The "give all my things to all my friends" line always hits me so hard. I had a friend pass when I was 14 (Not a suicide, but still extremely hard.) His mom let a few of us into his room to pick a "memory" and I came a across a toy that had originally belonged to me; an old Transformer that I had made a trade with him for something else. It meant so much to me that she did that when she didn't have to, but she understood the loss that we had suffered as well.
You ever hear a song that you've heard a million times, but all of a sudden it feels like the first time again? You just did that for me. Thank you for making this.
Holy fuck I've known this song since I was 13 and now I'm a Mom and it's never hit me harder. I heard this in my car and have never felt another likeaversion harder than this. Thank you for this. I didn't know I needed to cry that bad
@@sujol6276@sujol6276 If it did, this wouldn't be a cover, it would be a different song for one VERY important reason: the last chorus is supposed to bring hope back. The choruses before now all had "used" or "held", past tense words. "I never CONQUERED rarely CAME sixteen just HELD such better days days when I still FELT alive we COULDN'T wait to get outside The world WAS wide, TOO LATE to try The tour WAS over, WE'D SURVIVED I COULDN'T wait 'til I GOT home To pass the time in my room alone" All those words state that all the good times are over, and so is the subject's life. Now compare that to: "I never conquered, rarely came TOMORROW HOLDS such better days Days when I CAN still FEEL alive When I CAN'T wait to get outside The world IS wide, the TIME GOES BY The tour IS over, I'VE survived I CAN'T wait 'til I GET home To pass the time in my room alone" The chorus makes you think it'll be describing the same misery as before, forever; just like the depression the song is kind of about, but then it goes to present and future tense, stating there are things to still look forward to, things to live for. The ending is needed to tell it's ultimate message, and that is this: "There is hope. You can push through whatever it is that you are going through and enjoy a life worth living, but you cannot enjoy a life that is ended before it had the chance to get better. You can have that chance if you don't give up...................................... PLEASE LIVE."
Simply unbelievable, it's covers like this that like a version is made for. They've made an already outstanding song their own and absolutely killed it, brings back memories I'd forgotten I even had from listening to the original for the first time
I had a very close friend of mine that I grew up with, and we were best buds. One of our favorite bands to sing and listen to together was Blink 182. We met in kindergarten, and from then on, we found so many memories together. At times, we were on the playground being children, and at others, we were in college becoming men. But during high school, he had a close scare with suicide. I remember singing this song with him at the same period of time when he felt that way, and hearing in this version made me realize the depth and strength of the words. My friend was hurting so bad, and this song connected far deeper than I knew. Thank you for this version.
I was having a weird day and thought “hmm maybe Adam’s song will hit?” Listened. Then thought “what if there’s a softer cover bet it’ll be good?”. Find this. Flash forward to the first chorus. I’m driving and balling, like ugly crying to this. I have work in like 15 mins haha. I can’t go in looking like this. And if I tell them why I will be roasted for eternity haha. Great Fucking cover man. Bravo.
At age 17 I was in a small band. After a few months of playing we learned our singer tragically died in a construction accident. A door to a stairwell was hung without the stairs behind them. He fell and broke his neck we never got to talk again. This song hits hard. We played many blink songs. I miss those years growing up in my room and even though times where hard life got better. Wesley will always be my friend and I truly believe we will get to talk again.
I used to fall asleep to this song on repeat when I was a teenager. Helped me go through some tough times. This is such a lovely version. Thanks for this.
I heard this song last in my teens and I didn't quite understand what it meant, and now to hear it again at this age and it suddenly felt so melancholic.
I've heard the original many times and I love Blink 182 but I just realized I missed a lot of lyrics from the original. Wow.. one of the most beautiful and haunting songs I've ever heard lyrically and to think a lot of people dismissed them for being silly and weird.
I never thought I'd die alone I laughed the loudest, who'd have known? I trace the cord back to the wall No wonder it was never plugged in at all I took my time, I hurried up The choice was mine, I didn't think enough I'm too depressed to go on You'll be sorry when I'm gone I never conquered, rarely came Sixteen just held such better days Days when I still felt alive We couldn't wait to get outside The world was wide, too late to try The tour was over, we'd survived I couldn't wait 'til I got home To pass the time in my room alone I never thought I'd die alone Another six months I'll be unknown Give all my things to all my friends You'll never step foot in my room again You'll close it off, board it up Remember the time that I spilled the cup Of apple juice in the hall Please tell mom this is not her fault I never conquered, rarely came Sixteen just held such better days Days when I still felt alive We couldn't wait to get outside The world was wide, too late to try The tour was over, we'd survived I couldn't wait till I got home To pass the time in my room alone I never conquered, rarely came Tomorrow holds such better days Days when I can still feel alive When I can't wait to get outside The world is wide, the time goes by The tour is over, I've survived I can't wait 'til I get home To pass the time in my room alone
Amazing cover, the original always hits home, this one is more melancholic, same reaction. bless all who are grieving suicide or feel suicidal. much love x The tour was over, we survived.

loved this rendition!
Great work mate, like how the reprise at the end had a somewhat hopeful vibe.
Obsessed with this my man

Thanks for sharing that I choked up reading this ♥️
for when the original doesn't make you cry as much as you'd like
This is a soulless Walmart version of the song
@@skypekai nah
@William Bodie just saying something is soulless, doesn't make it so
Try not be so childish. Mark Hoppus would be embarrassed you're a blink fan
Naw super cute what a time capsule
@@skypekai I gotta agree tbh it doesn’t have the aggression like original slowing it doesn’t make it sadder

Shit. I think I was about 11-12 when it came out. So crazy to think about. Had a kid only 6-7 years after first hearing Blink 182.
yeah, same, just cry for all of it
Yeah it really hits different as an adult for sure.
❤❤❤
What a brilliant take on a classic. Well done Nick this is what like a version is about
This how brilliant artists pay tribute to the masters. Unbelievable.
Love this version, really suits the haunting lyrics. "Please tell mom this is not her fault" 😢
I kind of wish the song ended there. such a moment.

Well okay I’m crying. This song has always been such a massive tear jerker since I was a kid.
This was a phenomenal cover.
I'm getting massive movie soundtrack vibes. Potentially even vibes of ugly crying to the main character's best friend's death. Nailed this cover.
like ryan atwood reminiscing about marissa cooper
Like John Barton’s death in ‘Looking for Alibrandi’
Crying in the rain on your knees as the camera pans out
Omg yes! Glad I’m not the only one who imagines movie scenes to match the songs I hear.

You did such a good job, mate. holy_shit
Such an amazing cover. Haven’t stopped listening to it.
What are the guitar chords, Nick?
This was a really good version and the message behind this song hits hard in any version of it
True, I’m a fifo worker with the lyrics ‘can’t wait to get home and close the bedroom door to spend time alone’ sorta summing it up unfortunately.
@@TheGreydogg stay strong brother.

I love the OG and I love this cover.
Thank you Triple J for helping this American find bands with such talent.

This is such a lovely version. Thanks for this.
I sincerely hope the Blink 182 guys have seen this. I have no doubt they'd be honoured to have this cover. He absolutely nails this. It's brilliant
Mark often says he watches covers of their big hits, so he probably has at least!
Well I didn’t realise at 35 I could
still cry again to this song
Always wanted to get a version like this from Blink, there are some acoustic/live performances out there
But this hits so good
Amazing job with vocals, instrumentals, across the board.
This cover surely deserves an award.

For sure. Same here.
That note hold at 3:47 is so brilliantly placed by the backup vocalists. Incredible.
wonderful cover. this version really touches the message in a new way while bringing up old feelings. Love it.
