- Quetta (Pashto: کوټه; Balochi: کویٹہ+شال; Urdu: کوئٹہ;, formerly known as Shalkot (Pashto: ښالکوټ; Balochi: شال کوٹ), is the provincial capital and largest city of the Pakistani province of Baluchistan. It is also the 10th largest city in Pakistan. It was largely destroyed in the 1935 Quetta earthquake, but was rebuilt and has a population of 1,001,205 according to the census of 2017. Quetta is at an average elevation of 1,680 meters (5,510 feet) above sea level, making it Pakistan's only high-altitude major city. The city is known as the "Fruit Garden of Pakistan," due to the numerous fruit orchards in and around it, and the large variety of fruits and dried fruit products produced there.
Taftan (Urdu: تفتان) (Balochi: تفتا) is a trunk road and railway town in Chagai District, Balochistan, Pakistan. It is one of Pakistan's border crossings with Iran. It is by either road or rail over 500 km (310 mi) from Quetta. Passenger rail service is not operational from many years. Only freight Train runs between Pakistan Iran.
It is 62 kilometres (39 mi) northeast of the thermally active dark peak or small massif also called Taftan, wholly in Iran.
At its western extreme, the border crossing point of Iran is Mirjaveh.
Border crossing timing is 9 AM to 1 PM.
It is on the N40 road. This becomes the road 84 in Iran's system, and which meanders via Kerman to a number change west of Rafsanjan.
It is served by its railway station on the line commonly described as the Quetta-Taftan Line but which, since 1940, continues to Zahedan, Iran.
Distance between Quetta and Taftan is about 632 Kms, And Travel time is about 8-9 Hrs.
Buses are available from Quetta to Taftan from Gali No 2, Bus terminal Sariab Road Quetta. And from Taftan to Quetta, Main chowk Taftan.
Ticket price is about Pak Rs. 1200 (USD $ 6).
