I laughed so hard when you said “y’all call it benefits, we just get them.” As my Italian teacher said, “gli americani vivono lavorare, non lavorano vivere.” (Americans live to work instead of working to live.)

It’s true! And how unfortunate the American mindset is that they talk negatively about countries that make family the priority, and that their governments actually help to take care of them if necessary. They call it laziness here in the USA. Unless you’re working yourself into the ground, no one respects you here. It’s a complete brainwashed situation. 😒

    • @MilwaukeeWoman
      @MilwaukeeWoman 2 роки тому +6

@@laundrybasket2689 Americans don't talk negatively about having a family, it's that too many of us (not me) think that you should be able to pay for expensive childcare, expensive healthcare, expensive college so you could have a high paying job, and have no government programs to help anyone but high paid people have families. These same Americans (again, not me) think that if you get pregnant with a child with special needs that will be very expensive to deal with, that you should still be able to afford all their healthcare costs on your own. And the worst of the types of Americans I'm describing (again, not me) think you shouldn't make the country less white by having children, so only white Americans should have children. They are not the majority, but they are about 40% and big business has been behind them and pays for advertisement and biased news to support their vision.
I'm 45 and never felt I could afford children and my husband and I are going to do our best to afford retirement instead. Bad nursing homes for the poor here have increased diagnosing elderly that have dementia with schizophrenia instead (by 170%) because they weren't allowed to sedate the dementia and Alzheimer patients but they are allowed to sedate the schizophrenic patients (that don't have schizophrenia) and therefore don't need as many employees and can make more money. Neither of us even have siblings so we're saving to try to wind up safe in our old age

@@MilwaukeeWoman I didn’t say Americans talk negatively about having a family; it’s that it’s not the top priority whereas money is. I agree with pretty much everything you said, it’s a terrible situation we face here in the states. But I also have seen the agenda of having less white children in the USA being pushed aggressively. They want mixed children and to wipe out the white race. If you’re a non-white, they encourage having as many kids as possible but if a white couple wants to do the same it’s seen as racist. Makes no sense. About as much sense as everything mentioned about this country expecting its citizens to be able to afford schooling all the way up through university and higher education, and your own healthcare, as well as having any child and not needing a single penny from the government, even if brutally necessary. It’s a harsh system here. I don’t blame you or anyone at all for not having kids in the USA because of very possible future financial difficulties. It’s far better to be able to afford your own retirement (your VERY LIFE) instead of having to also struggle to keep children fed and hospitalized if they needed it. I’m most likely going to end up in the same boat since I’m 39 and still unmarried. I don’t even think about kids anymore, life is hard enough here in the states for me to survive on my own.

god, it's so relieving as a very young adult to see someone actually talk like this about the future. so often in school and university and with friends and family, you get the sense that you need to pick what you want to do NOW, and you need to pick RIGHT, because you'll be stuck on that path FOREVER, and once you've started, you CANNOT change it. it's so nice hearing someone speak from experience saying "hey, the world isn't gonna end if you change your mind somewhere along the line" ❤️

TLDR 😂 Angie, double "yes" for a good life/work balance over being able to just afford more, consume more. 😊 And yay for not having to get up at 5am! This is a luxury for many people due to circumstances, and sleep is so important! Also, double "yes" for changing your mind about the kind of job you want to do. I did a complete career switch at 32 (which for my country is rather late), not because my previous job type wasn't rewarding, but because I realised I want to do something else that excites me and I'm also good at.
I have noticed that you've been getting some harsher comments since you hit 100K, and to my fellow UA-cam watchers, I'd say it's probably best to just not engage with spiteful comments - no downvoting or arguing with those people. It rarely amounts to any good - just increases the comment visibility. I've been doing that for a while now and it's much better for my mental health. Not to mention that Angie seems super mature and quite capable of handling this if she wants to. 👩‍🦰. Kudos, Angie!

It’s so great to hear that you are happier in your work life balance, thanks for talking about that. And thanks for all of the amazing content over the past year since I discovered you (and before that too I’d course since I also watch your old videos!) ♥️😘😘 Also, as an American I want to say that I wish we had a system more similar to yours in Sweden. We are all under such insane and unreasonable pressure to make sure we have things like basic healthcare and retirement, adn so many people have zero medical leave or vacation time. It makes it so hard to take the leap to switch careers or go back to school when we find ourselves unfulfilled or need a better situation for whatever reason. And god forbid you add young kids in need of childcare to the mix, *especially* for moms 👋🏻😬 I think we could all be so much more creative in our pursuits and happier in our lives if we didn’t have to worry as much about these things and could invest our time and emotional energy in a more positive direction.

Also when I was a young child I watched my own family loose their multi million dollar business and never want anyone to have to choose btwn eating or medication, etc. Sometimes small tweaks in finances or insurance can make or break your life! It's okay and normal to have a "hustle" period of our life, maybe even more than one. For me the problem has been when instead of being a period it became a lifestyle and then I needed to hit the breaks. Working hard for some time to get your act together and have a more comfortable life soon is not something bad. The question is - how long is it okay for you to keep that up :)

    Angie, you're a legend.
I became self-employed a couple of years ago (I'm single too so I can't really rely on anyone's support in case something gets wrong). I can totally feel you on this struggle between lacking stability and benefits and all this freedom, when you can just spontaneosly go somewhere, arrange your own schedule and stuff. I also found that with a solid buffer (even if it's not so big) you can feel invincible. I do sometimes have a bit of anxiety about what's next, but so far I feel like I'm managing it well and I'd hate to get back to work under somebody's supervision in the office.
All the best to you and your husband and good luck with the moving ❤️

This is why I love you and your videos Angie... Thank you for stressing the importance of saving for if shit hits the fan, having backup plans/other plans in place for when things do go wrong. And THANK YOU for emphasizing the importance of work life balance. It's so uncommon here in America. As someone else mentioned: Americans live to work instead of working to live. While an undergrad I was studying constantly, working 60 plus hours about half the year. Now I'm done with my studies, have an amazing job with a great work/life balance and will never look back. I told my husband I would like us to find another means to build a second source of income (via UA-cam or something - I also looked into real estate but I don't feel like dealing with the headache of tenants lol). But I keep stressing to him the importance of saving, especially for retirement. It's sadly not taught or emphasized here, and I know we cannot count on what we call Social Security for when we go to retire. And I just want to ensure when the day comes that we are older and want to retire that we can do so without worry. I'll be honest: I know I'll get stir crazy and couldn't sit at home 24/7 doing nothing. But at least if we prepare for retirement I could volunteer at animal shelters (basically my dream retirement lol) or work part time if we wanted just to get out of the house, stay active, etc.
It's also so nice to hear you talk about growing, changing, and finding new paths/things to do as you get older. Someone else mentioned below about how here there's such a pressure to pick what you want to do for the rest of your life the second you graduate high school and go into University. I can tell you right now, I changed my degree three times before I settled on accounting. We all change as we get older (I know I am a far different person in my 30s then I was in my 20s). Passions change, life changes, and it's just so refreshing to hear and see you emphasize that. So sorry for the novel of a comment LOL

This is insane that school/parents put pressure on us to know what we want to do for the rest of our lives at such a young age. I though I knew what I was after but then some halfway through high school I changed my mind, yet I was already stuck with the subjects I chose when I was like 16. My mum pressured me to go to uni just for the sake of going to uni and I'm so glad I didn't listen - now when I go, I'll know that I won't be making a rushed decision. And if I change my mind a couple of years down the line? So be it!

I think you had a good point about saving money and spending money. Remembering how strict I had to be as a student with my money, once I entered to full-time work I initially was very focused on just saving as much as I could. Now few years from graduating I have actually understood that when you have a stable stream of income (which I know is a luxury these days) and after you have budgeted for mandatory living expenses and a percentage to a saving account it is okay to also spend money on yourself and live. There is no point in just working very hard and having a lot of money if you never get to enjoy your life.

Juggling two jobs at the same time is tiresome (I'm doing just that right now, with my 9to5 and Spanish/English lessons afterwards), so it is great to have an opportunity to get some of that time back. Such a realistic outlook on life and it's refreshing! Especially within You Tube. It's fine to get bored of it, moving onto something else but be honest and open about it. It always leaves a bad taste in my mouth when a UA-camr becomes rich and moves on but still pretends like they care about the platform, have half a foot in just in case. Just be frank, it's anyways obvious when someone comes in once a month or every two months with a sponsored content that they only keep YT on the backburner to earn money. Milk the cow but ask the cows consent 🤷🏻‍♀️

Man, this made me envious of Sweden. The cost of university in the US is so high that you’re almost always locked into whatever degree you choose, usually at a young age. And of course, healthcare is extremely expensive. Working a “normal” job, you typically get healthcare through your work at a discounted price - and that’s expensive already. But if you move to independent work like UA-cam, healthcare coverage is almost impossible to get an affordable rate. It’s also very common in the US to only get two weeks vacation per year in a normal job. It’s a lot of work but not a lot of money, and not a lot of benefits.
Every year I want more and more to move. It’s harder here than some people realize, that’s for sure.
