Corpsman here. Excellent kit and I love how it’s waterproof. I definitely recommend having a second 14ga needle D. They’re light and small, plus easy to pack. If your casualty doesn’t have a pulse, your last ditch effort can be a bilateral needle D, which could fix them. They’ve found a lot of patients that died in combat could have been fixed with this intervention.

I carry an IFAK this every day. I have one in my car and one in my pocket. Only have wrap, CAT, compression bandage, and quick clot but I have it for car accidents, construction accidents, and gunshot wounds. Even in my little town we get those now and it is awful.
One of the most important things is to learn how to properly use the F/A kit prior to attaching it to your gear. WAY too many people carry them and have no idea how to use it. Maybe a video on each individual piece in the kit, whats needed, whats not needed and how to use it properly.
I conducted random inspections on my guys. I found tourniquets still in the plastic wrapper. Some kits had chew tins and skittles where bandages should have been. Docs job is to keep the kiddies on the straight and narrow, so they can survive and complete their mission.

Well done! Outstanding advice. As a med guy, former FMF corpsman, current CRNA (NOT 18D), I can't over emphasize the importance of having tourniquets and multiple ways to cover and keep pressure on open wounds. The SOF T wide was appreciated by the surgical staff because it was, well, wide.. It spreads the pressure over a larger area. FYI Tourniqet pain sets in after 45 min or so and can be excruciating. Also, when you release the thing, all the old, un-oxygenated blood (and other "bad humors") distal to the wound will return to circulation. Expect significant drops in blood pressure. This can be a bitch if the pt is already in shock.

You know, the food saver vacuum pack is a pretty good idea. Not only waterproof and getting almost all the air out but it will condense everything also. I like it.👍🏼

Great point to carry several C.A.T.s quickly accessible. I agree all IFLAK kit supplies should be water proof bagged. I'm just a regular guy. But imho you can never carry enough water and ammo. But I'll add more C.A.T.s to my kit. Thanks for info and your service.
I do this, at home. Ziploc freezer bags, are resealable, so they are good for protecting the supplies that you do not use. The cost is much less than that really nice custom kit that you order. I would ask them to include a 1 gallon Ziploc freezer bag in the kit to save what you did not have to use when you open your kit.
You can also get them vacuum seal bags, that you can reseal after opening, you can also use a vaccum sealer, like the ones you have in the kitchen to keep you stuff tight. Every Penny Counts.

I'm not a door kiscker, but I still like to collect Gucci'd out kit, but I think if regular guys or former service vets, such as myself, want to collect kit, we should look into accumulating IFAK's very early on. I've already had to bust mine out at car accidents. I have one of those LBT/BFG blow out packs in the Small of my back like Jason showed in his war belt video. I also have one of those new attach panel style chest rigs with another, almost full, IFAK in the pockets of it, and I'm still debating getting one of these in the plate bag set ups. Great video. I’ve always been curious about how the teams keep their gear dry while diving. Especially at deeper depths. Other than dry bags of course. Could you guys maybe do a video on waterproofing your firearms and ammo? I’d also like to know what kind of maintenance, cleaning techniques and products you utilize to combat salt water corrosion? Ammo is already waterproof. Military ammo has extra waterproofing around the primer and neck because the ammo might sit in storage for decades in high humidity. You don't need to waterproof a firearm. Water doesn't hurt guns. Sitting in the air after getting wet is what causes rust. Just clean them as soon as you can, and a good barrier coat like GunKote or Barricade goes a long way for rust protection, especially around salt. Your sweaty body will rust a gun faster than water will. A few drops of oil on a rag followed by a good wipedown does wonders. But if you are in a sandy, dirty environment it will attract crud. That's why Barricade and GunKote are good, because they dry after being applied.
I've heard of 18D on deployment started carrying blood transfusion kits behind their plates in a similar fashion. Aside from that, as a medic, I will typically elect to use items on my kit since I've trained to use that out of muscle memory. My casualty's IFAK will end up staying with me after they're evacuated so I can use as it as a resupply. Reason being, a few of my guys carry IFAKs that they bought and since I'll be unfamiliar with the layout, it can waste precious seconds of be digging to find what I need. Last point I'll make is that if you do purchase your own IFAK, speak with your medic or corpsman to make sure it has at least the minimum required equipment and that nothing is expired. Stay safe!

If you team guys used it, that's all the validation that it works. Side-note, this reminds me of a kit Phokus Research Group put out a few years back. Similar concept.
Great Video. I run a piece of 550 cord through the tab on mine (I use Phokus Labs) that I tie into a loop and lock up in the velcro. That way I can just pull on the cord instead of having to dig up under the plate.
Great idea to have them placed behind the plates. I recently teased John Lovell on his latest video over his decision to place critical gear, even life saving gear on his plate carrier in areas that will get destroyed if shot.
When was the last time you were shot? Way more likely to need the kit than taking one to the plate. Not to mention good plates (LVL IV, ESAPI )are multi hit.
You won't realise just how badly you needed that kit until you lost it from getting shredded by gunfire. DON'T be THAT guy who keeps their ability to call for assistance on their chest. DON'T be THAT guy who gets lost because their navigation equipment was stored on their chest. DON'T be THAT guy who has parts of their IFAK automatically inserted into their abdomen. DON'T be THAT guy who likes to wear all their grenades and smokes on the chest. So just don't be that guy who turns a really bad situation into a cluster fuck because they were to lazy.
I would love to carry an IFAK out in the field when im hunting. 90 mins from the nearest hospital and no cell signal means self rescue is the only option.
StreetMachine18 Do it, it's a smart thing to do. I know guys, myself included who carry one hunting, hiking, or even in the car daily. You never know when it could be needed or who's life it could save. Get some training on it as well.
StreetMachine18 I elk hunt in Colorado backcountry, in fact I will be out there this Friday. I carry the Halo chest seals and the tourniquets. The chest seals don’t actually have to be used on the chest, but they work great on any serious puncture wound. Two seasons ago I have a buddy fall and have a branch from a dead fall tree punctured his lower leg through and though, and we pulled his leg out and sealed both holes with the halo seals and he was able to walk out on it-barely.
You should have an IFAK in your car as well for random accidents and happen stance. In a serious car accident a TQ and some quick clots could save someone's life. TQ won't help much on a head wound but what can ya do. Anything helps. You really can't go wrong having medical kits ... well, pretty much everywhere.
Jason. Cool kit. Recommend using only vented chest seals now. We changed it, so we're not creating a tension pneumothorax, the #2 killer on the battlefield. Cheers
That is a very good idea. On mine I'm going to add a red flat lanyard duct taped to the bag with a loop just big enough to put 2 fingers thru it to pull it out of the pouch. If your hands or gloves have blood on them, it may be too slippery to pull on the plastic bag.
You mentioned two items I have not seen listed as part of the standard IFAKs for the USAF, USMC and Army. These two items are: Oral Re-hydration Packets 14 gauge catheter The other gem was making sure your gear is protected against water as needed. Also interesting that you choose a grease pen when others list a sharpie. Thank you.

I am going to use your kit first. Honestly I don’t think I would find it. Now a red sharpie can solve this. I would just like some indication of where it is. But frankly if my fat ass is in a shitty part of the world where you and your team are not conscious enough to tell me where it is that is some shit for the history books. I have to build my own first aid kid (ifak) since I have often forgotten my main medical kit in the car. I have used a chocolate eggshell and it has gone pretty well. The experience makes me too confident for short walks to the point it can hurt :( I noticed I tend to intentionally forget my main medical kit in the car to save weight because "I can always jump back for it if needed". By "short walks" I mean mountain trips for 1-2 kilometers away from the car. I have used to consider this a small distance but suddenly realized that depending on the injury it could turn to a "far distance". Then I have started thinking of a solution. I have researched all mini medical kits. But then a problem occurs! As a difference to my mine medical kid where I have pills especially selected to my problems and often injuries all the kits that are sold out are with too basic equipment (bands, cotton, etc). I realized I already have these basics and could build my own kit. But in that kit, I'll add all the pills and tools I need. First I needed to find a stable and small enough box for it. Luckily my kids love chocolate eggs and I had a few plastic eggshells around. Get my main medical kit and start working. And tadaa! I believe I have prepared one of the smallest and full IFAK kits ever. (update: I have recently cut myself in the forest and this eggshell save me from bleeding) Here is what I've got in my pocket-size IFAK: Stomach help Active carbon Water purifying tablets Anty allergenic 2 x Safety Pins Hand sanitizer Straw Toothpaste Straw 3 x Bands Compressed Cotton Micro knife Do you have a mini IFAK with you? Just a quick side note on those commenting on keeping in an IFAK the TQ's and Quick Clot. Is anyone currently hearing of any local EMS services offering wound packing classes? That's a great place to start for beginners. If you can get into those classes. WP'ing may also be more efficient in a bleed out situation. TQ's do not always save the day on all bleed outs.

Nice Video. Personally I switched from the halo chest seals to the hyfin sets. They have a set thats got one vented and one not. Its just nice to have that so you don't have to sit there burping a CS. Just a personal preference and a shout out for some new stuff to try and check out from a FMF Doc. Peace!
Jason didn't mention one item that is normally in all IFAK. A compression bandage, normally a Israeli or the newer style OLAES. I also like the compressed gauze by North American Rescue (NAR) which provides this 6-ply sterile, compressed gauze (about 4 yards), vacuum packed into a small vacuum rectangle.
@@TacticalRifleman With the vacuum packing on the compassion bandages, = small size, and being to quickly apply them to a verity of wounds, especially the OLAES, make them extremely useful on combat type wounds.

I’m just an LEO wife, rest trauma RN who loves to shoot but understands my “go” bag must be ready if SHTF. I’ve packed so many kits for buddies, ensured they knew how to use them but never once thought about loading my body armour! Feeling like a numpty so thanks. Can’t agree w/ you enough on tournies. If you’ve got room, pack em in. I use an airtight Israeli tournie that is sterile as well. I’m a little ocd on sterility LOL. Yesss....I know...it’s a NOW site and not a forever situ, if needed but they rock. Keep up the vids and again, thx. This might all be 2nd nature to you but my clinical mind needs to meld with in the field mentality and this helped me rethink a few things. Great video guys, by any chance can we get the sites that have the IFAKs that you guys obviously without the dot com due to the draconian policy hoops you have to jump through. Also if you know any EMTs or medics that could explain basics that everyone should know and get training for with an IFAK to your 100 mile long video list.
I recommend you take a look at a cutting device that I have supplied to my son when he was operating out of Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti. He had been using small medical scissor to cut clothing, tape and other items. I found the device I sent in a police departments ITK. Cutting device I sent is a Klever Kutter KCJ. I think they were designed to be used to cut items in a commercial situation, like boxes, but because small size and excellent cutting ability work great in medical treatment. They are very small and they work well on most items that have to be cut during any field medical treatment. They come in numerous colors & I purchased a 5 pack on Amazon for about $10.00. Check them out.
With Amazon Prime was able to ship to his duty station for free. Really cool to be able to get a product he needed shipped to Djibouti Africa for no charge.

I am very very close to completing a downsized IFAK that will fit in a magazine pouch, not waterproof but user friendly and frees up real estate on plate carrier.

Thoughts on Ciprofloxacin Tablets 250 mg (NSN 6505-12-337-5719) (10 tablets) ? If i remember and am informed right they are part of german military IFAKs. If i remember right they are taken early to counter infections down the TCCC line.

I never quite understood behind the plate IFAKs... Maybe it's just not for the type of stuff I do. With all the "fun" rounds floating around in the market now I don't want both my plates and IFAK penetrated. If it works for you and/or SEALS and other guys that's great... But... Maybe I'm not high speed enough for that.
the whole team should carry their ifak in the same spot so everyone isn't searching your kit for your medical supplies. anything extra you want to carry is fine sticking here and there.
I carry a first aid kit with stuff I am not qualified to use because there may be someone qualified to use it nearby. There are a lot of doctors and nurses out there in everyday life.

Tactical Rifleman Thanks for your reply. Since there isn't much of a cost difference I went ahead and bought some vented chest deals. I think I could handle burping the wound if I noticed major major elevation changes, or the victim having trouble breathing, or any other signs of a tension pneumothorax. However, not having any first hand experience, I felt the more idiot proof chest seals were the way to go for me. For under $20 a pair, I figured I'd just pick up two pair. I feel it's important to keep both tourniquets and chest seals, as well as hemostatic agents such as Celox Z fold dressing and yes, even the granules on hand. In this day and age of violent crime I just feel it's a good idea. I've also seen some careless people at the range and want to be prepared in case some moron muzzle flashes someone and the weapon discharges. Truth be told, we often handle chainsaws here on the property, and a tourniquet can be a real life saver if there's ever an accident with one of them as well. I guess one point I'm trying to make is heading to your advice is not strictly for operators, but civilians such as myself would also be well advised to learn how to care for themselves, or others since any of us can become a first responder in an instant. Here's another question for you. I have several tourniquets, but I recently came across a new comer tourniquet put out by STAT Med Devices. I know they're a relative new comer, but they're not a cheap china made imitation of a CAT tourniquet and I feel they're worth taking a look at before everyone else finds out about them. Aside from that, as a medic, I will typically elect to use items on my kit since I've trained to use that out of muscle memory. My casualty's IFAK will end up staying with me after they're evacuated so I can use as it as a resupply. Reason being, a few of my guys carry IFAKs that they bought and since I'll be unfamiliar with the layout, it can waste precious seconds of be digging to find what I need. Last point I'll make is that if you do purchase your own IFAK, speak with your medic or corpsman to make sure it has at least the minimum required equipment and that nothing is expired. Stay safe!

Great Video. I run a piece of 550 cord through the tab on mine (I use Phokus Labs) that I tie into a loop and lock up in the velcro. That way I can just pull on the cord instead of having to dig up under the plate.

Great idea to have them placed behind the plates. I recently teased John Lovell on his latest video over his decision to place critical gear, even life saving gear on his plate carrier in areas that will get destroyed if shot.
When was the last time you were shot? Way more likely to need the kit than taking one to the plate. Not to mention good plates (LVL IV, ESAPI )are multi hit.
You won't realise just how badly you needed that kit until you lost it from getting shredded by gunfire.
DON'T be THAT guy who keeps their ability to call for assistance on their chest.
DON'T be THAT guy who gets lost because their navigation equipment was stored on their chest.
DON'T be THAT guy who has parts of their IFAK automatically inserted into their abdomen.
DON'T be THAT guy who likes to wear all their grenades and smokes on the chest.
So just don't be that guy who turns a really bad situation into a cluster fuck because they were to lazy.

I would love to carry an IFAK out in the field when im hunting. 90 mins from the nearest hospital and no cell signal means self rescue is the only option.
StreetMachine18 Do it, it's a smart thing to do. I know guys, myself included who carry one hunting, hiking, or even in the car daily. You never know when it could be needed or who's life it could save. Get some training on it as well.

StreetMachine18 I elk hunt in Colorado backcountry, in fact I will be out there this Friday. I carry the Halo chest seals and the tourniquets. The chest seals don’t actually have to be used on the chest, but they work great on any serious puncture wound. Two seasons ago I have a buddy fall and have a branch from a dead fall tree punctured his lower leg through and though, and we pulled his leg out and sealed both holes with the halo seals and he was able to walk out on it-barely.
2 way HAM comms, to hell with cell phones. SAT phones like Global Star are another option too but HAM is more reliable.
You should have an IFAK in your car as well for random accidents and happen stance. In a serious car accident a TQ and some quick clots could save someone's life. TQ won't help much on a head wound but what can ya do. Anything helps. You really can't go wrong having medical kits ... well, pretty much everywhere.
Jason. Cool kit. Recommend using only vented chest seals now. We changed it, so we're not creating a tension pneumothorax, the #2 killer on the battlefield. Cheers

That is a very good idea. On mine I'm going to add a red flat lanyard duct taped to the bag with a loop just big enough to put 2 fingers thru it to pull it out of the pouch. If your hands or gloves have blood on them, it may be too slippery to pull on the plastic bag.

Oral Re-hydration Packets
14 gauge catheter
The other gem was making sure your gear is protected against water as needed.

I have to build my own first aid kid (ifak) since I have often forgotten my main medical kit in the car. I have used a chocolate eggshell and it has gone pretty well.
The experience makes me too confident for short walks to the point it can hurt :( I noticed I tend to intentionally forget my main medical kit in the car to save weight because "I can always jump back for it if needed".
By "short walks" I mean mountain trips for 1-2 kilometers away from the car. I have used to consider this a small distance but suddenly realized that depending on the injury it could turn to a "far distance".
Then I have started thinking of a solution. I have researched all mini medical kits. But then a problem occurs! As a difference to my mine medical kid where I have pills especially selected to my problems and often injuries all the kits that are sold out are with too basic equipment (bands, cotton, etc).
I realized I already have these basics and could build my own kit. But in that kit, I'll add all the pills and tools I need.
First I needed to find a stable and small enough box for it. Luckily my kids love chocolate eggs and I had a few plastic eggshells around. Get my main medical kit and start working.
And tadaa! I believe I have prepared one of the smallest and full IFAK kits ever.
(update: I have recently cut myself in the forest and this eggshell save me from bleeding)
Here is what I've got in my pocket-size IFAK:
Stomach help
Active carbon
Water purifying tablets
Anty allergenic
2 x Safety Pins
Hand sanitizer Straw
Toothpaste Straw
3 x Bands
Compressed Cotton
Micro knife

Just a quick side note on those commenting on keeping in an IFAK the TQ's and Quick Clot. Is anyone currently hearing of any local EMS services offering wound packing classes? That's a great place to start for beginners. If you can get into those classes. WP'ing may also be more efficient in a bleed out situation. TQ's do not always save the day on all bleed outs.

Check with your local agency there is a national program called stop the bleed which teaches very basic wound packing and Trauma care.

Nice Video. Personally I switched from the halo chest seals to the hyfin sets. They have a set thats got one vented and one not. Its just nice to have that so you don't have to sit there burping a CS. Just a personal preference and a shout out for some new stuff to try and check out from a FMF Doc. Peace!

Jason didn't mention one item that is normally in all IFAK.
A compression bandage, normally a Israeli or the newer style OLAES.
I also like the compressed gauze by North American Rescue (NAR) which provides this 6-ply sterile, compressed gauze (about 4 yards), vacuum packed into a small vacuum
rectangle.

With the vacuum packing on the compassion bandages, = small size, and being to quickly apply them to a verity of wounds, especially the OLAES, make
them extremely useful on combat type wounds.

I’ve packed so many kits for buddies, ensured they knew how to use them but never once thought about loading my body armour! Feeling like a numpty so thanks. Can’t agree w/ you enough on tournies. If you’ve got room, pack em in. I use an airtight Israeli tournie that is sterile as well. I’m a little ocd on sterility LOL. Yesss....I know...it’s a NOW site and not a forever situ, if needed but they rock. Keep up the vids and again, thx. This might all be 2nd nature to you but my clinical mind needs to meld with in the field mentality and this helped me rethink a few things. I made it myself. Bought the supplies and just used a vacuum seal bag and put it underneath my plate carrier. Saved about 75 bucks

I recommend you take a look at a cutting device that I have supplied to my son when he was operating out of Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti.
He had been using small medical scissor to cut clothing, tape and other items.
I found the device I sent in a police departments ITK.
Cutting device I sent is a Klever Kutter KCJ.
I think they were designed to be used to cut items in a commercial situation, like boxes, but because small size and excellent cutting ability work great in medical treatment.
They are very small and they work well on most items that have to be cut during any field medical treatment.
They come in numerous colors & I purchased a 5 pack on Amazon for about $10.00.

I am very very close to completing a downsized IFAK that will fit in a magazine pouch, not waterproof but user friendly and frees up real estate on plate carrier.

If i remember and am informed right they are part of german military IFAKs. If i remember right they are taken early to counter infections down the TCCC line.

I never quite understood behind the plate IFAKs... Maybe it's just not for the type of stuff I do. With all the "fun" rounds floating around in the market now I don't want both my plates and IFAK penetrated.
If it works for you and/or SEALS and other guys that's great... But... Maybe I'm not high speed enough for that.
the whole team should carry their ifak in the same spot so everyone isn't searching your kit for your medical supplies. anything extra you want to carry is fine sticking here and there.

First and foremost, thanks for your service. What's your take on vented chest seals? Do they really make a difference? It would seem that especially for someone who is inexperienced, not having to constantly lift a corner to allow air to escape might make sense. How do you feel about this?
Don't sweat needing to burp the wound unless you have major elevation changes.
Tactical Rifleman Thanks for your reply. Since there isn't much of a cost difference I went ahead and bought some vented chest deals. I think I could handle burping the wound if I noticed major major elevation changes, or the victim having trouble breathing, or any other signs of a tension pneumothorax. However, not having any first hand experience, I felt the more idiot proof chest seals were the way to go for me. For under $20 a pair, I figured I'd just pick up two pair.
I feel it's important to keep both tourniquets and chest seals, as well as hemostatic agents such as Celox Z fold dressing and yes, even the granules on hand. In this day and age of violent crime I just feel it's a good idea. I've also seen some careless people at the range and want to be prepared in case some moron muzzle flashes someone and the weapon discharges. Truth be told, we often handle chainsaws here on the property, and a tourniquet can be a real life saver if there's ever an accident with one of them as well.
I guess one point I'm trying to make is heading to your advice is not strictly for operators, but civilians such as myself would also be well advised to learn how to care for themselves, or others since any of us can become a first responder in an instant.

Anyway, I was just wandering if you'd be willing to do an independent review on the STAT tourniquet. There are not many independent reviews on these as they are new to the market, but I feel we'll be hearing more about them in the future. Most of the information I've been able to find on UA-cam is from the manufacture, but their videos are quite compelling. I know they're a relative new comer, but they're not a cheap china made imitation of a CAT tourniquet and I feel they're worth taking a look at before everyone else finds out about them. I thought about doing my own review on them, but I felt it would be better left to someone who has had experience applying tourniquets in combat situations.
