Were it not for the fact that Madilu had been around for a while, he would have given Mbilia Bel a run for 1983's revelation for the year award. He had made his debut as a nineteen-year-old in 1969 in a band called Symba. His earlier career included periods with Papa Noël's Bamboula, Les Etoiles, the Festival des Maquisards of Sam Mangwana, and Faugus Izeidi's Fiesta Populaire. In 1973, Madilu, guitarist Yossa Taluki, and a singer known as Pirès formed a band called Bakuba Mayopi (Mayopi came from the first two letters of each of their names). The group enjoyed moderate success, but never posed a threat to Kinshasa's first-tier bands.
After three years in Mayopi, Madilu quit to form his own group with an assist from Soki Vangu. He initially called it Orchestre Pamba-Pamba but soon changed the name to Madilu System. Although the band went nowhere, the name stuck to Madilu. In 1980, following two unhappy years with Tabu Ley's Afrisa, Madilu System joined O.K. Jazz. His inspired performance on 'Non' set his star ascending and assured his place at Franco's side.
Listening to Ok Jazz songs is so fascinating. It feels just the same as reading a very interesting novel as it's not just a song but a whole story. I reckon there aren't better life stories, told through music, than these ones anywhere else in the entire world!
I agree with you.
Sample FALLY JALOUX JALOUX. si vous, ecouter les retros congolais. Vous verrez que fally y prends des mélodie, des paroles 😊
