alright so I got a coconut at a Mexican grocery store on a Spanish class field trip, and when I got home I started cleaning it in the sink because I’ve seen people clean mango pits and they turn out fuzzy and I thought that would happen, spoiler alert it wasn’t fuzzy, and while washing the coconut I dropped it onto my phone (a few inches) and my phone absolutely shattered and now I have a cool blurry filter on my front camera

Heyyo! I interpreted the whole Billie Eilish vinyl variant debacle as more of a discussion about having different vinyl with different bonus tracks for the same album. To be sure, Billie puts out multiple versions of her vinyl in different colors and all that, but each vinyl has the same exact track listing, so fans don't have to purchase multiple variants to hear each song on vinyl. This can be seen as different from Taylor Swift because her vinyl variants often feature exclusive songs that aren't on the other vinyl variants like The Albatross, The Bolter, and The Manuscript (I looked these up so correct me if I'm wrong). This further encourages fans to purchase multiple records of the same album in order to hear each of the bonus tracks on vinyl, rather than simply having different color options to choose from. Also if I'm not mistaken, the Midnights variants formed a clock when all put together, which again encourages fans to purchase four different records in order to complete the clock. It's a smart business strategy, but it can be argued that it is a more wasteful business model than Billie's vinyl variants (which as mentioned in the video are made in a more environmentally conscious way). Anyway, this isn't to hate on Taylor, it is just my interpretation of things. To me, different colors of the same exact vinyl is more of a choice thing, rather than having different records with different extras that make fans want to buy all of them. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts though too!
As a fan of Taylor I completely agree with you. Some of the fanbase has complained about multiple variants. However in terms of fans purchasing all the variants not everyone does that. I’ve seen people purchase one variant and I’ve also seen people buy multiple. As a long time fan I’ve learned to just wait for the album to be out because she eventually puts the extra songs on streaming. For example the variants you mention all 4 of those songs ended up being released on the anthology part of the album. I think most of the criticism she gets for these variants are fair. I also want to point out that the album was a double album but she has yet to release a “anthology” vinyl. I’m not trying to make her look like a saint for not releasing a “anthology” vinyl. On that same note I have seen a lot of the fanbase begging for that vinyl. She will probably eventually release it. I also believe the multiple variants are new and only apply to the last 2 albums. If you notice she doesn’t release excessive variants of the re-released/Taylors version albums. Also and I may be wrong about this but I think the multiple variants might be a way of keeping the fans off her back about the next album. At the rate she’s been producing music these last 4-5 years the fanbase is getting increasingly more demanding. For example the new album just dropped but they already want the next Taylor’s Version and some people want that next one to be another double drop. I’m not sure if their eagerness for the next Taylor’s version is due to it being an album that they already love, but try not listen to out of respect for her but either way I’m disappointed in them for being so demanding. Maybe her releasing variants with one song will end once the Taylor’s version era is done. Sorry this is a lot. I appreciate your take. Hope you can appreciate mine too. 😁

I'm sure it's difficult to try to keep so many people happy with new music when the process of making music is creative and sometimes takes more time than people would like to wait. Olivia’s bonus songs weren’t entirely random. Each color/letter had a different hidden song, but I don’t think anyone knew about the songs until they bought it or heard about it later

I have no problem with Taylor, I like some of her music but her fans really put me off with that.

Fans don’t realize majority of people don’t like Taylor cause of them. Yea people don’t care for taylor to begin with but with the fans pushing shit in your face, people get tired and that’s what they’re not comprehending. You can like something but don’t try to make others around you stan too. You can show them and if it’s not for them respect that. Example: I personally like kpop, my friends not so much. So when I play my music yea there’s kpop here and there but I mainly play music that I know they’d like. People nowadays forget that the world isn’t just for them, there’s billions of others everyday doing the same thing you do just differently. Also people forget that you listen to music that you relate to, not everyone are white woman in their 30’s constantly having troubled relationships. It’s like any other artist or hobby. Yeah Taylor is pretty easy to ignore if you just listen to whatever music that interests you. It's the delusional attitude that Swifties have that act like Taylor has invented everything good in popular music that really triggers the ridicule. as a swiftie i think that most of the time the reason swifties get so offended when people say that they don't like taylor's music is because a lot of people really relate to the lyrics and find a lot of comfort in them, so if someone says they don't like a particular song or think it's stupid, it can feel like they're saying that your emotions aren't valid or something. i do agree that it's annoying when people try to force their own tastes on other people but, from my experience, i haven't really seen that with swifties, but whenever i have, it's more been in the way of defending her when people hate unnecessarily. just my opinion!

I love that 2024 is really the year of the pop girls, and as a fan of most of them for very different reasons, it does my head in at the moment seeing them all being compared by their fanbases. It’s not a competition, we don’t need to bash one down to lift the other up, (not discounting artists responsibilities to control their fanbases better), why can’t we celebrate them all as they are SO different, and why can’t we love them all, why pick one, or say who is best and fight about it, taste is subjective.
People comparing Billie and Taylor’s album is crazy, they have such different goals and sounds. One has 10 really beautiful intense and heavily produced songs, and one has 31 songs half of them being almost acoustic and more ‘storytelling’. One of these women is 34 and so far into her career, and the other is 22 and only a few years into her career. Totally different styles and I love them both so much. So many fans saying ‘Billie did what Taylor did in 10 songs’ but I don’t think Billie was trying to do anything other than make her own music to her taste, not compete??
Fanbases fighting battles the artists are not actively involving themselves in is so stupid. So sick of this ‘Hailey vs Selena’ ‘Taylor vs Billie’ ‘Taylor vs Beyoncé/Olivia’ ‘Olivia vs Sabrina’ ENOUGH UGH

yall missed billie saying she hated that other artists cared about the charts and then released 9 different version of her vinyl (taylor had 4) and later released two digital versions to try and get top spot on the billboard charts. The extra versions outweigh them being made from recycled material because they are still produced and shipped using the same methods. she also has a deal with h&m which is one of the worst fast fashion brands. billie loves green-washing and talking out both sides of her mouth and youre falling for it. her managers were also shading taylor on ig stories and twitter. also during one of the lives, finneas started telling people to not buy multiple copies and billie tried to stop him as he was saying it but again, she doesn't care about the charts and hates that other artists do.
and taylor releasing remixes and voice demos a month after is standard album rollout for her and every other artist knows to clear out for a month and a half if they want to top billboard so billie was either dumb or she was tryign to prove something. fun fact the remix she dropped was by an environmental activist who is also a dj. coincidence or subtle jab at billie? who can say.

She's very driven. She wants to top the charts. She knows diehard fans will give her that. Like I said, I love Taylor Swift. I think it is definitely fair to say, however, that she needs to allow other artists (especially female artists) to top the charts. Her team is too damn good. Tom Brady should’ve sucked on purpose to win less superbowl rings and give others a chance? @Lab1104 I can definitely understand your angle on this. It takes immense talent and skill to become someone like Taylor, Simone, or Tom. I do think, though, that Taylor has a way of "hijacking" the charts. Her team knows exactly when and what to drop, and she chooses, often, to do it when or around when another artist is dropping (like they said about Billie). She has created an obsessive fan base (not entirely her fault), and they will play any song she drops. Like when they accidentally released an 8-second clip of static and it topped the charts 😂 I think she deserves the spot she's made for herself, I just wish she'd be a bit more considerate of her overall impact she's making on other artists
@Lab1104 I do want to say that you have definitely given me a different perspective. I hadn't thought of it that way. And at the end of the day, Taylor is and will always be one of my favorite artists.

Long time fan of Taylor’s music and love Billie as well! Sonically Billies album is bounds better but the layers of lore to TTPD runs quite deep. I suspect I have OCD. I'm going to go to the psychiatrist because it's something that bothers me every day, a lot of anxiety, a lot of frustration. And although I am an extroverted person, my best friends are my brother and my mother lol.
I recently reconnected with friends from school, we haven't seen each other in years and although I love them very much, it exhausts me to be with more than one person at the same time, especially when they give a lot of opinions about my life. I love this podcast, I feel calm and in a good mood when I watch it. Much love to you
I'm in pretty much the same boat, very anxious and very easily angry at the people I'm close to and in general and try to avoid situations where opinions on how I live my life will be given, so prefer not to meet new people in a traditional way where they'll be like 'hello, what do you do for a living?' right away - Definitely try and find a normal hospital which has a psychologist or something first, I think, cause then a normal doctor can recommend you to their in-house psychologist, and then that psychologist can refer you to a psychiatrist for evaluation if they think you need it, I've gotten anxiety and autism and depression diagnosis before, but am just starting the process for OCD and ADHD evaluation. I'm from Sweden, though, so it might be different

She’s literally the most fortunate artist ever. From living in Tennessee and having married, supportive parents who just so happen to work in accounting so being probably one of richest women in the world but constantly putting out different versions of your music while charging too much is crazy and seems unethical. I don’t like to think she’s evil (I used to along with her insufferable bestie Selala) but yea I’m happy she found Travis and got out of her longest relationship bc we assumed she had settled and decided to go private after a decade of dating publicly and after being lowkey for seven years I see why swifties are going crazy now and I do blame them most of the time. At least the toxic ones and I do feel kinda bad for Taylor but again, exploiting your fans knowing most of them are young looks pretty bad and I honestly have no idea how her transitioning to pop a decade ago blew her up this badly.
