In this video, I'll talk about and show you the building process of the Fliper RGB. The Fliper RGB is a DIY MIDI controller, made with an Arduino Pro Micro, that uses translucent 24mm arcade buttons that lit up when you play it!
This controller was inspired by the MIDI fighter, from DJ Tech Tools, but with my own addons!
For building an arcade RGB MIDI controller I had to find some creative ways of building it. I used led strips for the lights; had to design a custom frame so the light of one arcade button doesn't spill to the other; and came up with my own banks system solution!
Also, I used a multiplexer to connect the 16 buttons!
Anyways, I think that's a pretty successful project and I can't wait to see yours!

Really neat project you've made there. I've been playing around with the STM32 "bluepill" as a midi controller as it also has native USB. It works well and is quite a bit more powerful than the pro mini.
Looks great! Can't wait to see the custom PCB as well!
Just waiting for the manufacturer now!
factory finish! beautiful job
Excellent! Thank you !
Show! Sensacional!
simply amazing!
Nice videos, discovered your channel recently.
The way to select the backs remembered me the Pocket Operators from Teenage Engineer.
Good job.
Thanks! I never had one but they are awesome!
cool stuff!!
you're great brother
Nice music. I love Drum & Bass!
hehe me too!
Valeu, meu velho!!
Love your video ~
Thanks!!
brabo demais!!
aee!
beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Dam that’s 🔥
Wow!!! Bueno
Amei, estou fazendo o meu RGB tamb.
which software are you use ?
so you my inspiration dude 👍
great project!! the best DIY controller I've seen
I have been following your work since the flipper and this looks so nice
is it possible to share the files? I tried the link but never got an email
regards from Coahuila Mexico

@Nerd Musician fala Gustavo blz?
which MIDI program would you recommend for this project? Thank you
This is great I want one I just wonder is the lack of pressure sensitivity not a drawback over using MPC like drum pads?
that's true, if you want sensitivity you are stucked with the potentiometers which are not that good with expression
In your project you used the CD4067 Multiplexer. I'm a beginner, but from what I've read the multiplexer only allows you to send a single signal. In that case, does your midi controller only allow you to press one button at a time?
As teclas são macias ? Ele controla apps Ios/ Android ? E qual é o valor para comprar ?
this controller would definitely benefit from being translated to PCB. So many wires haha
Yes! The PCB is already in production! I built a modula 16 RGB button PCB, so you can build controllers like this, or... a 64. So, wait for me...
@@NerdMusician i would love more of an explanation on mounting the leds and programming it for led feedback! It's the one thing that my controllers would definitely benefit from.
@@music143250 I'll do that inside the course for sure...
What is the function to button's addressable leds for turn on and chance the color state led?
ola gustavo!! long time follower. me preguntaba si se puede usar esta template para usarlo en el estilo de un launchpad, no para finger drumming. muito obrigado!!!
Hi I'm planning to make on by myself. Since I'm a newbie, though do you have a diagram for the wires ?
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
6:51 about to close the gate to hell
Honestly, the best part of building any controller is closing that rat's nest!
Hi, I'm taking your course asap.
I have a question, will the coding lessons you give make me able to build easily also standalone synths?
Thank you
Hi Atman, only MIDI controllers, not synths!
What is the max buttons you can installing with this project ?
Really cool project. Where can I purchase the body or frame from
You could order one from Ponoko or Sculpeto. Files in the description.
what is this case made of? it’s very cool?
Great Job! Abs
Note ons / note offs
❤❤❤
Great Job 👌 how Did you build up the housing. 3d print or laser cut... Thx
he says a local company laser cut it at 3:46
@@oedebiri thank you bro! 👊
Does this work with serato and where can i buy 1
what kind of wire did you use for the potentiometers
Did you make a custom PCB for this?
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Valeuu
Sim! Ensino tudo do zero!
Did you run the “solder wire” as a ground through all the arcade buttons ?😀
Olá Gustavo, sou aluno do curso. Você disponibiliza esse código comentado?
Hello Gustavo. I can't comment out the sketch for arduino nano correctly in any way. please help me. the details are all ready. it was necessary to program a sketch.
I want one
Hi ! I don't know if you'll read this coment, but you are using some of 'On/Off' buttons.
What kind of component would be used to ha multiple level of pressure (if you hit strong on light) in order to sent a different velocity ?
You can use piezoelectric sensors to control the note velocity based on the hit.
It's very cheap and available everywhere, just read its analog signals and map it from 0-255 to 0-127
I'd like to build this but the link to download files for this project is broken!
can midi controller be used in resolution?
Can a midi controller be considered an embedded system?
Hello Gutavo, thankyou for your great tuts!. I've tried to build Flipper RGB but the button seems not working. The pot is sending signal but the button not sending any signal :(
@@gersonnihtgonzalez3996 not yet bro :(
what kind of plastic is this made of, and what glue did you use there?
It's only acrylic, no glue! In my deisgn the different parts attach to each other and I use hex spacers to fix them.
Você pode adicionar 16 bancos?
Where can i download the files please?
Hi Gustavo! I've followed your instruction here and the schematics on the website, but my button is not working. I don't change the code too. Any idea about my problem? thankyou so much
Same here, it's been a year since your comment. Is ur problem solved bro?
@@yusufajiw2057 I use code from the other video :( I use 2 codes, neopixel and midi
@@achmadilyasramadhandh2561 is it works man? im so curious how to make it works
Salve!!!
No curso vc ensina a fazer estes controladores?
Quero focar em fazer minhas próprias controladoras MIDI.
Tambem sou do RS, Caxias do Sul.
Can I still build this with the Uno instead?
SUPRB ❤😄🎉
quero comprar, como faço?
nice shirt
🍄
anyone know if the CD74HC4067 works instead of the CD4067 because i can't find the same
or is it the same?
How to make the outer box?
I Teach this inside my course. musiconerd.com/making-music-with-arduino/
Can I buy it... Please
Soooo basically you made a Midi Fighter 3D......
download page is down
download link pls...
hi bro! I requested files more than 5 times, but nothing came to the mail
Same here
Same here bro
YOUR DIY code in your GitHub doesn't work when using it with atmega328 boards It gives out a not declared in scope please update it gustavo !
This happens sometimes depending your lib version. You need to find "//MIDI_CREATE_DEFAULT_INSTANCE();" and take the "//" off. This is you already installed the MIDI library. But this code specifically, for the launchpad is to be used with the Pro Micro.
@@NerdMusician thank you Gustavo, also I tried to tweak this code (only buttons and pots) on atmega 328(mega2560), MIDI.h with atmel 16u2 running custom firmware (moco Lufa) it didn’t seem to work. The usb communications led blinks when I use it press a button but there is no midi data coming thru in the PC
