      Look into serpadesign or paludariums, or aquascaping if youre interested in real moss. Hot tip the container should be water proof and you should get moss from areas that are near you and are in drier areas like side walks, roof overhangs, concrete areas, unmaintained driveways or your lawn if you're looking to keep it on a table or something, better survivability. Do not collect in state or nature preserves, as it is illegal in some places. Scatter your picking, better to collect a little and leave most behind so it can refill, moss grows very slow. Wash moss, quarantine moss for about 1 to 2 weeks in a loose lid tupperware container, make sure you let the container air out every day or so take care of any hitchhikers. Moss after rain or snow melt have the best colors, those you can even dry right after picking.

      Hello. Do you like this style of hanging, too?

    • @SimplyCherCher
      @SimplyCherCher  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Jennifer, sorry for the late reply! For this project, my client wanted 4 frames so I purchased a lot of the fake moss at the DollarStore to keep the budget down. I basically bought as many bags as I could find...which was around 6 bags. But I'm assuming that will need to measure the bag size of moss that you find at your Dollarstore/Craft Stores, then do the calculation for your frames. Length x width of bag, and see how many of these fit into the Ribba. Does that make sense? You may be able to double the area you want to cover if the bag of moss has a lot of depth. And then I bought 1 large bag of preserved moss at Michael's which had a lot of the brighter greens and natural colours which I used in the foreground. So, I had 7 bags in total but they weren't the same sizes. Sorry I don't have an exact number for you but hope the estimating will help you to figure out how much you need. By the way...9 frames would look so pretty! Just remember to allow the moss to "air out" in a ventilated room before installing in your dining room. I found there was a bit of an odour for the first few hours...which may have been the preserved moss. Have fun and good luck!

    Hello, this is awesome! Can you please share approximately how much moss was needed to fill the 19-inch frame? was it like 2 lbs? 5 lbs.? I know you can't be exact but I'm looking to buy the items online and have no clue how much moss I need to buy for a large frame like you used. Thank you!

    • @SimplyCherCher
      @SimplyCherCher  4 роки тому

      Debra Faith Warshaw Hi Debra! So glad you watched the video! I totally “guesstimated” by looking at the package of moss and trying to buy enough packages to visually fill the frame. Again, it depends on how many colours you want to include as well. So if I wanted to use 4 colours, and it covered 1/4 of the frame, then I would be 4 packages. With this project I had to buy enough moss to fill 4 Ikea frames so it ended up being 3 large bags of preserved moss, and then I got around 6 bags of fake moss at the dollar store. I had lots of leftovers that I used for other projects. So the long answer to the short question is, I would see how many colours you want to use, measure the package of the moss and make sure you have enough moss combined to fill the length and width of the frame. Hope this helps!!

    • @debrafaithwarshaw9729
      @debrafaithwarshaw9729 4 роки тому

      @@SimplyCherCher , thank you for replying.
      I had to order it all online so I couldn't see/feel the package size the same way I would in person. I bought a frame that is 36 x 24 inches and I bought an assortment of bags in the only size I saw on the Michael's web site. I bought 13 bags of different preserved moss. I hope that will be enough.

    Hi, I love your video. Thanks for sharing! I'm thinking of placing a moss art on my balcony wall. It does not receive direct sunlight nor rain but I'm thinking of using a woodframe with plexiglass (UV). Do you think that will work to ensure the moss stays pretty? I live in a tropical climate.

      It ended up costing about $50 a frame. It depends on the kind of moss you purchase...my client wanted different colours so I mixed some Dollar Store preserved moss with some more expensive moss from Michael's craft store. Pricing can vary.

      @@SimplyCherCher Thanks for your quick reply! I looked into it. It's complicated to use living moss. The moss needs soil and to be watered regularly. Living moss is best for outdoor use in a climate that moss typically grows in.

    I’m using moss on a DIY exposed terrarium (I’m not working on glass... yet) and this was very helpful! Now I do have a question, are all the moss that come in a bag fake? I got mine from Hobby Lobby and it feels very real so I was wondering if hot glue would kill it? I mean I’m finding out one way or another because I’m pretty much done lol but maybe you know more about the topic?

    • @SimplyCherCher
      @SimplyCherCher  5 років тому +1

      @@SmileyYvette Thank you so much!! So glad you like it. For that size of frame, I used around 6-8 bags of moss. All the moss and succulents are fake so need to water. The frame is a RIBBA shadow box that I got from Ikea. When you are trying to calculate how much moss you need, just measure your frame to calculate the area that you need, then just make sure you have enough moss to cover that area with a bit extra just in case.

    • @SimplyCherCher

      Thank you Mathilde!! Staying fresh forever would be amazing right? Fake moss can fade over time, especially if it's exposed to the sun.
      However you can bring it back to life if you notice this happening. You can apply a small amount of craft paint to the moss with a sponge brush.
      Dab any excess off with a paper towel. I found this advice online...check out this blog! www.notjustahousewife.net/freshen-up-moss/
