think you can wear gloves and wipe the wax off the menorah with rags, without getting the gloves covered in wax. I had to discard them. Thanks.
I would not advise putting paper towels in the oven (It could cause a fire) the rest of this sounds great. Could you show how to get the wax out of the holders/wells?
The wax in the holders will melt in the oven and drip out. During Hanukkah you can use another candle to heat the wax that’s stuck in the wells or pick it out with a toothpick. Paper towels are safe in the oven just like parchment paper is. Paper needs at least 450° to ignite.
I put a coat of Olive oil on mine before I used it to keep the wax from sticking to it.
Great tip!! Thanks.
This is an awesome tip
Will the paper towel not catch on fire in the oven?
Wouldn’t that make it more flammable?
No. It’s not hot enough for the paper towel to burn. Just like you can use parchment paper in the oven.
I’m so glad I decided to clean mine this year!! It’s been several years and the wax never really came off, so I googled it and found your video. The oven method worked like a charm, thank you.

Amazing! Thank you for sharing.
I used the oven method on my brass menorah and it worked great! Thank you!!
I just did the oven method and it worked FANTASTIC! My menorahs look beautiful! Thank you so much!
Yay!!! I’m so glad it worked out for you.
The oven method is amazing! I used Q-tips to clean out the candle holders while it was still warm . It was a breeze!
The oven method was so great. My Menorah had YEARS of wax on it and it is intricate in its design. The oven heat just got everything off, or a gentle wipe clean. I was so impressed. Thank you!
Fantastic!!
Before I watched this video I was using a lighter to try and melt it off. So thankful for these techniques. Thanks for sharing! Happy Hanukkah!🕎
7 years later youre still helping! Thanks for this. I'm ready to just charbroil mine! :)
Thank you for posting multiple options. I love real candles at CMAS & this will help me to enjoy the season even more.
May Adonai bless you, keep you & watch over you, now & forever. AMEN
I used the blowdryer because my Menorah is wood. I also used a corkscrew in the holders. thanks
I LOVE this video! The science project style of your tests and comparisons was just fab! I have 2 children's hanukiyot to tend to this year, so I'll be taking extra care with them, but my metal ones will certainly benefit from these tips. Thanks so much!
Pouring boiling water over the menorah works well too, if it’s made of metal!
Thank you SO much for this video!! I just saw it and put my Menorah in the oven for 15 minutes at 175 cause I was a little nervous about setting it an 200. It totally worked, just as you said! Perfect and super easy!! Thanks so much again. Frelichen Chanuka!!

yes... the oven worked very well... thanks.
Just found this video in searching for way to clean my wax covered metal menorah and tried your suggested oven approach with stellar results!! Worked like a charm. Thanks.
Hooray! I'm so glad it worked.
The 200 degree oven worked beautifully for my nickel plated silver menorah. Thank you so much for the fabulous method.
You're welcome!
I put our menorahs in the sink with hot water brush it off. Simple easy
Wow! I’ll have to try that one too.
Yup, easiest and fastest way there is. Also put something in the sink to prevent melted wax from going down the drain. Works like a charm.
That's what I do. 😊
I tried to clean the wax off my menorah with scraping it with a knife, not a good idea. I found your post and I tried the oven method a it works great my menorah is beautiful again. Thank you so much for sharing this video!
Baking the menorah for 15 mins at 200 was an awesome life hack!! 30 years of wax... gone!
Hooray!
Great video, thank you. I cleaned a clear acrylic Hanukiah using the hairdryer because the other solutions would not work. Hair dryer and soft cloth did the trick! Thank you!
I’m working now with the 200 degree oven. I used to struggle with a knife. I love this method. Great video and technique 😮
Hooray!!
The toaster oven also worked great for me and then I cleaned out each of the candle holders with a Q-tip which was wonderful. Thank you and Happy Chanukah~
Perfect!
I have tried the freezer, it is quite good. But I had to take off a lot of wax remaining with a knife. The two other methods are really good. Thank you so much for the tips.
Lifesaver! Mine was an absolute trainwreck--15 minutes in the toaster oven at 225, and voila. Thx!
I used my small blow dryer on my plastic menorah, and it worked very nicely. Mostly, I could wipe it off and in certain areas I used my fingernail and it just came right off. Thanks so much for the tips!

Won't your hands get burnt?
Did the oven method. Worked great!!! Thanks!

I am assuming these techniques would work for the havadala holder as well
I found your utube video today and put mine in the oven and it worked perfectly. Thanks for sharing this information ❤❤✡️✡️🕎🕎
How do you clean the individual cups holding the candles each night?
Thanks for the video. Will you be doing a video on oil based menorahs anytime soon? We are thinking of switching from candles to oil.
Nice tips! I'm gonna try than hair dryer one, because my metal Chanukah menorah has some piece of velvet on the bottom of the lamp stand. I like the oven treatment but I don't hv oven at home so i guess I hv to use the hairdryer
Amazing! Thanks for sharing.
Glad to help.
I am going to try the oven method. However, my daughter suggested that we try a heat gun.

thank you so much for these lovely tips I'm definitely going to try the oven method that really does look easy.

Do you have to put a paper towel on the Reynold's wrap when you put it in the oven? I thought just putting the Reynold's wrap would be good enough.
I have a rather intricate menorah. I’m using the oven method now. It’s quite even so I added a loaf pan to raise the bottom so it drains. Fingers crossed (9 years worth of wax lol)!!!
Sending you good vibes!
I put mine in the dishwasher with 1.5 cups vinegar a few DROPS of Dawn, wash it, and it comes out sparkling-clean.
I lied!!! My eyesight is not good. I looked at it again, and it was not as clean as I thought!
Oh no. Wax is tricky.
Thank you, lady! My hannukiahs are a mess, OY!
Watching now for Hanukkah 2022. 4th night
Shalom. Where did you get the Menorah from:: the first one showing in the video?
I want to try the oven one by my menorah has a stone on it and I don’t know what the heat could do to it? If anyone has advice if I should do it. I would appreciate it. Happy Hanukkah! 🕎
Thanks for a great video. Your menorahs are very beautiful. I clean mine with water white kerosene.
You can also use HOT water it come right off!!
May have already been posted, but only problem with the oven method as described here is that paper towels in the oven is generally considered not a great idea, regardless of the temperature.

Recently I’ve seen people dip their menorahs in a pot of very hot water.

I clean my silver with hot water and baking soda and thin foil, it works great.
Yes, the oven method worked perfectly. One thing NOT to do (which I did): think you can wear gloves and wipe the wax off the menorah with rags, without getting the gloves covered in wax. I had to discard them. Thanks.
Be caeful with freezing. I ruined our heirloom pewter menorah that way. One of the candle cups broke off.
Omg who else is battling cleaning those menorahs after Hanukkah!?????? Meeeee!!!!!. Trying the oven as I typed this 🤣🤣🤣
OMG IT WORKED 10 MINS IN THE OVEN AT 200F AND OFF IT GOES!!!
Hahaha that was awesome!
Wonderful but I think they look really pretty with the wax on them also! :)
So true! ❤️
Thank you
pro tip: you can clean your menorah and bake your rugelach at the same time.
Excellent advice.
Yasss
I put mine in a metal bowl, and poured boiling water on it.
Use a toothpick to clean cups
Boiling water takes it right off
I just learned that if you keep the candles in the freezer during Hanukkah, they will not drip.
Just pour hot water over it, it will work🎉.
