i realized recently i do actually really love the friends to lovers trope (people we meet on vacation made me realize that) my issue was that the authors i was reading from was not making it angsty enough
All rhodes lead here is one of the best things i ever read. It is such a comfort read to me, just all the best tropes and done amazingly So glad you liked it, Its such a shame that people don't talk about this MZ book as much as her other works
Your point on family relationships is one of the reasons why I loooove emily henry’s beach read😭 in addition to the great romance. Literally one of my favs of all time because of the love weaved in between hard life
I haven’t been into most romance I’ve read, but I had so much fun reading The Love Hypothesis. It took me back into my fanfiction reading and I thought it was such a fun one.
Kindle Unlimited: End of Day by Jewel E Ann Rootbound or Funny Feelings by Tarah DeWitt The Plight Before Christmas by Kate Stewart YA: The Boys Next Door by Jennifer Echols
Watched every second even though I either already read every book and gave them 5stars or have them on my tbr. I feel like a true fangirl for being familiar with all of them from watching you!
It Happened One Summer is my favorite rom-com romance book! I liked The Love Hypothesis but I didn't love it, for some reason it didn't wow me. I had to skip a few other books you talked about because I haven't read them yet, but when I do I'll come back and watch the rest. Seven Days in June is in my TBR for this month and I have to read All Rhodes Lead Here.
I find LJ Shen is really good for angst, particularly in "The Villain" and "Bane". Also Sophie Lark's "Savage Lover". If you haven't already, check out Sara Cate's last two books in the Salacious Club series, "Eyes on me" and "Give me more". While each book explores different kinks (the heros are owners of a sex club), the stories are heartfelt and quite angsty, with a lot more depth to them than the usual raunchy sex club novels.
never heard of "spoiler alert" so I guess I have a new one for my tbr For mutual pining I would recommend "terms and conditions" by lauren asher and "between here and the horizon" by callie hart
I loveeee to hear you talk about books you love. I honestly could listen to you talk about 64 books you love 🙈🙈. I've read most of the books in this video and love them too. Out of all these I love Seven Days in June and Regretting you (one of CoHo's most underrated books imo) the most. You've also sold me on trying Spoiler Alert. I haven't heard much about it before, so I'll pick it up. One book on this list that did disappoint me is the Bride Test, because I loved it up to like 80/85% mark, & then it just wrapped up too many loose ends in one scene that made it so rushed and not realistic. Also Quan (like everyone else was my fave) & I felt he was written into the story to fit Esme's agenda instead of progressing his own, which I really felt frustrated about. Anywayyy rant out 🙊
I’ve read all of these except Regretting You, and I’ve given all of them 4 or 5 stars. This is making me think I should read that too, even though I kinda wanted to never read a Colleen Hoover book ever again. This video was great for your viewers to kind of check in and see how their reading preferences align with your current preferences!
KU or indie published is where the angst and pining is at! other than Tessa Bailey no one in trad published romance is writing great chemistry so this year im exclusively reading indie published romance (making exception to Ms. TB lol) if it has a cartoon, animated cover im not picking it up lol.
I don’t hate The Love Hypothesis, but the book REALLY did make me uncomfortable for some reason. Most of their interactions were completely forced by her friend, not even part of their own plans at all, and that didn’t sit right with me. And also the “smut” scene… her hesitation made me feel uncomfortable, because it made me feel like she wasn’t a 100% sure, and that makes consent a little blurry, so I really didn’t like that. I did enjoy the tropes, the plot twist and the way he stood up for her, but I really can’t look past the things that ultimately made me not like the book!
We love a good gush sesh!! I have read and loved most of these romances as well, so I feel like our tastes are pretty similar - unsurprising if you consider that I get most of my recommendations from your channel haha. It‘s really interesting to hear you talk in depth about what you like about these books, because I sometimes struggle to pinpoint exactly WHY I like something.
if you want a book about mutual pining, I just read My Cone and Only by Susannah Nix that was pretty cute! not a friends to lovers trope, but I really enjoyed it!
The Beau and the Belle by R.S. Grey has some good mutual pining! Also Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren, but I think you've already read that. My favorite trope is for sure friends to lovers x mutual pining
I was in a real life friends to lovers relationship and I will tell you it was angsty, it was passionate, it was exciting and it might have destroyed me so do not knock the drama potential there
when romance tastes align 🙏 im really excited fr your thoughts on the fine print by Lauren asher (I saw you were reading it on Goodreads i swear I'm ot a stalker)
i see a couple comments about every summer after and ooffff i don’t know, as a love and other words stan i think the books are too similar but different in a fundamental way that i could not get past it. can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
I don’t know if you have read Beard Science by Penny Reid but that’s an absolute favorite of mine and it’s because of the personal growth element you mentioned. I really love when that is done well.
read 6/10 of the books mentioned here (which were were mostly 3-5 stars read for me), my last coho book was November 9 which was why i had to take a break from picking up a book from her but i'm going to give regretting you a chance because our reading taste do align 😭 i love me some angsty romance too but the ones i read (regretfully) have the cheating trope which just turns me off 💔 anywho if you're looking for something lighthearted i'd actually recommend my killer vacation by tessa baily, a very cute romcom 😍
A good mutual pining is binding 13 by Chloe Walsh but if u do read make sure your ok with slow burns and the trigger warnings honestly though even tho it’s long it’s a great book that I found really funny with good side characters
I love friends to lovers but I have a hard time reading it sometimes because I’ve been in that situation and lost someone who was my best friend at the time because a romantic relationship didn’t work out, I can see why it would be romanticized but there are a lot of risks
seven days in june iktr!!! 🙌🏽🤍 sooo happy (clearly lmao) to see it made your list! i feel like kennedy ryan has some angsty romances you might like! the Kingmaker duology was super good and angsty!
Ok so NOT a romance, but a YA fantasy series that will forever live in my heart because of the mutual pining is Air Awakens by Elise Kova. There’s a bit of an age gap (6 years; 18 & 24) and the male mc is the crown prince, so very obviously should be off-limits…. right? 😜 but Vhalla and Aldrik orbit around each other for so long and they both grow so much as people: he encourages her to accept and hone her newfound powers; she encourages him to believe in his decisions and instincts as a leader (and the next King). I just UGH I love them so much. And the whole series is on Kindle Unlimited!
I realized my romance taste is very different from yours in this video! I didn’t care for the soulmate equation, People We Meet on Vacation is my least favorite by Emily Henry (i DNF’d) and The Bride Test was my least favorite Helen Huang while The Heart Principal was my favorite! 🤣
Mutual pining, friends to lovers, and angst all in one, try “A Love Letter to Whiskey” by Kandi Steiner. An older book from 2016 but I still remember the feels. It’s on KA.
full disclosure I haven’t read this book yet lol but every summer after by carley fortune seems like it could be right up your alley. Also the straight hair is 🔥
I’m such a big fan of your channel! Have you ever read anything by Sonali Dev? Specifically her book A Bollywood Affair which has a misleading title (most of it takes place in Michigan 😂). I really enjoy her exploration of romance across cultures and the Indian American experience.
oh god, Regretting You still stings when i think about it. my empathy for the main character spiraled out of control and i still hold a grudge on her behalf.
Your reasons for liking Spoiler Alert made me think of Alex, Approximately. It's YA but it's the same thing where they've been friends online forever on a classic movie forum and then meet in Cali and initially hate each other but of course fall in love. It wasn't a 5 star for me but I remember the tension being good and it being pretty sex positive despite no explicit sex scenes because YA.
for mutual pining CHANDLER you have to read a sky painted gold by laura wood you will love it the main guy is grumpy but not an ahole and the main girl is soooooo cute like she seems so genuinely nice and it really explores some deeper topics like addiction and alcoholism but it gives you the space to kinda consider those darker things yourself as a reader rather than just spoon feeding you information YOU WILL LOVE THIS BOOK
I love People We Meet on Vacation so much... I pick it up like once a month to read my favourite parts... The only other "romance" book that I do this with is Gone With the Wind....
Have you read A Brush with Love by Mazey Eddings? There is def mutual pining. Read the TW because the FMC has anxiety, and theres an anxiety attack. idk if this might trigger for someone who reads it. let me know if anyone else has read it and what their thoughts were!
Funnily enough, The Bride Test was the reason I started wondering whether or not I was autistic… lo and behold, yes I am 💀 Also: Honeytrap, by Aster Glenn Gray is PEAK angst and mutual pining. READ HONEYTRAP, BY ASTER GLENN GRAY, Y’ALL!!!!

Tbf I used to love fanfiction but I haven't read it in years so maybe it's just a style of writing I've grown out of idk. My fav fanfictions were the more grown up, well written type to begin with too.
Have to admit I was 1/3 of the way through TLH when I wrote this and I actually really enjoyed the rest of it. It started to feel a lot more like I was reading about actual adults and now I know it's a kind of homage to fanfic I can excuse a lot of what I was perceiving as "juvenile" as legit fanfic tropes that were actually weaved in quite well.
The thing that makes or break friends to lovers for me is whether they both wanted something from the beginning. I liked PWMOV but I HATED When Harry meets Sally. There’s so much emphasis on the fact that they will end up together because they’re a man and a woman and we all know that friendship is a lie. That’s such a sad belief.
If you like the messy family drama of Remembering You, I recommend The Wrong Game! It’s cute, has great sex scenes, and a dead ex-husband with a lot of messy drama!
I loved Spoiler Alert. Like, really really loved it. Couldn't wait to read All The Feels, Alex's story. Did not like it. Not one bit. I was so disappointed 😞
I could not STAND the miscommunication trope in the love hypothesis. Like the main characters are these super smart sciencey people but they can't say "I like you" to each other? i realized recently i do actually really love the friends to lovers trope (people we meet on vacation made me realize that) my issue was that the authors i was reading from was not making it angsty enough
yes the angst is cruuuucial
same here!
i love friends to lovers and pwmov is one of my faves in that trope
Hey, Chan. Would you be interested in making a video ranking the common tropes in books? It would be fun!
omg yes i wld love to see that too
All rhodes lead here is one of the best things i ever read. It is such a comfort read to me, just all the best tropes and done amazingly
So glad you liked it, Its such a shame that people don't talk about this MZ book as much as her other works

Yes!! I didn’t like PWMOV or book lovers. But beach read was a QUALITY story. The depth in it really takes it to the next level
I haven’t been into most romance I’ve read, but I had so much fun reading The Love Hypothesis. It took me back into my fanfiction reading and I thought it was such a fun one.
videos where you talk about books that you liked are my faaavvveeeee

Every Summer After might be a good one for you! It’s friends to lovers with angst and mutual pining.
i'm reading that one this month! i'm hyped!
I loved the love hypothesis. It felt new? Different. I love a fan fic writer with quality
I find LJ Shen is really good for angst, particularly in "The Villain" and "Bane". Also Sophie Lark's "Savage Lover". I LOVED THE LOVE HYPOTHESIS TOO!! Also love the content :)
We have such similar romance tastes! I know I can always count on you for a good rec and adding all the books I haven't read from this list to my TBR!
I just finished Every Summer After and I LOVED it. A perfect friends to lovers with angst. I def think it’s comparable to People We Meet on Vacation.
I was wanting this video from you so bad and was about to search your videos and saw you just uploaded it lol!!❤️👏🏼
Excited that a lot of your favorites are also my favorites! Also great suggestions for a few more I should pick up!
i’ve been waiting for you to review the love hypothesis. i’m so happy you liked it!! I thought it was really fun and enjoyable
I’m so glad you talked about Spoiler Alert, I thought it was great but I hardly saw any hype for it

Immediately picking up All Rhodes Lead Here!! A book with hiking vibes? Sign me up!
All Rhodes Lead Here has become my fave Mariana Zapata :D
this video brightened my entire day! (as all your videos do), it's so nice to see your tastes change through watching your videoz! 🥰❤

Chandler I'm truly living for all these posts
ah thank you !!
Would loveeeee a video about your dream casting for It Happened One Summer!! 😍
early as! so looking forward to this, i loved your 'popular romance books i hated' video!!
Chandler: I'd like to see more of this in romances.
Me: *sideeyes the romance I've been writing for a year that has all that*
when romance tastes align 🙏
im really excited fr your thoughts on the fine print by Lauren asher (I saw you were reading it on Goodreads i swear I'm ot a stalker)
lmaooooo i just started it today! interesting so far... i'm reading it for a 5 star KU predictions vid (shhh don't tell anyone)
Your lipstick is so pretty 💖💖
Angsty romance rec- ‘for you’ by Kristen Ashley. Though some of that is coming from external circumstances. They have been kind of internalised!
i see a couple comments about every summer after and ooffff i don’t know, as a love and other words stan i think the books are too similar but different in a fundamental way that i could not get past it. can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
I am most definitely reading EVERY ONE of these books now:)
I don’t know if you have read Beard Science by Penny Reid but that’s an absolute favorite of mine and it’s because of the personal growth element you mentioned. I really love when that is done well.
i love that one!!
This was a great list. Definitely adding some things to my wishlist!

I love this series!!
have you read eleanor and park? i absolutely love how rainbow rowell writes romance books. they are the perfect blend of swoon and story. ugh
I realized my romance taste is very different from yours in this video! I didn’t care for the soulmate equation, People We Meet on Vacation is my least favorite by Emily Henry (i DNF’d) and The Bride Test was my least favorite Helen Huang while The Heart Principal was my favorite! 🤣

i didn't love that one sadly :/
full disclosure I haven’t read this book yet lol but every summer after by carley fortune seems like it could be right up your alley. Also the straight hair is 🔥
Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella is a really good book (imo) that I really enjoyed that I haven’t seen anyone talk about !
I’m such a big fan of your channel! Have you ever read anything by Sonali Dev? Specifically her book A Bollywood Affair which has a misleading title (most of it takes place in Michigan 😂). I really enjoy her exploration of romance across cultures and the Indian American experience.
I'm not sure if you have yet, but for mutual pining, you have to read Every Last Summer by Carley Fortune!!
i'm so excited to get to that one!
Mutual pining rec- don’t kiss the bride by Carian cole. Slow burn but WORTH IT (coming from a person that usually doesn’t read slow burns)
oh god, Regretting You still stings when i think about it. my empathy for the main character spiraled out of control and i still hold a grudge on her behalf.

Also, Geekerella is almost an identical plot but again, YA. I read a lot of YA.
i don’t even need to watch this video to know im going to hear about it happened one summer

Omg I loved Spoiler Alert! It spurred me to read more of Olivia Dade’s works and I’ve enjoyed every one that I’ve read.
I love People We Meet on Vacation so much... I pick it up like once a month to read my favourite parts... The only other "romance" book that I do this with is Gone With the Wind....
Can you do a video of your favourite books of all time?
i've got one posted, it's only my favorite romances but i don't have many favorites that aren't romances haha
Have you read A Brush with Love by Mazey Eddings? There is def mutual pining. Read the TW because the FMC has anxiety, and theres an anxiety attack. idk if this might trigger for someone who reads it. let me know if anyone else has read it and what their thoughts were!
i'm reading it soon!
For romance recommendations with drama and angsty you must read " For the record I hate you" it's a 5 stars for me
Lyla James' books are VERY angsty. The German Heiress by Anika Scoot and These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong.
I’ve never been so early 💕💕
"Adam is a phd...Not canditate?" lmao 😂
Just found your channel. If you haven't done it already, i think a cool video idea could be "novels for people who are new to the romance genre." ^_^
“Do I agree with the moral stance Colleen Hoover is taking, like in say, November 9? F**k no!” 😄😄😄
i think the word you were looking for with adam is "doctor" lol
Okay, I really wanna read Soulmate Equation and All Rhodes Lead Here now. ^--^ 💜💜
_(P. S. - 100% concur with your point about grumpy =/= asshole!)_
Marriage For One has much much pining.
People hate “The Love Hypothesis”?!
I loved it haha
Wait you like books? 🤪
EXCELLENT
✍️
Funnily enough, The Bride Test was the reason I started wondering whether or not I was autistic… lo and behold, yes I am 💀
Also: Honeytrap, by Aster Glenn Gray is PEAK angst and mutual pining. READ HONEYTRAP, BY ASTER GLENN GRAY, Y’ALL!!!!
The only book I haven’t read or don’t own is spoiler alert. So glad I only have to get one book and not an entire list of books this time 😅
Chandler, can you please let me know the name of that book you've talked about called Eden something. You've mentioned it a few times and I really want to read it 🙏🏾
Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson!
@@chandlerainsley
Yay thanks. I'll read it and let you know 😁 I put it on hold at my library. They have it. I'm so excited 💃🏾
I need to read an Emily Henry book so badly 😩
It's not the tropes I didn't like in The Love Hypothesis personally, it's that the characters were supposed to be fully grown adults but felt incredibly juvenile to me. I read the The soulmate equation, after I DNF’d the unhoneymooners. I loved it and i read it cause of your recommendation!
not related but what metal are your wedding rings?
14k gold
I loved Spoiler Alert. Like, really really loved it. Couldn't wait to read All The Feels, Alex's story. Did not like it. Not one bit. I was so disappointed 😞
📕📕📕📚📚👍👌🏾
THERES A MOVIE FOR PWMOV?
it's based off of When Harry Met Sally
no sarah hogle!? this list now means nothing to me
Olivia Dade is an auto-read author for me.
I could not STAND the miscommunication trope in the love hypothesis. Like the main characters are these super smart sciencey people but they can't say "I like you" to each other? Make it make sense 🤷🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️. I've heard that all of Ali Hazelwood's books involve heavy use of miscommunication so unfortunately she is not the author for me 😬

I’ve never understood the friends to lovers trope. HAHAHA "Owner of a PHD" I would've said the exact same thing! LOVE YOU!
