    I have dewberry vines growing in my backyard in Tampa, but the birds and squirrels always get the berries. :)

    My daughter and I are picking tons of wild dewberries and blackberries. They make delicious jelly. My mom always kept frozen blackberries or dewberries in the freezer for stomachaches. It works great.

    We used to pick these by the bucketload back in the 70s. It was a yearly ritual. It was a wonderful time. We made dewberry jam and dewberry cobbler and put them on cereal. They are ripening a month earlier than they used to. May was always the month to pick dewberries, but now they bloom in April.

    Just found these growing crazy on my MS homestead! Super excited. I just bought the property, so I wasn't around last year at this time. Thank you for your information!

    I watch for the white blooms along ditches so I know where to go back and pick these. People used to find lots of them beside railroad tracks and sell them on the side of the road. I’m in central Texas and noticed some blooming along the fence row beside my garden.

    Those dewberry leaves look slightly different than the ones we have in Texas.

    Black Hat Bushcraft,
    Can I grow dewberries within a confined location or will a space restriction cause the plant to choke-out and die?

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  6 років тому +1

      That is a good question. I have never tried to grow them honestly. I have only ever consumed them as a wild edible plant. Fortunately they volunteer on our land each year and I get to enjoy them with no work involved:) Sorry I couldn't give more info. Thank you for tuning in!
