👉 It is one of the west flowing rivers in the region North of Mumbai and South of the Tapi River .
👉 It originates in the Trimbakeshwar Hills of Nasik district of Maharashtra .
👉 It receives most of the rainfall from the south west monsoon during June to October .
👉 Almost 98 % of the annual rainfall of the basin is received during this period .
Tributaries :
👉 The main tributaries are Pinjal , Ganjai , Surya , Daharji and Tansa .
👉 The catchment area of Vaitarna basin completely lies in Thane and Nasik districts of Maharashtra .
👉 It drains an area of 2019 sq km before it falls in Gulf of Khambhat .

The Vaitarna river is a river in nashik and palghar district of Maharashtra. The Tansa is its left bank tributary and the pinjal, dehraja, and Surya are it's right Bank tributaries. Upper stretches of the Vaitarna are clean but in lower stretches it is polluted due to untreated industrial and civic waste. The Vaitarna is one of the most polluted rivers in india.
It originates in sahyadri mountain ranges near trimbakeshwar. The Vaitarna is just 2 in away from India's second longest river, the godavari. Vaitarna has a confluence with the tanasa just before it enters the Arabian sea. Jhow and wadhiv islands lie in its estuary.
