This tiny chair had a broken leg. Trena inserts a spline and repairs some weaving as well. Hopefully it makes a little girl very happy! - Навчання та стиль
Nice work Trena, I always try to avoid these types of repairs. Thank goodness for epoxy. Love you Trena...Dad.
Thanks dad!
You must be very proud of this young lady..
John! Kudos to you and your wife for raising such a great kid.
So, I've been curious. Trena said you were still doing furniture restoration... Is your shop called "Trena's Furniture Repair"? 😁
@@corgilover3011 🤣
Is that a Lloyd Loom chair? I have a similar adult size one. Great to see how they are constructed. Loverly repair.

"Someone's been sitting in my chair and they've broken it all to pieces," cried the Baby Bear.
lol
Such a beautiful job on this little chair. Great choice to re-stain the seat. The contrast is amazing. You Trena, have the patience of an Angel!! 💖💖
Thank you so much!
No need to apologize for being busy, the fact that you are busy is a testament to the good work you do.
THankyou Steve
I see the LOVE that you put in your work. I love your videos and did enjoy seeing your fathers work shop. Your Mom and Dad are such lovely people. I see where you get your love for what you do. Wish I could work under your father as he seemed like he would be a good teacher. Quite but stern. Love all you do. Cheers.
yes, he is a very gentle and patient teacher

Very nice repair... I'm glad that you chose to leave the seat as stained -- I hope that the customer agrees!
You are a true craftsperson. I’m sure many of us would like to see the customer’s reactions when they pick up their pieces. How about it?
You are absolutely amazing. Your level of craftsmanship is on another level. Great job. Can’t wait to see the next project.
Big change from the usual. Good job .
Turned out beautifully.
Beautiful. Would loved to have seen the expression on the little girls face Christmas morning
@Trena~ I don't know how I missed the video when you initially uploaded it, but I'm so glad I saw it today. I'm so impressed by your fearlessness and skill in making repairs to these extra delicate pieces furniture, like this wicker chair and the rattan furniture set a few months ago! I think your use of epoxy to preserve the more fragile areas to prevent future damage was a brilliant choice! Your are truly a master of your craft! BRAVO!! CHEERS TO YOU!! ~~Christy~~
Thanks Christy! Always so kind
I like this little chear also verry difficult to paint the chear Thanks for the fine video
Looks great. What a wonderful gift it will be.
A great gift for someone. It looks great. Excellent video.
Boy, I’m SO happy when I see you’ve posted. You are such a pro. I have learned so much from your technique and expertise. Thank you so much.
Thankyou!
you just can't help yourself when it comes to taking the seat apart. LOL. you are remarkably talented
Lol. Nope. Thanks for watching!
I was really worried that the paint would clog the spaces between the wicker, but somehow you really got a clean finish. Beautiful work (yet again)
Thank you! Cheers!
This is the most difficult thing to do, this is so easy with you! Respect ! You are always so good in everything you do! I Love what I see! Thanks to you! Merci! Je vous lève mon chapeau!💋❤️💋
Thank you! Cheers!
Very special! Thank you.
Beautiful detailed work, as always. If I watch other furniture “restoration” channels, I will say, “that is not what Trena would do!” You are way above all the rest!!
lol. thankyou Kathy, your sweet
Some day can you bring your Dad in as your guest and do some work with him?
stay tuned
You sure get into some interesting projects. You have a lot of experience and knowledge.
My new favorite (favourite, lol) channel!!! This channel is what DIY is all about (aboot, lol). Give me more, more I say!!!
Guauu ...!..mucho trabajo, pero quedó Muy Bien, como siempre...!!..Un Abrazo Amigaaa....ji ji ji
Going to be one happy little girl,it is beautiful also happy you left the seat.
You did such a great job on this darling chair! Wouldn’t I love to be that little girl!!
thankyou Patricia!
You did such a great job that the child will be able to pass it on down to her little child some future day.
Lacquer over latex? I did not know that was possible but, it worked out beautifully and should be a super durable finish coat! That should eliminate the grime that a non-gloss will always attract.
yes it is a good protector and takes that sticky latex texture down
Great fix, looks great in pink keep up the great craftsmanship
Thanks Donald
Trena! Love this project! Honestly never thought "spline" for a leg before - always "dowel". New trick!😀 Glad to see you show proper safe technique for cutting the spline on your table saw. Cudos! Oldest son on "My Little Homestead" drives me crazy with dangerous table saw stuff, like pulling a piece through. Seen too many injuries, and even had a few myself. Got to respect your tools. You ARE a PRO! Right choice on the seat.🤗
Thankyou Robert!
Full points given here! A Nice Handy Finish!👍👍👍
This little chair turned out beautiful and I really like the color
thankyou!
1/16/22; just watched another interesting repair on a child's woven cane high back chair. Broken leg spline insert repair was impressive! I thought, from camera view, frame legs were hollow steam-bent, bamboo, but later saw frame was solid steam-bent wood. Great job drilling-out mortise area for spline-tenon reinforcement. Now painting, can't believe you brushed it...3x ! Kinda thought a very close air blast would fully encircle those 'millions' of little round cane strings...then wondered if some kind of submerged process might give the total 3D wrap-around coverage on all those 'millions' of cane strings. But you patiently pushed your paint brush bristles into those cracks/spaces between each cane string! How many paint brushes did that take? I saw 2 different brushes, white at the start, then you were using a dark long tip at the end as your voice over said ...3 coats...! Your results were fantastic! 👀😳😲😁👍👍👍🍷
well, I didn't want to get latex in the gun, its a big mess. It really wasn't too bad of a job. I switched to a longer cone type brush as it got into the weave a little better than the chip brush. I don't know of anyone who has a huge vat of pink paint to dip chairs into, lol, what on earth would you do with the rest of it and oh my the drips and runs would be a mess. thanks for watching though. cheers!
Looks quite challenging to me.
you done a lovely job on the chair and i love the Colour and your so amazing at any furniture
Thankyou!
Great Job, Looks really Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
What a sweet little chair!!! 🥰 I am glad you left the seat unpainted. Love the contrast. Turned out beautiful. God bless
You do excellent work, you make me want to be more patient and do better.
Nice job.
Nice work.
Great job Trena, Lookin good !!! Stay Safe !!!.
Nothing better than to start my day with a video of you showing off your talents.
You saved that chair from the dumpster!
thankyou Jim!
Lovely work, as usual. You are very inspiring, I hope folks show their girls your channel so that they can see girls can do this work as well as boys. It's an art. Both men and women can be inspired by and achieve ( to some degree) in. ❤️ Keep up the great work.
Ah, yeah. I like it! 🌞
Very nicely done. What a sweet gift for a little princess. Thanks for sharing another great video. ATB : )
Love the repair. That was amazing. Fantastic skill there. The little lady should be excited about this chair. Never worked with any thing like this. I look forward to each of your videos. Painting wicker has to be difficult!💋
just a little tedious. im glad it was just a little guy. cheers
Safety First around those power tools!
What a delightful job. I wasn’t sure on the choice of the brush, but now I see. You don’t wanna lose the delineation between any darkness in between the cane. Otherwise it just looks like a solid pink chair with no depth. I think the choice of just adding some TLC to the seat was perfect as well. It tells a story all of its own on the age of it.
i agree. Thankyou Jim
Great turn around, top job.
Hi Trena, You've got "Patience of Angel" to do three coats by hand, like the little trick of water spray to stop flash off! keep up the great content and variety!
Thanks Den
@@johnsfurniturerepair Trena, Don't forget to do some of your long ones, can be very therapeutic and enjoyable! Regards Den.
Aww that is so cute now! Hope the little one enjoys the chair!
I hate to be a complainer, but……..can’t you do an hour long video every day? Just kidding, however I love watching the magic you weld on each and every piece of furniture. Your work must make your Dad so proud.
Thankyou Lola. Lol. I wish I could.
Some little girl is going to be very happy with her beautiful chair!
Trena, another wonderfully done piece. Perfect video to watch on a cold snowy night. I love how you explain what the repair will be before you start the work. Watching a master at work is always a pleasure. You never have to apologize for the work you don't get done in your videos, stuff happens. When I was younger, we had one of the bent wood rockers, and for me, the seat was uncomfortable, but it brought back some really nice memories. Thank you.
Thankyou!
Yay! A new video notification from JFR! Just can't get enough since finding your channel. Thank you! I'm trying to replicate your temperament... you're a cool cat 😎.
So cool to see a comment from your Dad!
Stay warm.
yep, he eventually chimes in. lol thanks for watching!
Looks beautiful
Great job, patience is one of your virtues.
Looks Great
That is a very confused chair, rattan, wicker, and a wood seat, wow. Or am I mistaken and it is cane and wood?
Whatever it is, you did a great job.
I don't have any furniture to restore or repair, but if I ever do, I'd want this gal to do it.
It’s so cute!!
Excellent 👍
Some little girl will love that beautiful new chair for Christmas.
The repaired leg/side was nice and it appears a lot sturdier than I expected, another win for the shop.
When you said you was leaving the seat panels as they were, i thought, "Oh no you're not, they look awful". I was right. You worked your magic on them, and they look beautiful. And as you said, "I like the contrast".
The seat also reminded me of your husbands "Fender" Base Guitar. So i have just watched that video again :-)
Like the spline repair, the decision to redo the seat to clean it up really made it pop, nice job.
ya im glad i did that. cheers
You are best. Hello from Murfreesboro Tennessee
Your work is great and speaks for it's self. What's amazing is how beautiful you keep your hands with the type work you do. Thanks
Beautiful. You always go above and beyond which defines your workmanship. Curious if their were other pieces that went with the chair, probably not.. Again a beautiful job.
Nope. A lone wolf. Thanks for watching Beverly!
Really beautiful way you fixed the break in that chair leg. I never would have thought of that. Thank you for the video.
Thanks Tom
Another fantastic repair! I’m sure there’ll be one very happy little girl. I think it’s great how you do so many repairs/renovations, where the article may not be all that intrinsically valuable, but where it has huge sentimental value. More power to you!
Thankyou Ian.
enjoyed that..thank you
Thankyou for watching Kenny!
Hi Trena! Beautiful Job! A pleasure to watch TY. Have a good one!👍
Thank you! You too!
I'm curious, do you EVER say to a customer, "I'm sorry but I don't think I can save that?" I'd bet not. #respect
well sometimes i try to tell them but they just ask how much more money it will be and that i should just go ahead anyways. it seems the value of most of my clients pieces is sentimental so money isn't really a concern.
Think of that, strong sentimental attachment and they trust you with it, that alone speaks volumes, yeah, I'm a fan-boy. Well as much as i can be at 67.
Trena is still hot, even when next to that ugly chair. LOL
Man your work is so good.
lolol
So much talent for a young, beautiful women.
I very much enjoy watching you do what you do! Terrific job very well done!
Glad you enjoy it!
Beautiful job as always and you always make it look easy..
AWESOME JOB TRINA!!! SUCH PATIENCE!!! WELL DONE
Thank you! Cheers!
Very talented young lady , nice job
I discovered your channel about two weeks ago andI beacame quite addicted to it. I wish I could find a teacher like you and get one day such an amount of skills...Great job as usual, really love it ! ❤😀
Thanks and welcome
I love watching you work with wood you are a professional definitely I have seen other people on different channels but they don't Don't Come Close to do the job that you do yours is perfect I just wished I could have found this channel or even you had it for 10 years Canal 62 getting too old to do some of these things but I love watching you I would love to have been able to do this
Thankyou Carol!
You never fail to wow.
Hi Trena! What a beautiful transformation of this little chair! I noticed that you did not prime the wicker prior to painting with latex. Is that because the wicker doesn't need it because it's porous and grabs the paint? Thank-you for the educational videos!❤️
Yes. Usually paint sticks very well to this weave. Cheers
I love how this chair turned out. I had no idea you could get the braiding already braided like that. I'm curious why you used latex paint for wicker. I would have thought to use chalk paint, but I'm no expert. You clearly are and you did a great job. I'm glad you cleaned up the seat and left it natural wood. A nod to it's history.
As usual, almost magical work!
Hope you had some fun with the chair project. It would have been fun for me. When cutting the repair spline I noticed you changed the saw blade throat plate. I'm curious why you did it.
when you are cutting thin or small pieces on the table saw a zero clearance plate helps support the small piece as much as possible to avoid the blade tipping and throwing it. otherwise the table saw is not a safe tool for small pieces
Beautiful work on both structure and detail. 2 questions: 1. Is a single type of TimberMate wood filler, which is advertised to be stainable, usable for all woods and stains, or do you need to use different types for various woods and stains? 2. What is the dark, gel-consistency, epoxy that you use, and is a single color of it usable for all woods and stains? You may have addressed these 2 questions in a previous UA-cam. If so, please refer me to it.
Hi Danny. I use the water based timbermate putty and I try to pick a color that matches the color of stain that I’m going with, not the wood I’m working with. It is stainable but I always find it needs a little touchup. I use west system epoxies, they don’t take stain but they do take acetone based toners or acetone based pens. You can color your epoxy with the sawdust from the project your working on but it also usually needs fine tuning. Cheers!
So beautiful!!!!!!
I really enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for sharing. BTW, you are very good!
I appreciate that! thankyou Don
You make this stuff look so easy! I think it’s interesting that you use a ball peen hammer for woodworking! I have a similar sized one that belonged to my grandfather, and I’ve used it for years in my wood-shop. There’s always this thought in the back of my mind that I’m violating some longstanding rule of the Mortice, Tenon & Marching Society by using it, but I throw caution to the fore winds and soldier on! Ha! I also find solace in knowing that Dave Engels of Engels Coach Shop (a UA-cam channel that every woodworker should be aware of) uses one frequently! Lastly, while we’re covering strange and unusual practices, you have the first lathe I’ve ever seen that is operated with the headstock on the right side! Am I becoming dyslexic, or does it actually run like that? Thanks for another interesting episode! I’ll shut up now!
lol. i love my ball peen hammer and i will always use it. lol love the engles coach shop too, they are amazing. nice catch on the lathe, its actually set up wrong lol. i bought it a while ago and haven't gotten to overhauling it yet. it work this way but not like its supposed to.
Beautifully done👍
Hey there JFR, I was so hoping you wouldn't paint that chair. Once you paint wicker there is no going back unless you dip it. I have wicker stuff that I have painted and really regret it. I do understand that it is a child's chair and you do what the customer asks, but original is always best. Anyway, great job as always....peace to ya.
Yep, I know. But customers always come first in the shop. cheers!
Beautiful job 🌹
Outstanding job as usual!
Thank you! Cheers!
So adorable but tell me, why is the seat in 3 pieces? Lovely job🤗
Not sure. Just how it was made
Thanks and well done Trena
Thankyou!
