【長崎／観光名所】グラバー園／長崎屈指の人気観光スポット - Glover Garden in NAGASAKI, JAPAN

グラバー園は、長崎県長崎市にある長崎を代表する観光地。
広い園内には、旧グラバー邸、旧リンガー邸、旧オルト邸の3つの洋館と、6つの歴史的建築物が保存されています。
グラバー邸は1863年に完成、現存する最古の洋風木造建築で、最初の和洋折衷建築といわれます。
また、これらは世界遺産「明治日本の産業革命遺産 製鉄・製鋼、造船、石炭産業」の構成資産となっています。
古くから国際貿易港として発展してきた長崎。
幕末の長崎開港後、幕府より正式に外国人の居住が認められ、この地に外国人居留地が誕生しました。
この時に建築された、グラバー、リンガー、オルトの3棟は、長崎港を一望する場所に建てられ、150年の時を超えて国の重要文化財に指定されています。
グラバー邸は、南山手の丘上の見晴らしのよい地に建っています。
グラバーの死後は、家族が相続しますが、昭和14年（1939年）、三菱重工業長崎造船所が取得しました。
その後、太平洋戦争終結後は、アメリカ進駐軍の司令官公舎として一時接収されたこともあります。
激動の幕末に、この居留地が暗躍の裏舞台となって時代を動かし明治維新へと繋がっていったのでした。
一方で、日本の近代化の陰の立役者として彼ら外国人の果たした役割も大きいものでした。

Glover Garden is located in Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture, and is one of Nagasaki's most popular tourist attractions.
In the large garden, there are three Western-style buildings, former Glover House, former Ringer House and former Ort House, and six historical buildings.
Completed in 1863, the Glover House is the oldest Western-style wooden building in existence and is said to be the first Japanese-Western architecture.
It is also a component of the World Heritage Site "Industrial Revolution Heritage of Meiji Japan: Iron and Steel Making, Shipbuilding, and Coal Industry.
Nagasaki has long developed as an international trading port.
After the port of Nagasaki opened at the end of the Tokugawa shogunate, the shogunate allowed foreigners to live there, and a foreign settlement was born here.
The three buildings built at this time, Glover, Ringer, and Alt, overlooking the port of Nagasaki, have been designated as National Important Cultural Properties of Japan over the past 150 years.
The Glover residence stands on a hilltop overlooking Minamiyamate.
After Glover's death, the family inherited the property, which was acquired by the Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in 1939.
Later, after the end of the Pacific War, it was temporarily confiscated as the official residence of the commander of the U.S. Occupation Forces.
At the end of the turbulent Edo period, this settlement became the backdrop for dark activities that moved the times and led to the Meiji Restoration.
On the other hand, these foreigners also played a major role as behind-the-scenes players in Japan's modernization.
