How to Clean Your Crusty Stove Top, using Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide

- Опубліковано 12 вер 2024
- I have one messy, crusty, stove top. And I’ve scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed with little success. So I’ve decided to test out a popular technique, using a baking soda and hydrogen peroxide paste. There are a lot of people who say this works…. But let’s see for ourselves.
Despite what anyone says, i truly appreciate this video. i thought i was the only one not getting it with the whole baking powder thing. i've tried it multiple times thinking that maybe i wasn't doing it right - even letting it sit overnight - still doesn't work. Thank you!!
jumo saby I’ve tried everything, including baking soda, vinegar, easy off, degreased, EVERYTHING the past few days and I finally found the solution:. scrub with a pumice stone and hot water. Won’t scratch enamel and does not require vigorous scrubbing.
@@jenniferkim2319 thanks. I've moved out from that apt. with the old nasty stove top. Hopefully, I will never have to try it again but I will definitely give that advice to someone who ask me in the future.
@@jumosaby3836 EZ off worked for me.
Come on people.....at least by him doing this experiment and it not working means you know not to do it yourself. You should be Thanking him instead of complaining about it. At least you learned that it didn't work and that alone saved you time and money.
That's exactly what I said, because I was definitely about to try that method!
At least isn't an excuse when people shouldn't be humbled for expecting exactly what the video shows. It's not good enough and people deserve exactly what they expect. Also, youe excuse is flimsy over the fact that there are a thousand possibilities that don't work, so knowing something doesn't work doesn't get people closer to solving their issue.
It's because people came here for what works and not what doesn't work. So people deserve what they expect if they r told they should expect it. @@feliciagibson9366
The only thing that eventually worked for me was a metal spatula and about two hours of scraping. Finally looks as good as new.
Same for me!!! A knife and some strength😭
Did that not scratch the surface?
3 parts baking soda to one part vinegar, should be a paste more like paint not watery. Leave on 30 min & scrub off. It did work for me. I first scrubbed it with dawn grease cutting soap then dried & used the baking soda mix. Everything came up & my stove now looks like new. I let the grates soak in the HOTTEST dawn dish soap water in the sink until water cooled enough it didn’t burn me like 30 min also. Then scrubbed & really the whole stove top now shines big time.
Barkeepers Friend, a toothbrush, a straight razor blade (with caution), soft sponge, a microfiber cloth. You have enamel under that crud. You are in luck! I used these materials to clean my eternally annoying DCS gas range deck that has a kind of brushed steel surface. Make a paste, let it sit for 15 mins or so and start with the toothbrush in small circular motions. I very gingerly used the razor in spots careful not to scratch. It has been stained for years. BKF is incredible. I cannot believe how well it works!
I use Comet the powder version and use water to make a somewhat thick paste and use a paint brush the slather it on my white stove top cover and it works great.
cover area with paper towels, pour on a little ammonia and cover with plastic cling wrap. wait up to 6 hours. easy as can be.
I used blunt side of the knife & scraped it off, in a style like wall paper stripping with a scraper. It worked. The burnt was dyed on. I scrubbed at first, was not possible.
This method will work you just need to let that shit soak longer than 40 mins.
thanks for sharing this. at least I know what DOESN'T work! I've been at this for a while and I REFUSE to quit until I get this stove top clean!
Nothing there :p

Thank you.
Sonia Johnson says Easy Off oven cleaner will do the trick. I spray the surface, then cover the whole thing with plastic wrap and leave it overnight or for several hours. Everything will wipe up with paper towels.
@@education461
How about on the enamel surface?
I wish I had the last 4 1/2 minutes of my life back.
🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for saving me the trouble of clicking start.
@@legojenn It’s the least I could do.

Sonia Johnson toxic
will easy off stain the stove?
@@map8126 Who cares. You're exposed to toxins every minute of every day.
@Mary Ann Parmentier Sure toxic for one day, but then clean forever if you never let it get that dirty again!
@@patricklee780
Agree. A few more toxins in exchange for a nice clean stove would be worth it. It's not like it isn't going to be washed off. And the exhaust fan should suck up any fumes.
My grandma taught me this technique. I use it all the time. what you do is make it just a little thicker than you did. but apply it liberally and let it sit for 24 hours. then scrub it off. I usually do it at night after dinner and clean it off before I cook then next night.
sometimes too much abrasive scrubbing over time ruins the protective finish on the stove. Really it should be cleaned after being used for cooking like frying, even if boiling starchy stuff boils over.
and that protective finish is to make cleaning easier, just not after a long time going with out.
and the "protective" finish is for what? making it easier to clean? Enamel fail.
I'll give it a try. An anecdotal story, I had a Magnalite Stock Pot that had some horribly charred pinto bean crust that would not come out with any non-nuclear methods. I did the peroxide/baking soda method but with perhaps a significant difference. I filled the bottom of the pot with 1/8th inch of peroxide then sprinkled the baking soda on to it. Not sure if it would have been in proportion to create the paste consistency. Here is what I think is the difference maker: I let it stand overnight (maybe 12 hours) and I worked it with a scotch bright sponge. It took it down to the shiny surface and none of the bullet-proof crust left that I could see.
It's going to take a lot of peroxide paste to do our 6-burner Viking gas range...
Barkeepers Friend! Make a paste and let it sit awhile then use a toothbrush. It works.
Was this your stove? It looks like it's not just grease but maybe a grease fire? Looks like the only way to "clean it", is to raise it up, and slide a new one under it. lol
I used a multi tool with a scaper worked really well but dont let it dig in
Just wondering where you pick up some elbow grease?
Same store I buy my toe jam at. Glad I could help.
The problem is that this crust is almost pure carbonised oil. All cleaners attack oil so they are not going to touch this concrete. There must be something that can be used, at a guess some form of acid like a drain unblocker. Enamel is a form of galss so it should be OK but to a test drop on a clean part first. Maybe caistic soda ? If not it's back to the road drill.
Try caustic soda.
we scraped ot off with a knife and a steel wire brush.
I use this, I also add a table spoon of kosher salt for added abbrasiveness
Great tip!!
@@hawleybray3916 ya. But did it work?
Did you ever figure out how to clean off the hard crusty baked on stuff on your stovetop???
"Purple Power" and brillo.
I found myself applying soda & peroxide after seeing it didn't work, left it on 40 minutes and used a toothbrush and it brushed right Off! SURPRISE!
what do i do if i went idiotic and cleaned the inside under the black cap and now it wont light?
I don't comment often, but this is such a problem, I thought I would chime in. Here is what I know from experience.
1. Bar keepers friend will work with a lot of effort, however, per the customer support staff of BKF, "if you leave it on too long, it will discolor the stainless, I have spot on my top to verify that she was correct.
2. Ammonia DOES WORK VERY WELL. I cleaned my stove last night using it. I knew it would attack the grease because friend my cleans her grates with it by putting the grate in a plastic bag with ammonia and leaving it outside overnight, it works perfectly. I was however, I was hesitant to use it inside the house, for obvious reasons, but I was desperate. I was about to replace the top with black enameled surface, expensive.
What I did was pour some on the paper towels over the spots (soaked them and press them down) then poured additional on the top. and covered and sealed the area with plastic wrap, left it for about 3 hours, came back and cleaned it up with soap and water, the stove hasn't been this clean since the day it was delivered.
If you are really worried about the fumes, at home depot you can purchase a respirator mask that you see painters and wood workers wear, they will blocked the fumes. I use them to spray lacquer, they work.
Sorry about the red type, somehow got into this mode and can't figure out how to get out!
Hope this helps you out. Of course wear gloves.
Nick
When I posted the comment the red type went away, go figure!
I’m at a new rental …
It looks like this …
I’ve done so much to it (Easy-off, comet , Ajax , dawn power spray , bars keeper , even ammonia from dollar tree [never had anything that ammonia couldn’t clean / this is it though ])
I’ve spent so much on it 🫤
At least I won’t try this , to waste more time and energy, and thinning nails 😮💨
Oh and the pink stuff too 😪
Did you EVER clean it? if so, what worked? an answer would be nice
I have. Takes a lot of elbow grease and some sort of scraping tool such as a wide screw driver but use it gently not to scratch it but work on the built up grease. Hard n old marks such as these develop due to cooking greasy and fat based stuff on high heat.
I get mine from a flat bread pan with ghee everyday. Sizzling and nonstick enamel on the outside of certain pans also play a big role here.
I recently cleaned my stove top with baking soda and vinegar, didn't work really well because I was either too impatient to wait for a whole day n all or I was too anxious. But anyway, I used a metal scourer and good old lemony liquid dishwash with elbow grease and some hot water if you would.
Scrubbing is the key.
I still have to clean the grates though.
@@hawkeyeNL783 thanks for the answer. Much appreciated.
@@hawkeyeNL783 Doesnt the metal scourer scratch the enamel?
@@LetsGoFlyers2011 it does, as a matter of fact. But you'll be happier to look at a cleaner, less shinier stove when you're done cleaning it.
It's worth a try!
@@hawkeyeNL783 Do you have a white stove top? If so I could see how it would look better. The scratches will make it harder to wipe, though. Mines black and scratches really show. I'm happy with using fume free ez off.
No change and no use video. I use a putty knife to lift it off by scrapping carefully. Porcelain is tough and will not scratch if done right. - Otherwise EasyOff oven cleaner for over night, cold.
Likely the H202 had become H20 - wasn't much bubbling.
I got an oven cleaning product.in a spray.can when I was in Germany - needs surface to be warm - softens backed on grease in ovens.
Please make a video of you getting a new stove because you just don't get it!
You can soak cloth in ammonia and place on top of the areas and like magic I will be gone without scratching or scrubbing
HAha I was hoping for a miracle video lol this was not the one ... but thanks for sharing make a new vid if you find the method
I have a stovetop like that. Thanks to you I won't waste my time with H2O2 & baking soda. Going right to heavy duty oven cleaner. #hatethisshit
Hello, thought I could help. You could try vanquish it’s powerful stuff and requires you to wear gloves, mask and goggles, but it’s AMAZING! it’s heavy duty so if you don’t want to use that, a scraper and some cif kitchen would work an absolute treat as well. Best of luck! X
You have to fight grease WITH grease. How do you remove permanent marker marks? By going over it again with permanent marker and wiping it clean.
Permanent marker yes, grease no!
DID YOU TRY COKE? DOES THAT WORK? I know people use it to clean grease and toilet. How bout stovetop?!!
were you ever able to get this clean?
HmmhahHmm, maybe you should let it sit an hour or so.
Comments are hilarious.
How not to clean a filthy stove 😂😂
you must use vinager and backing soda set for 20min then clean it
Acid and base, ok, whatever u say
Do this method worked on my stove...I let it sit for 4 hrs..then again my stove didn't have years of build up..
Just use easy off stove cleaner that stuff is magic
Great googlie mooglie this is gonna be a chore.
I use dawn,bakeing soda,vinager. Much better
You should make a video
'Grody sponge'? Surely a mispronunciation of the English word Grotty where the double T has been Americanised to Groddy and then degraded further.
My stove burner not coming out its so sticky what i am doing
oven cleaner nt available in Pakistan
I might try oven cleaner
It can eat the paint.
I used razor blade..
Bar Keepers Friend
I've cleaned so many of these, and this one is pretty bad. I would try oven cleaner, and if that doesn't work, throw that disgusting thing away and get a new stove.
Really? At least you should have tried other stuffs! We’re not looking for things that DON’T work
That’s 4:31 I will never get back.
Lauren Lovering Scrub with a pumice stone and hot water. Works like magic.
@@jenniferkim2319 thank you!!!!
The brand I used is Pumie Scouring Stick available at Home Depot. Safe for stovetop, will not scratch. Actually, you don’t even need hot water, just regular water is fine.
Baking soda and vinegar.
Vinegar not peroxide. The stove doesn't have human skin. Baking soda and water. Apply liberally, let sit overnight. Then spray on white vinegar, then scrub off.
Yeah, this doesn't work either. Even scrubbing with a toothbrush.
yup, doesn't work (cleaning my stove at the moment). Sort of makes you wonder why stove makers even use enamel. Enamel is 40 yo plus bs. Looking at you Kucht, maker of my professional stove.
Save your time and don't watch since it didn't work. Should change the title
So frustrated. i have tried spray nine.. It works pretty good. A mix of dawn and lemon juice vinegar etc.... I even use a straight razor blade. That works better but nothi g gets this cement crap off. Cheap ass maytag appliances
Use a pumice stone will come right up
Tammy Curry won't that scratch the enamel?
Yes, I tried it and it scratched my brand new black enamel stovetop terribly. But it works great on white stoves--they look just like new.
Did you find anything that works?
This does not work.
Another video said baking soda and vinegar. Has anyone tried that?
Saw a video where dude used a razor and just scrapped it off I’ll send link
Knitwit ua-cam.com/video/RztfS5wT2GA/v-deo.html
Use a pumice stone. Works incredibly
I don't know if it works, but if you try it be sure to mix them slowly because it will cause a reaction. In grade school we made volcanos with a cup at the mouth full of baking soda. when you poured in a cup of vinegar, it erupted. the title of this video is HOW TO CLEAN YOUR CRUSTY STOVE TOP... this is crap
This video has more downvotes than up votes
No, this video didn't help me out. Even though our stove is easy to clean.
When I got my first apartment, and being the first occupant in a brand new building, and having dealt with a greasy gross kitchen before, I didn't want to do a lot of frying because i hate the mess.
I do a lot of stiry frying and grilling so oil splatters but i clean up right alway. However the burner has these sticky oil spots that i didnt clean up right away and i cant get it out.
Lol it’s a try!
Thanks for proving this doesn't work. All the methods listed on the internet DONT WORK.
You're the best omgggg xD
Grody!!!😅😅😅
I tried to clean my black stove with clorox well lets just say that was a really bad idea.☹
🙄
Please don't scrape with your nail! It is painful for those of us watching that are sensitive to those types of noises
Then why are you watching cleaning videos with the volume on?
@Desiree Acedo - I know right? Like the nails on the blackboard, eh?
Don't watch the video of them. It's not his job to worry about or cater to your sensitivities in his video. That's nobody else's responsibility but yours.
So you wanted everyone to see that you have NO clue what you're doing? Ugh.
Way to disappoint! Twice as many dislikes to likes should tell you something.
