My wife and I have no children. Yet, I feel overwhelming saddness to the point of tears, when I hear John express real true deep personal love for Sean.....the son I know he wanted to correct the mistakes he made with Julian. He wasn't going to allow his 2nd born to grow to manhood with an absent father. One word......heartbraking
@@pvank1799 I knew it wasn't. I also never cared. People say things in songs all the time that someone else said before. I don't think it's a big deal. I think when someone uses something someone else said in their own art it's just that - their art. I also don't know why more than one or two people are making kind of a deal about it. I mean, Bee Gees wrote a song called 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' and I don't think they attributed that to the (very famous) person who said it first, and I sure never saw anyone make a big deal out of it, or even mention it actually. I just don't get this with this particular line of this song.
John always gave us Truth. Sad, happy, silly, yearning, bitter, lonely, cynical...he always told the truth. I can remember exactly the moment I heard he died. Broke my heart.
Always, and it's why so many talk so much smack on him, too. The other Beatles did some of the same flawed things and made some of the same kinds of mistakes, but they tended to be very private. John was an open book.

Yep. In fact most of the best solo songs from Harrison, Lennon and McCartney were originally worked on by the band in the year before they broke up. Which makes you wonder what an incredible next album they might have made. Considering that Harrison and Starr worked on a lot of the songs when Lennon did them solo, as well as McCartney at least a few times, we ALMOST Know what they would have sounded like if they'd been done with the full band, but - it's just hard to know what the finished, full-band versions would have been like.

Man, these vids are kinda amazing to watch. It took me quite a few years to travel through this Beatles /John Lennon thing and yeah, it's quite a profound journey in lots of ways. For me it started in 1981, when my teenage years started - shortly after he died - and I didn't really get to the end for another 10 years. You're doing it in under a year... honestly, as silly as I might sound here... go easy... I think you've already realised, they weren't messing about and they could touch people like very few artists in their genre ever managed to do. The artwork of the 3 combined Anthology albums is a painting called 'Trojan Horse' - it's a very appropriate title. I wouldn't change any of it for the world but lots of people will agree that The Beatles journey can sometimes be more that just loving a really, really good band.
Thanks man you are too kind. I’m trying to take my time with it. But I also want to listen to it all at once lol! It’s so hard. I’ve definitely been forever impacted by this great man and of course the Beatles too. They have been such a fruitful and strange trip lol I love them so much now. Double Fantasy is a great album Yoko has several songs to check out, Kiss Kiss, Every Man Has A Woman To Love Him, and Walking On Thin Ice (the song they were working on the night he was murdered)

Beautiful Boy is a heart shredder. Jeez man. I used to always post this on my Son's Facebook for his birthday. Drove him nuts for a few years but he eventually, at about age 20, started to like it. Edit .. I can't remember. Have you done Working Class Hero? That's John at his absolute pissed off best. Talk about venom. He's got some for everyone there, even the victims of what he's describing.
Great reaction as always.. Gimme some truth is quite a Dylanesque composition... I feel for good Americans nowadays... so many really bad things going on...
Why thank you Rita I appreciate that! There really is. Either you get pulled in one way or another. It’s a rough time for us right now. So much polarization
Nice reaction. With you all the way. Jim Keltner backed a lot of tracks for a lot of people, including George Harrison’s supergroup Traveling Wilburys. ✌️
There's a reason Liverpool was at the center. It was a seaport and sailors brought back lots of 45s from America with music that wasn't broadcast on the BBC. Liverpool was also a poor town after the WAR. Heck all England was. As George Harrison said, "we'd listen to whatever record was around. You couldn't afford much. Heck we couldn't afford a cup of sugar let alone a rock n roll record.
I feel that the song "Gimme Some Truth" hits the nail on the head when it comes to describing the two-faced, cliquey, sycophantic dynamics in most of the social and walking groups I am currently or have been part of. It appears to me that specific organizers, co-organizers, walk leaders, and members of these groups solely exhibit a focus on their inner circle, disregarding individuals in need of additional support. It's so disheartening to see unfair favouritism play out, especially for those who could benefit from more inclusivity and real friends to hang out with.
Saudoso Alan White, daí seria o futuro baterista do Yes💕 Sean pelo que ouço atualmente sobre política, não puxou a ideologia do pai, uma pena. Abraço a todos!
I want to turn you on to a relatively new act that is sort of a secret phenomena. It's a hard rocking all-girl band from Japan called Band-Maid. They are simply amazing with a hard pounding drummer. You will become a fan. Start with "Thrill" and look for others like "Domination", "From Now On", and "Hate".
Its a beautiful song but I always feel for Julian who was dropped like a hot potato (along with Cynthia) when he took up with Yoko. He always said that Paul was more of a Father to him at that time than John. I know they made up years later but it must have been a hard time for that little boy to live through.
Paul didn't even remember he contributed to it (one 3-word line). 'I was meeting with Paul [McCartney] and I said to him, “You know that John Lennon song ‘Gimme Some Truth’?”. He says, “Uh, the one on the Imagine album? Yeah, I know that one”. “Did you know that you actually co-wrote that with John?” He says, “What are you talking about?” I showed him this footage from the Get Back sessions where Paul and John are working on ‘Gimme Some Truth’. Paul’s come up with that ‘money for rope’ thing which John loves. Paul looked at me and said, ‘I have no memory of that. I had no idea I was involved with that song’. Then he says, “It’s a great song. I’ve always loved that song so if I get some credit for it, great”.' - Peter Jackson
@@lauraallen55 I have an 18 disc bootleg of the Get Back sessions in which Paul is throwing out lyric ideas to John. Much more than a three word snippet. It was just another day at the office for Paul and probably quickly forgotten. Paul sings a line "no short haired yellow belly son of Gary Cooper..."
@@robertsaul234 That was a quote made directly by Peter Jackson and by Paul. Argue with them maybe? Maybe he was throwing out ideas, but the three-word snippet is what got used, by John, for his song. :)

@@genegarrett3372 I'm Losing You is my favorite post-Beatles song of John's. It doesn't really fit the happy theme of Double Fantasy, being an older song from his darker period, and I wonder if that's why it doesn't get a ton of notice.
Back after the thunder just let up and the need to restart my computer and reopen everything, Now waiting for some JL and taking three minutes to listen to the first part of Beethoven's Allegretto in the seventh symphony. How can a deaf person write such magic? Anyway, on to Lennon.
Yes, This was a favorite song of John's for McCartney. It's a beautiful melody and lullaby. The only criticism is John's failure to give credit in the liner notes to his use of the quote "life is what happens to you while your busy making other plans" to its author Allen Saunders' 1957 quote. And Gimme Some Truth, wow you don't want to make John angry as Nixon did (at Elvis' request) trying to have him kicked out of the country.
John probably didn't know where the saying came from, or didn't remember. I don't always remember those things either. The thing is that you and I have the luxury to go look these things up, and John didn't. What could he do? Not use it because someone else said it first, or use it and put in the liner notes that he read that or heard it somewhere and doesn't remember? Either scenario would be bad lol!
@@lauraallen55 Hey, get off me lady. I never said he shouldn't have used it. I just pointed out where it came from. Besides it not on him anyway. There are people at the record company whose sole job is to check lyrics for copyright issues.

Even this video is a couple months old now, I’ve come even further ! Lol
Double Fantasy is a great album
Yoko has several songs to check out, Kiss Kiss, Every Man Has A Woman To Love Him, and Walking On Thin Ice (the song they were working on the night he was murdered)
'Lucy...' was written for Julian just as 'Hey Jude' was.
'Dig A Pony' - rooftop.
Billy Idol's old band Gen X did a credible version of '...Truth'.
😊🤙🏼🎶🔥🧡🍁💚✨️🕊
The two sides of John.
But not at the same time
You nailed it.
Espero puedas traducir: ...
Klaus Voorman is a friend from the Hamburg period with The Silver Beatles . I bielive he's the author of the "Revolver "LP artwork. 😉
Didn't he design different versions of it too?
Beautiful Boy is a heart shredder. Jeez man. I used to always post this on my Son's Facebook for his birthday. Drove him nuts for a few years but he eventually, at about age 20, started to like it.
Edit .. I can't remember. Have you done Working Class Hero? That's John at his absolute pissed off best. Talk about venom. He's got some for everyone there, even the victims of what he's describing.
Yes, he's done that one. I requested that, and these two. :)

Everybody has a Jeykll and Hyde side.
They sure do, and some of them coming out with their Mr. Hyde side in the comments lol!
@@lauraallen55 😆
@@chitownlee Gotta laugh, but really? Sometimes, I don't understand people lol!
Makes me think of Billy Joel's song The Stranger
@@alrivers2297 Gimme Some Truth does? Maybe Billy Joel was inspired by John's song?
Nice reaction. With you all the way.
Jim Keltner backed a lot of tracks for a lot of people, including George Harrison’s supergroup Traveling Wilburys.
✌️
Yeah, "overthinking, overanalyzing, separates the body from the mind" - Tool (I suspect you know this song already)
You see an unfinished quick version of Gimme Some Truth in Peter Jackson's Get Back.
GImme Some Truth was banned on the radio during the Nixon era.
🌸 I really started to worry about what was on your mind during beautiful boy ....
He was a good Dad to Sean. Maybe trying to make up for his shortcomings with Julian.😢
Saudoso Alan White, daí seria o futuro baterista do Yes💕
Sean pelo que ouço atualmente sobre política, não puxou a ideologia do pai, uma pena.
Abraço a todos!
😪
John's home studio take on "Gimme Some Truth" is also very good:

It is. I came really close to requesting that one.
Sean was 5 when he recorded Beautiful Boy. He was shot a couple of months later. Horrible
Gimme Some Truth could have had been credited as a Lennon/McCartney composition.
“Did you know that you actually co-wrote that with John?” He says, “What are you talking about?”
I showed him this footage from the Get Back sessions where Paul and John are working on ‘Gimme Some Truth’.
@@lauraallen55 He used the other line as well. John replaced "Gary Cooper" with "son of tricky dickie."
@@robertsaul234 Okay.... and? It's John's song, and always will be. It was personal to him. It didn't get done on the Beatles' album, so it's not their song.
For those not born then tricky Dick references President Richard M. Nixon
What about reacting to Sunday Bloody Sunday and I’m loosing You. Thanks!
Do you mean How Do You Sleep by John? He's done it!
@@lauraallen55 thanks!
@@lauraallen55 I'm losing you is one of his best. such emotion.
@@genegarrett3372 It is!
@@genegarrett3372 Hey mister get over yourself, maybe?
I wasn't 'getting on you' ffs!
You did not just 'point out where it came from'. You said it was a criticism of John and it was a failure on his part. No revisionist history gonna fly here.
What's your damage anyway, dude? I didn't come at you and was civil to you. Again, get over yourself, maybe. Don't talk to me anymore, either. Go make someone else's day a pain in the ass why don't you.
Some saying in Reader's digest wasn't a 'copyright issue' either lmao.
@@genegarrett3372I think she was just giving you some information, not attacking you, bro
I can have no respect at all for Lennon as a father. He was a terrible father to his first son.
