  • In this video, stone carver Henry Gray is cutting the letters 'GLORIOUS' into Portland limestone. Henry often uses carving as a form of meditation; getting lost in the focus of each tap. If you enjoy this video, give us a thumbs up, a comment and have a listen of our other peaceful videos with a focus on audio.

@@graysstonecarvingstudio Thank you for responding, I asked because my husband is a bricklayer. He started doing letter carving about 3 months ago, and wants to do it for something to keep him busy in the winter, but also because my dad passed away in August. He wants to carve his head stone, and has been practicing since he lettering chisels came in the mail. My husband said he did a little I think it’s called banker Masonary during his apprenticeship, but admits he has a long way to go. Any advise would be a great help.

      Hi Molly,
If he wants to have a chat about lettering, I'm up for that. Email me directly on info@grays-stone-carving.co.uk If I can help I will. We also do classes and if that's what he wants to look at we can focus on that's possible. As it happens I have found learning to cut letters easier that learning to draw letters.
