Thank you, thank you, thank you. You just saved me $135 plus labor. My mom's electric wheelchair has been sitting idle for six months and we decided it was time to sell it. Of course, the batteries had completely drained even though they were new ones. Your technique worked like a charm. I did do ene thing different. The chair's connector was not 2 slots but 4 holes, like a trailer light connector. Instead of putting the stripped wires into the connector, I put them directly onto the battery posts, but only for enough time to plug in the wheelchair's regular power supply. As soon as the power supply lights turned green and indicated the wheelchair's power supply was charging, I unplugged the extra 12 volt power supply. 10 hours later and the batteries are fully charged and the chair is working again just fine. This was the ONLY UA-cam video I found that had this trick and it worked. Again THANK YOU!!!
Did the other lights stay on all those 10h? Or they stood off?! I am trying to recharge my wheelchair right now and I don't have the technical booklet. :(

I have a power wheelchair that has been sitting outside for a very long time. I really need to use it and I took it to the store and they said the battery is completely dead and I would need to buy new batteries for $700. I am on SSI and cannot afford anything. I just sent my husband this video and I really hope that it works it will truly be saving my life. Thank you.
Couldn't see a thing what u were doing, it was exactly what I needed to know as well, I'll watch it a few more times to see if I can fathom it, a bit of light under the scooter would maybe help a great deal cheers,
The batteries had become sulfated and the low voltage charger went and dissolved enough sulpher to allow the battery to accept a charge again. Myself I use a resistor of maybe 5 ohms 25W together with by 12V adjustable 40A power supply. I raise the current to about 100mA then once it starts to rise on its own, I will raise the current to about 2A until the battery reaches maybe 8V. This can take several hours. I do have a suitable multimeter for doing this. Your trick is great for getting the charger to start but it may not be enough for the batteries to hold much of a charge. If you leave the 12V charge on for several hours, you are more likely to do a better job desulphating the batteries and getting a longer life from them. Though this does not work every time. In the last couple years I saved 2 car catteries this way. By the way I use a Quantum Q6 Edge wheelchair I bought second hand about 4 years ago. I am now having to recharge it with the 24V charge about every 4 days and I suspect the batteries are reaching their natural end of life. The dealer I bought it from had about 20 powered wheelchairs i n his back room and all of them were plugged in, so there was no issue from the batteries going bad from lack of use. The batteries in it are about 10 years old now and it is getting to be time. I am a retired electronics engineer and in the 1980s, for a couple years I designed industrial battery chargers.
THANK YOU. We haven’t tried this yet but after spending $500 for two batteries on my sons permobile powerchair he got the quantom and now it won’t charge at all! I’m sure both are in this state actually! New batteries, but not charging. Now I have an idea of avoiding calling out the tech who will suggest replacing batteries agaaaain.
thank you for this hack, this will probably save thousands (maybe millions) of folks from buying new batteries !- like what most repairers usually would recommend.
What are other 12 volt chargers that may also work? I have an Invacare TDX SP that has dead batteries and would like to not have to take them out - because I can not figure out how - got the rear shroud off but then it does not look like the instructions so the next step I am at a loss for. Thank you.
The only difference I made was to connect the 12v charger straight to the scooter battery for a few seconds then the scooter charger indicated it was doing its job. 👍
i try two different 12v but both fried , the 24v charger started to charge but after the 12v fried it will not charge again. one 12v has 5w power with dc300mA max and the other is 16w with 1A

Just remember that if you have left any sort of lead-acid battery in a severely discharged state for any long period of time, it will have been permanently damaged, even you manage to get a charge in it. Sometimes one can just brute-force a charge into them using a "dumb" battery charger. I have a good modern multistage "smart" charger that won't even attempt to charge a car battery that has a low voltage. If I put the battery on the old dumb charger for a good amount of time, I can often then charge it properly with the smart charger. My 24V chair charger also has a limited amount of "smarts" builtin and performs a multistage charge which involves properly conditioning the batteries, then a charge, then a trickle to keep it fully charged until use.
I wonder anyone can help me? We have a pronto M91. (2 brand new batteries) It still not going? It solid red and flashing green? There is a 3 button plug where the joy stick controller? Do we need one those charger thing to charge it this way? A mean, is new batteries. There also another plug behind the wheelchair we charged it this way as always. What is the 3 prompt plugin where the joy stick is for? Does it need it for the wheelchair. Please help to understand... Thanks
How long do you need to leave the 12V charger wires in? Are they just needed to trick the 24V charger or do you leave them in until its completely charged? Thanks.
I have a sedeo pro Q300 m mini wheelchair and I want to do a trick it into charging again because I know it's not charging because only the orange light comes on,can you tell me where are the location of the wires I'm supposed to connect it to with my 12volt charger? It's been almost a month since I used it and I really need it here in California to get around...please help me get the right wire location to do this
Interesting, I'm having same problem, I know the batteries are good, it's just been setting a couple months. I have an old charger with a damaged plug in, could I use it the same way?
I found it easier for me to put jumper cables from my car battery to each of the two 12v batteries for about 15 minutes each. Then plugged in the charger and away she went.
I couldn’t tell which wire connection was used to insert the stripped 12v charger wire. Is it the cable to connect the joystick to the motor fuse box cause my electric chair has 5 different inputs?
Why not just hook up a car charger to the batteries with either 2amp or 10amp trickle charge? That's actually what I've been doing for the past few days. Started out with only 1V and now I've got the 1st battery up to 12V after charging it for a couple of days on the 2amp trickle charge setting. How long are they supposed to last once they've been fully charged? How many hours and minutes or miles could I drive on two fully charged batteries?
Luigi Provencher I don't know how long it will drive it depends on how bad the batteries are. As far as trickle charger and car charger both of mine got low voltage detection so it did not work for me.
My charger shows it's working but it is not charging the batteries. My charger like what you have for your child's little car has a alligator clips on it. The connectors you put your wires in is different than mine. Would it work if I just put the alligator clips on one battery positive to positive negative to negative? I really hope I don't have to end up buying new batteries. Any ideas?
Ken Leipold it should work the idea is to connect extra power supply so that the charger would not stop for low voltage make sure you don't go over 12v on extra power
If I have a reg 12v car battery charger could I just set it at a 2am 12v setting and hook it up to one of the batteries long enough to trick the charger? Sorry if it's a dumb question but I just want to be sure because I don't know much about electrical systems

Hi, I have a power scooter chair and it has been in storage for 4 years. I tried to charge the batteries for 24 hours and the power light on the chair would not even illuminate. The battery setup is very similar to the power chair in your video. I do not have a 12 volt charger transformer, what other everyday items may have a 12 volt charge? Will purchasing a 12 volt charger from Home Depot work? Or would getting a jump start from my car work?
I think I’m having a similar problem. The wheelchair has been sitting for four years used to work and that same charger when plugged in just flashes green wheelchair won’t turn on but I thought it was 24 V is yours the same?
@@letitride54 Sounds like the manufacture is using the house wiring colour convention, where white is ground= negative. In any case just look at the battery connections, + & - is marked on all batteries.

kitty p if the charger started blinking red try to disconnect it and unplug it make sure when you connect extra 12v you go plus to plus minus to minus and make sure that it is DC not AC you need 12 v DC
The problem now is that even after reading fully charged it will not last more than a minute or two. EVen if the chair just sits there the reading keeps dropping to where it's discharged.
So are you saying if I have a small 12 V charger I can hook it on to the positive or negative of the same battery and then hook the other battery charger to the positive negative turn both on it’ll start to charge and then take the one off? Is that the same thing as getting down below and picking it up there .
@@ThreePhaseHigh It helps to have a multimeter to test voltage. Measure dead voltage, write it on the battery, with meter still on battery, connect external charger, measure new voltage and write it also on battery. Leave charger on for 4 hours, then measure voltage with charger and without charger, write these New voltages on battery. Both New voltages measured should have increased, the goal is to SLOWLY charge to above 11 volts, then connect to the chair charger or regular car battery charger to do the top off charge. When 12 volt batteries go below 11 volts they start to die, the longer this goes on, the lower the battery voltage gets and the more the damage. These batteries function on short discharge cycles and have enough discharge capacity but then are immediately recharge to full capacity once the engine runs to drive the alternator. If these scooters are used and not immediately put back on charge to bring the voltage back up above 11 volts, the battery life will be compromised, cumulatively every time not charged after use! The cosmic law of lead acid batteries!
What does it mean if when I put charger on batteries and I go check on them couple hours later and they feel hot! Also they only last like 30 min then the chair dies? Do I need new batteries or is it charger?
I have a wheel chair battery charger. When I opened up the three prong plug, there is 2 wires but . Why does it have 3 prongs? The black wire goes to 2 prongs. White has 1 prong. My battery has 23 or 24 volts. But it won’t charge. I know charger works, but I don’t what the problem is. I took . Why three prong not two.
I have let my chair sit idle for some time and now when I charge it it does not charge, my question is am I supposed to have the power on off while charging please reply thanks bud!!
Frank Reyna Hi if you have a voltmeter you can check the voltage on the batteries if its less than 10V the wheelchair charger will not change it and you have to connect a different 12v supply to the batteries in addition to the charger to trick the charger because most of them got low voltage protection just to make sure nobody trying to connect 6V batteries to 12V charger
Not having seen these batteries,l was wondering whether or not you could use and ordinary car battery charger to start ,then switch to scooter charger ????
I'm an older woman nipping 70 in the ass . Excuse my expression! but I have to be sending for batteries and pay $200 and then when they get here they don't work. I don't even bother sending them back. They dispute it. I just wait for the vendor that I bought the wheelchair from to come and put them in himself. I subscribed and I thank you so much God bless you looking forward to watching the other videos!
What instruments do I need for my power wheelchair to be alive again cause the battery is not dead the only thing that is dead is the motor of the chair
Check all connections and coat with lots of Vaseline, including battery connections! If corroded shine up the metal, use whatever you can, knife, file, sandpaper.
I have been selling and servicing wheelchairs for 33 years and am the owner of Colorado Wheelchair LLC. Your idea is cleaver, but in the end it doesn't solve the main problem. Once these types (Gel or AGM) of batteries drop below 9.25 volts (your batteries had to be at least this low or lower to cause the charger not to recognize them) the cells of the batteries are damaged. The lower the voltage and the longer time the worse the cell damage. So, although they will take a charge they wont hold it very long (maybe 1 mile of usage). So, in the end if you want your wheelchair to hold a reasonable charge you'll still need new batteries. Note: DO NOT BUY WHEELCHAIR BATTERIES ON THE INTERNET!!!!!!! They are usually seconds that have been siting on a shelf for years and crappy brands sold by internet venders that will not refund your money.
I agree but in my case I used the wheelchair to make a remote control lawn mower so I don’t need it to hold for a very long time and for instance if someone wants to sell their old wheelchair and they need just to show that the wheelchair is working this is a way out but if you are looking to use a wheelchair the best thing is to buy a new batteries

@@dono624 Carry an extension cord and plug it into a wall socket, if going for appointment, coffee, etc. They ALL should have a little voltage display, to alert user to lower battery voltage. I would create/ connect a plug so you can give the 12+ boost to activate charging.
common problem with so called 'smart' chargers. If they can't detect a battery (completely dead), they don't try and charge it. Using a dumb charger (constant or timed) allows you to partially charge the battery so that the smart charger can then properly work.
Wouldn't a car charger connected to these batteries work just fine to 'wake up' the dead batteries, at least for a short time, or long enough to get the OEM charger to 'see' and charge the batteries?
@@tolikgord The newer ones have the same smart circuit which measures the voltage of the battery, if it is below a set voltage it won't activate the charger, you have to SLOW charge the battery at ~ 2 Amps to bring the voltage back up above the threshold value.

kitty p if the charger started blinking red try to disconnect it and unplug it make sure when you connect extra 12v you go plus to plus minus to minus and make sure that it is DC not AC you need 12 v DC
After the 12v charger is switched on do I plug the 24v charger in as well? FOR 10 MINUTES?
Yes and after the batteries start charging you can disconnect 12v
In
So are you saying put two battery chargers on one battery and then remove one and it’ll start to charge
Do you guys know if these battery packs are inside a bunch of individual 18650 batteries?
No they are not. They are 12V lead acid batteries with individual plates in them, usually as 6 lots of 2V.
Can I use a regular car battery starter
The problem now is that even after reading fully charged it will not last more than a minute or two. EVen if the chair just sits there the reading keeps dropping to where it's discharged.
gamac1 check fluid level in the battery maybe it’s very low
i have a 24v Lithium Ion battery. I also have a AC13V output charger. Will it work? What charger do i need?
DO NOT USE AN AC charger, NO, NO, NO! DC YES!
Ok but how long do leave the 12V Charger connected?
Let me answer my own question,10min then remove.got it.
If you mesure the dc pins with a multimeter without connection to the chair wath voltage provides? thanks
Sorry but I don’t have it anymore.
@@tolikgord Thanks anyway
I got little over a volt. Three prong. I tested on 2 chargers.
Could you use a 12 volt car charger and jumper wires?
To charge each individual 12V battery? Yes. They are connected in series to make 24V.
Can anyone help. I have corpus 3G where do I put wires? I dont see where on it.
You have to find batteries and put it on the terminals
Thank you soo much, it worked but remember to keep the wheels locked or else it wont work 😂
How long it takes to charge
I lost it at “a new remote control lawnmower.” 🤣🤣🤣
Most likely batteries
@@tolikgord Batteries are cooked!
Works!! question: can this setup be permanent? Will it ruin the power supply or the charger
That’s what I wanna know

Thank you ! it worked it really worked !
The third wire is the ‘inhibit’, enabling the system to
prevent the wheelchair from moving when the battery is being charged.
@@marcoteves685 thankyou
Thank you!!!
I have let my chair sit idle for some time and now when I charge it it does not charge, my question is am I supposed to have the power on off while charging please reply thanks bud!!
Oh forgot to mention when the chair is on I just have a red light flashing does that mean it's completely drained?
Frank Reyna Hi if you have a voltmeter you can check the voltage on the batteries if its less than 10V the wheelchair charger will not change it and you have to connect a different 12v supply to the batteries in addition to the charger to trick the charger because most of them got low voltage protection just to make sure nobody trying to connect 6V batteries to 12V charger
Anatolii Gordiienko thank you so much for your reply to my comment I truly appreciate it.
Not having seen these batteries,l was wondering whether or not you could use
and ordinary car battery charger to start ,then switch to scooter charger ????
syd bell depending on car charger but probably not because most of them got voltage detection and if its too low it won't change
I have a charger which does 6 & 12 volt so would start it on 6v. ??
syd bell it needs to be around 10v for the charger to start unless your charger don't have voltage detection but it probably does

Amazing Idea I am going to try it
What instruments do I need for my power wheelchair to be alive again cause the battery is not dead the only thing that is dead is the motor of the chair
Check all connections and coat with lots of Vaseline, including battery connections! If corroded shine up the metal, use whatever you can, knife, file, sandpaper.
Just curious is that a Q6 Edge Wheelchair? and how much did you pay for it?
thanks.
Yes it is and I payed 150$ for it at thrift store
does it recharge to 100% or just a low level such as to work for only 20 minutes?
Measure the full charge voltage, should be between 12.6 volts to 12.95 volts, if over 13 volts battery is compromised.

StEpH ;ฯ} did you get her chair powered up?
So I was just given an Invacare TDX SP for my Wife since her cancer has moved to her spine and she can no longer walk. And it is doing the same thing, and you are telling me that if these batteries get drained enough they stop working altogether? How is that an acceptable design?
@@dono624 Carry an extension cord and plug it into a wall socket, if going for appointment, coffee, etc. They ALL should have a little voltage display, to alert user to lower battery voltage. I would create/ connect a plug so you can give the 12+ boost to activate charging.
common problem with so called 'smart' chargers. If they can't detect a battery (completely dead), they don't try and charge it. Using a dumb charger (constant or timed) allows you to partially charge the battery so that the smart charger can then properly work.
I think the idea is so that you don't charge a battery that's damaged and then is a potential fire hazard.
I took great plans from Avasva . It help me a lot with my own solars.
Great video
Wouldn't a car charger connected to these batteries work just fine to 'wake up' the dead batteries, at least for a short time, or long enough to get the OEM charger to 'see' and charge the batteries?
Depends how old is your car charger. The newer ones won't change the battery if it has low voltage
@@tolikgord The newer ones have the same smart circuit which measures the voltage of the battery, if it is below a set voltage it won't activate the charger, you have to SLOW charge the battery at ~ 2 Amps to bring the voltage back up above the threshold value.
can a 18 volt charger work like the one you have?
No
@@tolikgord Yes it can, but don't leave it connected long.
I'm new to this so bare with my questions....
Hey your a genius !! I am having the same problem with my moms motorized wheel chair battery went completely dead. Your connecting wires to a plastic clip in pro e mine don't have that just the control cord adapter that clips together so where do I put the wires on mine I have a jazzy select please help my mom needs it thanks ahead of time
yolanda garza you can connect it directly to the battery terminals
Yolanda Sirri I
They are called Anderson connectors.
WOULD of been helpful if ytou showed how you get at those batteries on that wheel chair
Dave Berswick do you want him to fix it for you too
Find your manual, or Google it!
Thanking you
where are you finding these wheelchairs?
At the thrift store or craigs list
got mine at the scrap yard. was there scraping an old washer seen it bought from them at scrap price. seen this video. really hope this works so i can fix mine up and not buy new batteries. Dad needs one.
Do i need to have my car running
great video. thanks for recording it
Why not use charger clips??
Clever work
must be thick it doesn,t work, it is near impossible to connect those wires to the connector shown, add another charger to one battery is just the same and it still doesn,t work, and my batteries are not dud just ran low, charger will not charge

not what I was looking for... eh probably some seniors power chair... its called a power chair or motorized wheelchair lol... huh maybe not a seniors power chair I see they got elevating leg rests on that thing.
O.K. Anatolii l follow that.
But have hadreally dead car batteries before, and it charged those..
Who knows ??

I used charger out of a kids riding car charger from Home Depot probably will not work because all the chargers now comes with a safety where if the battery don't have enough voltage it will not charge it you can try to find any transformer 12v dc maybe a exercise bike if not jumping it from car should work but I personally did not try that I would check a thrift store some time they have a transformers cheap
what going on when the charger just shows a solid orange light. no blinking
can I try a wheelchair with a car battery I want to know if you wheelchair is working
