Dear Manuela, I am SO sorry to hear that. I can understand, I lost mine just over than 2 years ago, and it leaves you feeling empty ... and rather helpless. I was busy working on this music during my mother's last few months, and although she never got to see and hear the final album, I did used to take her CDs of my "work in progress", and she died peacefully listening to one of these CDs playing on the stereo beside her bed. I was there too. The last section of this piece Improv-Impromptu is named after her ... "Stella's Waltz". I first learned to love the piano as she would always play to relax after she had put me to bed when I was very young ...... 2-3 years old, and I eventually persuaded her to teach me. So there was a beautiful circle completed when she died listening to me playing for her. Music has always brought me comfort all of my life. Whatever problems and difficulties you may have, music never lets you down. It is a constant friend, always there, completely reliable. I am very happy if my music helps you get through this dreadful period in your life. I am sure everyone will tell you, you never get over this, but with time you do learn to live with it a little more peacefully, the pain does subside ... a bit. In your remembering, try to concentrate on the life, not the death. Celebrate the joy and the fun and all the good times that you had together. These are the memories that will remain with you. Dear Beverley, forgive me for such a delay in responding, I only saw your message just now. Wonderful to hear that you too went to RCM, though a few years after me!! I do hope the experience was as inspiring to you as it was to me. Are you still singing?? Where? I was lucky enough to go there on Saturdays as a junior when I was just 12 years old, and in those early years found myself part of a very close group of friends, that have remained so for over 50 years now!! 3 or 4 times a year we try and meet up for an evening, though of course recent meetings have been relegated to the dreaded ZOOM ...... better than nothing. It is amazing that our friendships have remained exactly the same in all that time. Whenever we meet, it seems that no time at all has passed since those golden years full of expectation and wonder. How was it for you?
@@GeoffWestleyPiano thanks So much for responding at all! - RCM seems a long time ago now! but it was a very exciting time with the privilege of doing what I loved most with people who felt the same - I don’t know if the opera school was there when you attended? but I was in a couple of productions with them then PG with Trinity College and off to Banff Centre whilst auditioning for roles at ENO - unfortunately I was taken ill at that point and decided to move back to Hampshire and train as a psychological therapist which I did for 25 years which was also satisfying and had its share of drama! now retired and writing romantic and futuristic fiction and poetry (not published) and designing a veg garden! - are you composing anything at present? How do I find out about new works? or performances when that happens again - Stay safe and wonderfully creative! Bev
@@beverleyprice7468 Dear Bev, Lovely to hear more about you, and about our dearly-beloved Alma Mater. I was lucky enough to go there as a Junior from the age of 12, and it completely changed my life. I grew up in Chislehurst and went to school in Sidcup, and frankly, in my early-teens moved around a bit with some slightly dodgy people. Once at RCM all of my social life was centred there. The Opera school was there, but the singers had their table at one end of the canteen ….. I remember Tom Allen being very noticeable, and also clearly rather good - didn’t the boy do well!! So the singers were a race apart from the instrumentalists, and there seemed to be no cross-fertilisation at all, even of the most innocent kind. And the Opera Theatre was there and working, though I did visit again about 4 years ago, and it is all very new and fab and shiny. I am so sorry that the singing let you down with your illness, but it sounds like you have had quite a busy time in any case, and right now is not a good time to be a professional musician!!! But have you continued singing in some capacity? I do hope you didn’t just stop completely. But then, I stopped playing the flute as soon as I left college, even though it was my first instrument and they gave me a Scholarship on it. But life took me in a more interesting and ultimately more rewarding direction, all sparked off by a Summer Season I did on Clacton Pier with Dick Emery. But that is another story!!! So yes, I am ploughing away, and spent the lockdown writing a lot of new pieces that I will begin to record in a few weeks, then probably quite soon afterwards post a few of them on YT. I am going to Milan on Monday to talk to a publisher who is interested in printing and distributing the music this time, and hopefully helping me in other ways too. Well the first 2 bars of the piece are the same as the beginning of Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromptu in C#minor .... the same key. But then I continue with my own melody, though it is admittedly very much in the style of Chopin. That is why I gave it the title Improv-Impromptu ..... as an homage. I hope you like it.
