I loved will smith at the genie. He wasn't Robbin Williams and he wasn't trying to be. He brought his own unique humor and style to the character which I think pays so much respect to what Robin William would want.

he originally didnt want to accept the part due to the fact he believed no one could live up to Robin Williams. But after watching the movie again, Will realized he could put his own spin on the genie, so he didnt insult Robin's memory by trying to copy Robin's version of the Genie.

And having been the scapegoat for so much of it (as "the weird kid"), I focused mostly on the fact that I wasn't being targeted. All of us were. String me up and filet me like a salmon if you must for this opinion but the chemistry between Aladdin and the Genie in this movie is actually brilliant, they have the whole "someone who he acts like a normal awkward human (Aladdin) and someone who reacts like they've done all this shit a million times (the Genie)" dynamic about them LOVE IT :-D

Personally I’m a fan of the live action remakes (except dumbo and the lion king, was never into the originals though), and I LOVED Aladdin, I thought it was just a really good time, entertaining and enjoyable with amazing scenery and a gorgeous soundtrack, plus I thought Aladdin was adorable and the genie was just an icon.
Yeah, big fan.
But then again I have trashy taste so don’t come for me. I’ll never complain about a film that kept me entertained, even if it’s critically flawed.

Will Smith works so well as the Genie. Completely different style to Robin Williams, but they gave him the same beats to hit and he ran with it to the moon!
As someone who grew up watching the older Aladdin movie, I don’t get how everyone else my age thinks the older one is better!
That's something I don't like about movie remakes. They always get so much backlash just because they aren't like the original, and most often, they don't even deserve it. The Lion King (2019) got a lot of hate for it looking like a quote-unquote "nature documentary." It's supposed to look realistic, that's the point! And while I get the older version of Aladdin has its own sentimental value to it, this version has a fresh new look, with new visuals and all.

The new Aladdin movie felt rushed and it didn't flow properly with the jokes. Genie was the only thing I liked. It doesn't have to be like the old one it just has to be better or at least good and it wasn't. I didn't think it was good. I didn't like the new Dumbo and I didn't like the new Lion King. I was hoping the new Lion King would have something new to it but it was like watching the cartoon version. The only live action that I loved is beauty and the beast. It was so good and so beautiful. I love that beast got his own song. Everything in Aladdin just seemed awkward aside from Will Smith.
It wasn’t. The old one was boring, and as much as I LOVE Robin Williams the whole movie was just him doing impressions. It got really old really fast.

Never seen this movie before, but it’s already giving off the icky vibes that the comedy in modern live-action Disney remakes have; mugging to the camera and acting awkward, completely ruining the snappy, quick and clean jokes of the classics. Maybe I’m being harsh, but that’s just my opinion. However, the Genie is actually pretty funny with his own unique distinction from the Robin Williams version. So he makes it worth it!
Sad truth is, that you're kinda right. Me and my friend agreed that apart from one unique song (which someone does a better cover of) and the Genie's character (I would also say storyline but they rushed it in the end), the rest was just very cringy

I loved this movie so much, people are stingy and always want what they want but as times change so does taste and TV. This captures the more recent ideas and humor which makes it so lovable in its own way while still capturing the beauty of the original.

Ironically, the Genie was the best part of the remake. He didn't have the same manic, million miles an hour energy Robin Williams brought to the original, but there were always going to be massive shoes to fill regardless

I literally read that as Los Angeles and was so confused. 😂 Beauty and the beast was beautiful, but I still love the classic equally as much and I prefer the classic Aladdin to the new one.
