I absolutley love this series. I have fished since i was 11 years old, and this program made me and my friends keep on fishing. When the weather was too bad to fish we just stayed in and watched this on VHS. I would like to thank Chris and Bob for making this, because I and my friends grew up on a council estate and it is because of them ( and John Wilson!) That a LOT of car stereo's did not get nicked! You did so much to keep us on the straight and narrow! (By the way i'm 32 now!) Keep fishin!
I wanted to say that these movies are legend for us fishermen are poetry and the love for fishing! Many thanks to 2 great actors that I admire very much and who helped to create these masterpieces!
I've not interest at all in fishing , but this is a wonderful programme without the high tempo Robson green type high fiving going on, this is as tranquil as the mist on the river. A pure joyful portrayal of Britain s rivers.10/10
@fredtheredmanu I absolutely agree. What I love most about these videos is how they capture what fishing is really about. Catching fish is just a small part of it, it's the connection with nature and admiring it's beauty and allowing yourself time to be still in this mad world. As you say... Beautiful imagery. I was born in 63 and spent most of my childhood fishing, so this series takes me right back to those Halcyon days. After 27yrs I've just started again and loving every minute !!
love this episode and the autumn one great photography and sublime music.true fishing at its best, hope they make up and do another series with hugh miles a few from now best fishing programme ever made
The truth is, they didn't make angling films like this before 1993 and it is very unlikely that anything like this will be made again. It perfectly captured the spirit of angling as, in Hugh Miles, they not only had an experienced and world renowned wildlife film maker, but he is also a keen angler who understands the true spirit of angling. Modern angling 'journalism' (I use the term losely), only seems interested in massive ugly carp, or pointless 300lb match hauls of F1 hybrids stuffed into keepnets.
@pikemancolley I'd forgotten how much fun it is to make your own floats too. I'm a self employed gardener and I recently found a peacock feather on the estate garden, which I took home and turned into 5 or 6 floats. The wire armour around armoured cable is galvanised and perfect for making float eyes. Cheers Gary
top class video....lives up to it's title....beautiful video production with great fishing action, going over to the Moy river ( West of Ireland) to do another fishing video this summer, my brother looks after a 2 mile stretch.
Donde encuentro los capítulos completos en UA-cam? yo tenía todos los capítulos en un VHS cuando los daban acá en Argentina en Discovery Chanel hace muchos años... gracias por tantos recuerdos
@fredtheredmanu I know what you mean I watch all the fishing programmes, but u can close your eyes watching and listening to sir bernard cribbins narrating and it gives me you lump in my throat.. I will never get tired of watching this series :)
I loved watching this TV program but what used to annoy me (and still does) is the fact that the two characters voices were dubbed over the video at a late stage in the production. I don't know why it annoys me, it just does!
@alanrtment porter Thanks for your reply, I just looked up Bob James, I can see that he was caught fishing illegally on the river Wye, oh and he was misusing conservation funds, I guess it is the latter that you are referring to.
definitely the best fishing series ever made
Nothing moved. I was lost in a quiet world of grey, 'n green, 'n gold.
Wonderful.
