I was surprised that I got them all right. I could definitely tell the difference between the clean sounds of the single coils from the bell like tones and the thicker midrange from the humbuckers when the guitars became distorted.
One for sixteen. The main thing I learned is that if you’re running distortion you should pick your guitar based on how it plays rather than on how it sounds, assuming you’re choosing between these four, because the difference is pretty minimal. He could have repeated one of the guitars in that section and I doubt anyone would have noticed that the same instrument had been played twice. My listening was an IPad and a pair of beyerdynamic DT770 pros.
I don't know why but to me a Les Paul with distortion is instantly recognizable. The Neck pickup on a strat sounds a bit more muddy and scooped than the one on a Strat. But HONEST TO GOD... That Ibanez was a troublemaker xD
I don't own an electric guitar so I really took this test seriously to rate the sound I liked best. I had a point system and i listened through the whole segment of each test then went back and listened again, rating the sound on each one, then added the points at the end. Some tests i pretty much couldn't tell any difference so i had to really strain to differentiate. Turns out, the strat and Les Paul tied for #1, then Ibanez, with tele finishing last. I've always loved the look of a les paul, so that's the tiebreaker. I'll get a les paul style tho, since I dont have tons of money laying around. Probably Wolf or maybe Grote.
I'm actually dying right here: I literally picked the fourth sound as HEAVENLY, and it's the Les Paul. I was doubting whether or not to buy the Epi LP, but now I must say there's no doubt about it anymore 🤣😆thank you for this video!
I got the Strat and the Tele backwards on the second and the fourth riffs. I found it very easy to recognize the Les Paul immediately, and the Ibanez with the humbuckers was also fairly easy to tell apart from the two Fender guitars, but distinguishing between the Strat and the Tele was harder. Strange, because I always thought I loved the Tele and had something against the Strat, but it turns out that’s mostly in my head.
Holy shit, I nailed it. Knowing what the pickups sound like, especially differentiating between humbucker and single coil, helps a lot. The telecaster tone is simply unmistakable, as is the strat, I had more problems with the Ibanez and Gibson, which says a lot about the quality of that Ibanez. At the end, decided that the muddier one was the Gibson. (cool story bro)
kambion wow, I was the complete opposite! I could very easily tell which was the Gibson and which was the Ibanez, but struggled to differentiate between the tele and the strat.
Thanks for making this video! Really helpful. Could definitely tell the Les Paul and Ibanez apart from each other and the Fenders, but got a little mixed up between Strat and Tele when there was no signature Strat quack. Love the tone of the Tele in all clean tests.
got the Gibson every time, Ibanez twice, Strat 1 time I thought the Rg and Strat sounded more alike on some of the tests and as always you can tell the Tele twice well most times but it was a little bit confusing with the Strat and also with the RG also. but I been playing 54 yrs and I can tell you why I can choose the LP most times. if you want to know Darrell Braun? just ask? I'm a LP guy but just today I bought a Ibanez RG. My 3rd Ibanez over the years. I love the Strat and played one for years but never considered a tele but it sounded great. they all sounded great and you did a phenomenal job!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been a musician for 12 years and the.fender stratocaster has always been my 1sr choice but it depends on your taste and what you play fenders country blues funk well, Gibson makes good guitars but there not for me more rock and hard types of music and ibanezs usual are used for metal and extreme music you can you any guitar for any style those are just common trends
To me, a Stratocaster is a better guitar for blues and blues based rock, whereas a Les Paul is better for hard rock and metal. Telecaster is very versatile , but mostly used for country and blues, Ibanez gives a great sound in certain genres, but is not my favorite. You have to have technique like Steve Vai to make one sing like he does.
Since I don't have any guitar experience I just used this test to identify the tone I liked the most. Test#1 Ibanez; Test#2 Ibanez; Test#3 Telecaster; Test#4 Telecaster; The funniest part is that I just ordered my first guitar a few hours ago but it's a Squier Bullet Stratocaster
The result for me was... 1 - I liked how the Les Paul sounded on the first one 2 and 3 - I liked how the Ibanez RG Premium sounded 4 - I liked how the Telecaster sounded So, in other words Ibanez sounded really good to my ears.
1: All correct. 2: 2 of 4 correct. 3: 1 of 4 correct. 4: 2 of 4 correct. Fat overdrive certainly made it the hardest to guess, though. I was half-guessing there.
I guessed which ones were hum-buckers and which ones were single coils correctly for all but the first one. Differentiating between les Paul and RG vs Strat and Tele was definitely harder.
A surprising result for me! Normally, I like the dark tone of Strats and Les Pauls. I took this test to see which guitar would sound better to me. I was also curious if I could spot the Strat. Interestingly, not only did I fail to recognize the Strat, but in all the tests, the best-sounding guitar turned out to be the Telecaster, and the one I eliminated every time was the Les Paul. Thanks for the video! Your stuff never gets old.
Surprised how close I was with the exception of the #3, third one I was saying Definitely the Tele. Said on the last set the Gibson and Ibanez were in exactly the same order. But yes, even with listening twice, it was difficult to discern anything. A little deeper on the lower open string on the short scale. Brightness of neck single coil.
20 years playing and I only got the Strats right (that's what I play) and mixed up Strat and Tele on one of them. The last example with distortion was the one where I got all of them right... because I can't stand the sound of distortion with single coils. ;) This is certainly not a test that a guitar player MUST pass. This is a fantastic video for showing that obsession over gear and gear lust for guitars you cannot afford is completely nonsensical. Just play a guitar that is comfortable and sounds good to you. If it has cheap electronics upgrade the pickups. Easy!
My eyes need Lespaul, my hands need Ibanez, My ears need Telecaster, my wallet needs Stratocaster

heavy distortion is the only one i got 100%
The Ibanez shines through in heavy distortion for me. :3
I nailled the Ibanez in the 2 distorsion tapes... I think that hard HB sound is easy to tell, especially in the second sound test
you can't mistake the distorted sound from the bridge pick up of a strat lol i own a strat myself and i think it's the worst you can get from it
+godless times I agree. I don't like my Strat single coil bridge sound at all. I never use it.
I got the first and last bang on the middle two were partially right
That was a lot more difficult than I imagined, great video!
+SaberSongs Glad you liked it :)
I did good on the first and last test.

XxIvancraftXx Tutoriales y mas What?
XxIvancraftXx Tutoriales y mas says the one who uses "Xx" in their username.
Damn it, mixed up the Ibanez and Strat for the first one... So close
Me too.
I'm a Fender man. Got 🇺🇸 strat....my next is 🇺🇸 professional 2 telecaster 👍‼️
So I was trying to see which guitar I liked the best and it was the fender Stratocaster
Probably Wolf or maybe Grote.
did u end up getting it?
epiphone les pauls are good for begginers
I'm actually dying right here: I literally picked the fourth sound as HEAVENLY, and it's the Les Paul. I was doubting whether or not to buy the Epi LP, but now I must say there's no doubt about it anymore 🤣😆thank you for this video!
I always chose Ibanez, very balanced sound. Can you tell me about this ibanez's specs?
I got the Strat and the Tele backwards on the second and the fourth riffs. I found it very easy to recognize the Les Paul immediately, and the Ibanez with the humbuckers was also fairly easy to tell apart from the two Fender guitars, but distinguishing between the Strat and the Tele was harder. Strange, because I always thought I loved the Tele and had something against the Strat, but it turns out that’s mostly in my head.
test 1: all right
test 2: 1 right
test 3: 2 right
test 4: all right
Guess I sort of know my tones? XD
I got the first tet almost right, the second I was awfully wrong, the 3rd and 4t was perfectly right!
awesome video btw
I could tell the difference between single coil and humbucker but had a tougher time distinguishing strat from tele
Thanks for making this video! Really helpful. Could definitely tell the Les Paul and Ibanez apart from each other and the Fenders, but got a little mixed up between Strat and Tele when there was no signature Strat quack. Love the tone of the Tele in all clean tests.
got the tele right every time. The rest was a big mess :D Good Test!
+volltroll Hahaha, yeah it is tough!
Im stunned! Been preaching Gibson sound forever and I picked Fender all 4 times!
Ooopssss!!
I got everything right except for the heavy distortion.
Tele's are the 🐐
With distortion is easy to tell which one is the humbucker and the single coil
got the Gibson every time, Ibanez twice, Strat 1 time I thought the Rg and Strat sounded more alike on some of the tests and as always you can tell the Tele twice well most times but it was a little bit confusing with the Strat and also with the RG also. but I been playing 54 yrs and I can tell you why I can choose the LP most times. if you want to know Darrell Braun? just ask? I'm a LP guy but just today I bought a Ibanez RG. My 3rd Ibanez over the years. I love the Strat and played one for years but never considered a tele but it sounded great. they all sounded great and you did a phenomenal job!!!!!!!!!!!
Oooh I picked my favorite sound for each test and all of them were the Ibanez RG Premium! Maybe I should start learning the guitar😂😂
I was picking the ones that sounded best to me and I ended up with all 4 no repeats smh
I played for 1 month n I could only find my Stratocaster's tone.
i snagged the les pauls pretty well. Very warm nnd thick. ibanez and strat were tough
Same, you're not crazy.
I got the Les Pail right on all of them. The G string tuning issue gave it away every time.
my guesses:
test 1:
tele
ibanez
strat
les paul
test 2:
les paul
ibanez
tele
strat
test 3:
les paul
ibanez
tele
strat
I'm not musician, but in all blind tests the sounds i've liked are made with fender...:)
hahaha lol 😁
Yup, got them all wrong. ^^
Since I don't have any guitar experience I just used this test to identify the tone I liked the most.
Test#1 Ibanez; Test#2 Ibanez; Test#3 Telecaster; Test#4 Telecaster;
The funniest part is that I just ordered my first guitar a few hours ago but it's a Squier Bullet Stratocaster
The result for me was...
1 - I liked how the Les Paul sounded on the first one
2 and 3 - I liked how the Ibanez RG Premium sounded
4 - I liked how the Telecaster sounded
So, in other words Ibanez sounded really good to my ears.
Spotted the Strat in all tests! I can rightfully claim the title of a Strat player now I guess lol
+Axemarloe Absolutely!
Haha to balance the bragging out I did get the humbuckers wrong a couple times, even mixing em up with the tele on the one with the highest gain.
OMG I got all 4 right after they were distorted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm freaking out XD!!!!!
Suprisingly got it right on the distortion tones.
+Frank Homma Nice! 😉👍
same
Strat bridge PUP never seems to thicken even with distortion.
1: All correct.
2: 2 of 4 correct.
3: 1 of 4 correct.
4: 2 of 4 correct.
Fat overdrive certainly made it the hardest to guess, though. I was half-guessing there.
Very useful! II got 7 out of 16, obviously I‘ve got a lot of ear training left to do. Some of them really surprised me when I was 100% sure
I was able to get the les paul correct every time.
Mine:
1: les paul
2:stratocaster
3:telecaster
4:stratocaster.
I'll definetely buy a strat as first electric guitar
13/16, 81%. not bad.
+Timothy Munoz That is excellent!
+Darrell Braun Guitar thanks!
I guessed which ones were hum-buckers and which ones were single coils correctly for all but the first one. Differentiating between les Paul and RG vs Strat and Tele was definitely harder.
Got my fenders right! Less familiar with Ibanez and Gibson but when the tone is clean Tele's and strats have a very distinct ring to their sound.
Wow I really know my Fender guitars :)
got right my les paul everytime
what i did learn is i had the les paul as my least favorite nearly every time. that was interesting.
5 years playing and only got 30% of all. i quit
20 years playing and I only got the Strats right (that's what I play) and mixed up Strat and Tele on one of them.
The last example with distortion was the one where I got all of them right... because I can't stand the sound of distortion with single coils. ;)
This is certainly not a test that a guitar player MUST pass. This is a fantastic video for showing that obsession over gear and gear lust for guitars you cannot afford is completely nonsensical. Just play a guitar that is comfortable and sounds good to you. If it has cheap electronics upgrade the pickups. Easy!
