  • Dr. Wendy Wickwire talks about anthropologist James Teit (1864-1922) and the notion of belonging. She discusses Teit’s special relationship with the Indigenous peoples in BC, his contributions to the Indigenous political movements of the 1910s, and his publications. Enjoy the story of a young Shetlander who moved to Spences Bridge, BC to work for his uncle, and who eventually became one with the peoples, the languages and the land.

Great video, very engaging. Wendy Wickwire was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, while the video had really useful illustrations. And interactions with David Walkem who is part of the ongoing story made it even more interesting, illustrating that Indigenous people have been fighting for fair treatment for a very long time. Well worth watching. As an "interior person" from Kamloops I am always interested in history set in the Thompson valley as it helps explain elements from my own childhood.
