Why even roll for stats ? Just for a chance to roll bad stats. For this campaign Neal should just picked stats for players when he has plans for them and be done with it.
@@Nomad141I partially agree but 18 str completely destroys a campaign. That being said, he definitely should have been given 8 str at least. That being said tho just fucking run it. Would be fun to see an 18 str campaign
For those who may not know the legends of Malakai; Nick once killed a Chimera with a sling, 2 dogs, and Van Healsing, while playing a Wizard with actual crap HP, lol.
"The skies erupted and the seas invaded the land" is the new "storms came 😩💦 and the mountains rose 😳" and I'm looking forward to hear Koibs say it at least 3 times per session!
nick folding so hard on that 18 turning it into a 16 without even arguing was depressing to watch, didnt even ask to up his 7 to a 9 with trading the stats 😢
to be fair ive seen the opposite where players have had REALLY low stat roles traded/bumped up just because theyre so low. now its just happening the other way around !
I love this method of discovering "something strange". It's so subtle and really requires a local like Riven to discover it. And even if they aren't too ambitious about following up on it, I feel like these oddities might stack up over the course of a half-elf lifetime and maybe result in some kind of epiphany later on
Soooo lame to have the ability to roll a stat and not be able to use it. If you want everyone to be a standard deviation or so away from average, just change the system in how you roll to accomodate for that! I'm frustrated for Nick (even if he isn't) to see that happen. I understand the implications of having an incredibly high stat, particularly in strength, but allowing them to roll for it, and then taking away something that was fairly rolled just feels bad, even for some the ones watching!
If anyone has seen Detectorists, a UK show about a metal detecting club in a little village this is what I was imagining. I think for what I was imagining chairperson or spokesperson works well but its fine.

I'm going to love the event where they're trying to find their way around the island at night time and they can't see the mountain and get lost because no-one 'needed' to take direction sense lol
Now that I've watched the episode: What's the deal with the thumbnail picture? Is it a very abstract way of communicating "The wizard class is dead to Nick" / "he didn't pick wizard, this time"?
Really feels strange that Blacksmithing proficiency only costs 1 slot while Herbalism costs 2 slots. Blacksmithing is like a life-long skill that requires apprenticeship over like a decade to learn for both technique and form. But basic herbalism could technically be learnt just by studying books and taking walks in the forest. Seems like you should break herbalism up into single-skill proficiencies that you can stack and upgrade if you want to be more masterful at it. I get that Herbalism is quite powerful because it allows you to bring healing to the party, but you could always do something like require a dice roll to heal if you are a level 1 herbalist, and remove the dice roll for advanced level 2+ herbalists to balance it out a bit.
Also just to note, I feel like a Half-elf being non-binary kind of makes sense. Given that half elves are sterile, they might not have a huge connection to their gender that way, and then additionally, the elven half might make them more androgynous anyways. Just a cool point imo
@@danielsommerlykke9475 it seems like my answer is going to be obvious. . . Anyone who has passed an algebra class can create an equation of "acceptable" numbers. It just sucks for a player to roll and then be told that number is too high. I get that if Nick had rolled a 3 they would have had an identical conversation, but this is why there are so many systems for stats. Point buy, standard array, 3d6, 4d6d1, 2(3d6)th1 ect. If it was 3d6-2 that would also be fine as long as players are ok with it. Which Nick who did hardcore heros would probably be ok with that.
@zerzyheolstor4783 everyone in this reply chain has autism it's n9t that deep no reason to make another roll when dm and player trust each other and considering Tombs of scoria plus the other years of friendship they have trust
Rolling 3 two times on 3d6 is extremely unlikely - something close to 1/50000 vs something like 1/128 to roll an 18 on two rolls. I agree it was a dirtbag DM move from Neal though, what a party pooper.
Gets you +1 to hit off the bat but more importantly up to an additional +2 to hit and between +2 and +5! damage per attack. When the majority of characters roll d6 or d8 damage averaging 3.5 or 4.5 if you start adding +3 to that you are basically doubleing the damage output. its a huge advantage that the 18 in other stats just dont compare to.
I've watched probably 80% of everything in nealverse except the 60% of shenanigans I haven't finished yet. Nick's probably top 3 favorite players, but I've gotta say I'm really turned off by the non binary thing. I understand you can roleplay as something you're not (e.g. female or otherwise), and yeah androgyny fits the elf race, but it just didn't come across well this session. The big problem is that he wasn't able to stick to it with the pronouns, and I personally can't believe that Nick can really understand and represent a person with that worldview properly. It's cringe because I can't imagine a real person like that making even one (much less several) mistakes describing themselves so it really pulls me out, and I can't imagine the other guys are going to nail the execution on this either. I usually don't like this kind of thing in my indie media anyway because it's often not handled well, and the group is typically so great that I don't see the need to complicate things with this dynamic. I hope maybe he'll reconsider and just decide to be female or something. I'm worried this is just going to suck.... Ah well, even if this one thing is too cringe for me I'm sure I'll enjoy whatever comes after. And to the people upset about the stat adjustment thing, don't worry. It really can make things complicated and lame to have an 18 in strength specifically. Maybe it would've been cool to let another stat be 18, but you can trust Neal and this gang to make something cool with any stat rolls they choose.
@@hipumpus I guess you are american so I can see why you think its political but in my mind someone being non-binary is not a political statement. Not enough hotness roles
Why have them roll 3d6 and then tell them they cant keep 18, haha there are ways to make what you want. Standard, 3d5+2, 3d4+4 ect
