He's the only one who could ever do that song justice. Amazing voice indeed.
A song unheard by me before now but such a beautiful song and performance that it is now a favorite . 2 thumbs up
..... Best version for me, & nice change to hear vocal harmony in the chorus.
Class..
Danny Doyle (28 April 1940 - 6 August 2019) was an Irish folk singer.
a very good one too RIP
Thanks Gerry
Danny had a wonderful voice particularly for the great ballads..brilliant.
Raised on songs and stories, heroes of renown,
The passing tales and glories, that once was Dublin town,
The hallowed halls and houses, the haunting children's rhymes,
That once was Dublin city, in the Rare Oul Times.
Ring around the Rosie as the lights declines,
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times.
My name it is Sean Dempsey as Dublin as could be
Born hard and late in Pimlico in a house that ceased to be
My trade I was a cooper, lost out to redundancy
Like my house that fell to progress my trade's a memory
Ring around the Rosie as the lights declines,
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times.
The years have made me bitter, the gargle dims me brain
'Cause Dublin keeps on changing and nothing seems the same.
The Metropole and Pillar are gone, the Royal long since pulled down
As the grey unyielding concrete makes a city of my Town.
Ring around the Rosie as the lights declines,
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times.
Fare thee well sweet Anna Liffey, I can no longer stay,
And watch the new glass cages, that spring up along the quay,
My mind's too full of memories, to old to hear new chimes,
I'm a part of what was Dublin, in the Rare Oul Times.
Ring around the Rosie as the lights declines,
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times.
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times.
He had such a musical voice - The lyrics just spilled out emotive and sadly beautiful... RIP in Peace Danny, you were a legend.
This song is on a album named Another feast of Irish folk, I have had the album for 32 years(vinyl). Its available on Amazon.:)
This is the best recording of this song. No wonder it knocked ABBA off the no 1 spot. RIP Danny Doyle
I loved this song as a child listening to my Mother explaining the places he sings about that are all gone but it's only now it really resonates with me thinking back on everything that's disappeared over my lifetime, very moving listening now😢❤
May God rest his beautiful soul, which is clearly expressed, through the rendition of those great songs, in his repertoire.
Danny Doyle one Irelands Great R I P
The beautiful voice of The great Danny Doyle...no one sings it quite like him.....
Brilliant version Danny rip
Played this for many years - the only version that ever came close was by Paddy Reilly!
The only version that truly captures the sense of nostalgia. Beautiful song.
Love his voice,RIP Danny.
I remember hearing this song (this version) being played on the Arsenal bus while returning from Wembley to their hotel after beating Man Utd in the FA Cup Final in 1979. I wasn't on the bus - it was in the days when the BBC would milk FA cup final day for all it was worth for a good 7 hours. I'm a plastic paddy and lived in London. That summer I went on holiday to Ireland and everyone was singing it and every radio station playing it. Aaah I'd love to go back to that time for just a day. Rest in Peace Danny Doyle.
The Dublin that the song rues the arrival of, has long since given way to a less attractive and romantic one.
