Change the location of the filter mount and it covers all three lenses. Havent watched all the way through but noticed it at 1:31 into the video that your filter doesn't cover all three lenses. I made the same mistake.
Just treated my self, I’m finding my IPhone is being used for my content way more than any of my cameras! Thanks for showing us this and great showing its little tiny faults lol.
First of all great review! Thanks for pointing out the issues. I have a couple of questions though, how one should take care of external powerbank with the same rig? Since heavy shooting will drain more power and sooner or later we will need an external power backup. Also, how we can mount the external monitor in case we decide to make the overall setup more professional. Would love to hear some suggestions ont he same.
Definitely something I can't live without out now, even though I didn't know it existed 10 minutes ago. I have a cold shoe mount small camera light I've always wanted a way to hook to my phone, looks like it would work with this!
Having used my iPhone 15 ProMax for 1 month filming in India I used the internal drive as by the time you add up all the extras with the hard drive etc. you might as well buy the 1TB version on the phone. I shot in ProRes HQ and never ran out of space as I off loaded to a drive in the evening. Now to the biggest problems I have with the SmallRig cage is one the filter mount has to be carefully lined up because it can twist so easily and then you cannot use all the lenses when you have the filter on and two they do not make a 6-9 ND and in India I needed a 6-9 some of the time. Due to this I bought the Neewer cage which I found with one exception a much better cage and the filter mount slides on an off which was as quick as using a magnetic mount for the filter. Also this cage with the Neewer handle was great as like the SmallRig handle it has a built in trigger for the camera. The other thing is that Neewer do a mount for the BeastGrip 1.7 lens which is a plus.. Now the only downside is that they only make the mount for the main lens and not for4 the telephoto lens, but hey you never expect every thing do you.
Totally agree on them dropping the ball on the cage. Most people using these types of rigs with their phones are going to use Pro Res with an external drive. Such a huge miss to not have a clean SSD mount with this cage. They created a USB adapter but it frustratingly doesn't support 10gbps data so you STILL can't use an SSD 😡
Very helpful review. Thanks. One question concerning the use of filters. I understand that the filters can be magnetically attached to the mount. Does this only work with the original SmallRig filters or can I also use filters from other manufacturers? Does the adapter also have a standard 67mm thread for screwing on filters?
Hi Vic, I got the Smallrig Brandon Li version and I think it’s really well made. I have one problem that maybe you can help with. The blue tooth connection doesn’t work with the Black Magic app. ?????
I just got this and have a major problem - my iphone 15 pro max doesn't fit. It's a VERY tight fit and then gets stuck with about 1-2cms to go. Am I being a moron and not removing something from the cage? Other than that it looks really well made!
Hey 👋 it’s tight fit alright but mine slides in with a bit of resistance but nothing major. More so it doesn’t get stuck. Stupid question, I’m guessing there’s no case on the phone right? That aside I’m at a loss?
@@VicBarry correct no case (however it has a screen protector but that shouldn't make any difference), but tight fit is an understatement - it's already marked the sides of the phone and when someone tried to push it down more, it got stuck. So far not impressed at all!
Hi Vic, thank you ! Is there a way to use Anamorphic and ND filter at the same time? Should we use ND filter on anamorphic if we use it on a bright sunny day?
I have the iPhone 15 Pro Max and use the Blackmagic Camera app with all the specifications I've seen in this tutorial and others. However, my videos always have grain, and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I understand it might be due to low light in the places I'm recording, but almost all the material has grain. Can you help me improve this? Thank you in advance
Did you figure out a way to keep dust off the lens when the cage is on? For me since I carry my iphone with me everywhere, each time I want to take a photo or video, I have to remove the iphone from the cage and wipe the dust off, even with the filter attached. That is really annoying.
I have the iPhone 15promax Smallrig version but I ordered the Brandon Li version as it is a better deal. Would you like me to send you the regular version for a giveaway on your channel. Maybe it could help someone that can’t afford one. Just let me know. It would be my pleasure
If you want to cover all 3 lenses/cameras from the iPhone 15 Pro Max (clockwise from bottom left: 48MP 24 mm Main | 12 MP 13 mm Ultra Wide | 12MP 120 mm Telephoto) carefully place the included 52 mm magnetic filter adapter ring in the aperture from the cage that aligns with the 120 mm Telephoto lens. This specific adapter ring is designed to only be placed in that spot from this cage. Be careful when aligning the filter adapter ring so when twisted clockwise doesn't remain too loose or seem too tight or forced to fit. Hope this helps so you don't get to see the reflection of the adaptor in the recording.
Question: notice that you didn’t mention any misalignment with the filter mount- did your version come with a filter mount that aligns correctly with the cameras built in lenses?
Hello Everyone, I have a question, I want to buy a case from Brendan Li with handles and I wanted to know if these Freewell lenses are suitable for case, it is very important for me to know what connectors are on the back side of the lenses from Freewell, if it fits, please let me know if not, what kind of adapter do I need to buy for this? or a removable adapter for this case and this set of lenses Freevel Kinematic 1.33?
Ok but what about adding a mic ? Sure an add a usbc hub now it’s turning into a joke just use a real Dslr . I have iPhone 15 max pro and the cage . But until the make a compact usbc splitter that allows you to plug a SSD and a mic Then it’s still kind of a toy

Yeah, I've been trying to find ways of getting around paying for the 1TB version of the phone, but in the end i think its worth it.

Is there any smallrig cage that fits on iphone 14 pro max and have quick release handles?? Thanks very much!!

Hey Norman, hhhhmmmmm. Let me double check mine here …
Just checked. Works fine for me. Have you the use Bluetooth option turned on in the accessories section (in the settings)
@@VicBarryyes tried everything. It works with the Filmic Pro app and the Moment app but not with Black Magic…??????
@@VicBarry yes
Might be worth repairing the little Bluetooth shutter and reinstalling the Blackmagic app
Great video, thanks! which right angle are you using? I've bought one but it's very short.

New to this but can you attach lights and a tripod easily? Any recommendations with this set up?
Purchased one from B&H and one of the handles wouldn’t secure properly. They sent mea second one in exchange. Same problem. I gave up.
Really? Wow, that's painful.
Hi Vic, thank you !

Some anamorphic lenses have a filter mount you can add to front of it.
what about wireless mic.. the case blocks the mic?

Appreciate that

The nd filter causes reflections and it creates a gap when covering the .5 lense and you can see the adaptor on that lense. Major fault
The other flaw with these cages is that they leave the phone unprotected. By the time you're done filming, the phone will be scratched up.
It didn't look like the filter covered all of the lenses
Question: notice that you didn’t mention any misalignment with the filter mount- did your version come with a filter mount that aligns correctly with the cameras built in lenses?
Hey 👋 haven’t had any issue with alignment.
Anybody knows how's the audio recording quality when we have the case mounted on the iphone?

VERY COOL
How would you conect an external microphone to the phone if you are recording to the hdd unless Apple have returned the 3.5mm jack
Use a usbc hub with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
or only use one handle
Nice one
Thanks 🔥
